The chocolate bar scene is made all the better when you know who Geoff Capes is. "Geoff Capes would have shite up his back if he ate that amount of chocolate" is hilarious being that Geoff is a giant who won the World's Strongest Man title twice back in the 80's.

For context regarding the ending of S5E2: The screen Boaby's tape gets broadcast on is located at the top of Buchanan Galleries. A building standing at the top of a hill at the top of the main street in the city centre of Glasgow. It is the single most populated street in the city at any given time, and you could see that screen from all the way down the entire length of the half-mile long street. It's basically Times Square.

Ah now. You mention blended. Ballantines. Once upon a time, the nearest place you could get it to Scotland was the cross channel ferry. I lived in sight of the distillery in Dumbarton. Now I have moved to France, you can buy it in Tescos. I still buy it though. Lovely drop.

As someone who served many a punter similar in age as to what these characters are meant to be, in a Clydeside Social Club…Johnnie Walker wasn’t amongst the most popular of the blended whisky’s, that would be Bells, Whyte and Mackay and Famous Grouse…at that point in the early to mid nineties. I know it was always claimed when I was young that most Johnnie Walker blends were made purely for the export market and so weren’t actually available in Scotland…this was pre internet (for common usage anyway) so it might be wrong but I only ever really remember seeing the red and black (I think) labels back then. I personally don’t drink a lot, whisky even less and blended rarely but I tried Black Bottle for the first time last Burns Night and was rather pleasantly surprised…though a nice peaty malt would be my personal whisky preference.

If I’m honest mate after season seven it’s a bit forced anyway, still a good laugh.. But the cast did a live show at the hydro in Glasgow, ended up coming back for a few more seasons after that and it just wasn’t the same. The characters try to hard to be themselves. It’s weird, you’ll see if you watch it. 1-6 are golden and the “original” ones. Glad you like it so much
