In my humble opinion rally drivers are among (if not the) best drivers on the planet, able to drive on various surfaces betwenn dirt sand and tarmac, be they dry, wet, snowy. Day or night, they do it all!

There's a saying in rally: "Only the driver can win a stage, but the co-driver can loose it", referring to, if a co-driver reads out his pace notes wrong, the driver may crash the car. What probably happened with the Lancia and the Opel going in the water and that Ford hitting the stub in the inside of the turn, that stub should have been noted in the pace notes and clearly told to the driver by the co-pilot. The stage has been meticulously inspected pre race, for the pace notes, but then again, the driver might have cut the corner to tight, obstacles are a part of rallying ...Also, the stages of course vary in length, but it's not unusual that the top cars are within a few seconds of each other after a ten mile stage, so every split second counts.....why they push to and beyond the limits.

Minor explanations: there was a chocolate bar (the "Yorkie") that was advertised as being popular with truckers (I doubt it: it was rather small); and, the world's longest-running drama serial by quite some margin ("The Archers", running since the 1950s) is allegedly quite popular with truckers, hence "you can listen to the wireless". Very clever lyrics - On the road, you must be tough and ruthless; and the ru- mours that we're gay are truthless …

Who ever comes up with these shows that just have people bickering and being rude and no real point to it then call it reality needs to be …. Re born. And grow a new brain. These shows make people more stupid and ignorant. And act like it’s all normal.

I guess America must be the easiest country in the world to be intellectual. 🤔 I mean: It doesn't seem to take too much work to keep above average. But of cause, if you are too much of an intellectual Ron DeSantis might send you to prison.

Eric and Ernie always rehearsed every sketch for days even though it looks messy but apparently Andre turned up late with no time for rehearsing and this was done off the cuff He has brilliant comedy timing naturally and really makes the scene work That slap on the face was totally unexpected also to one of the best conductors at the time

The white trees are hawthorn and blackthorn in flower mate. The lack of trees in the area like others is due to a mix of deforestation from back in the industrial revolution days and farm clearing. Close to this area is the 'forest of bowland',no longer forested. "Forest" being called so from medieval days meaning 'hunting area 'for the royals and such like .we only have a few real forests left these days. Glad you like our countryside though👍🏻🇬🇧🙏🏻

many years ago, the legend, colin mcrae in (i think) australia rally, went over a series of 3 jumps. took the 3rd jump sideways to get a better angle at the upcomming bend. absolute nutter and amazing driving skill. so wish i was skilled enough to even attempt to drive rally.

That tree on the edge is when the co-driver gives the instruction, "Don't cut." This means: do not cut the corner and stay on the road rather than trying to take the corner early. There are a lot of those in a race and sometimes they are there for the driver's safety (believe it or not). There could be a nasty obstacle deeper into that corner that if he cut it, would put them in a river, head on into a standing tree, or sucked into a deep ditch.

Very true, and as a former co-driver I will say we took care to note and emphasize severe hazards in our pacenotes. Alan mentioned walking the stage but in reality (in the 80s and 90s) some stages were 20 miles or longer and the onus is on the driver and co-driver not the organizers to avoid hazards.

Something really needs to be said regarding US ignorance of other countries and their cultures and the delight we Britons take in poking fun at it. That something is that the majority of Britons are equally ignorant of other countries, their languages and cultures. Just ask the people of other European nations and you will see what I mean. There's a whole load of the pot calling the kettle black here. As for the national exceptionalism we accuse Americans of displaying, we Britons are past masters at that shit (the accent being on "past"). Such British exceptionalism is responsible for that utter shit show we call Brexit. One quality we could never claim is humility but when it comes to how we regard and speak of the US we show another quality, a negative one, we are an envious people. There is a lot of anger in the British sarcasm aimed at the US, anger that they are the most powerful nation on Earth and that the UK no longer is. That leads on to another quality that we lack, i.e. a sense of shame. We are incapable of feeling shame that we let our nationalistic hubris get the better of us.

7:55 The organizers do not have to clean up anything like logs by the road. Before the race, drivers and co-drivers go through the individual stages in a civilian car and write a schedule and notes where, if they do it correctly, they should have it written as "don't cut"

i used to go and watch rally GB in the 80's during the group B years in between stages the drivers would park in car parks near the next stage to avoid time penalties by arriving too early they would chat away with the fans until the co-driver screamed at them that they had to leave forrest stages with no access roads mean you get to a good vantage point by running down the road they are driving on between cars (warning whistles to let you know they are coming) even more exciting at night if a car went off the road the driver would call for the crowd to push them out of ditches or even right overturned cars talk about hands on

7:45 That should have been in their notes or someone else hit it earlier and pulled it out.. You don't move stuff for rallies, it's all a part of the test. There were a few Group B cars in there but really it's a mixed bag from top end modern factory cars to home built classics. 9:20 Pretty sure seats have to have the halo wing things to stop your head whipping round these days. There is a big mix of old and newer footage in this mix.
