If no one has mentioned it yet, Katharine Ryan’s stage persona is essentially “Drunk Hot Single Mom”, she’s an encyclopedia of Kardashians knowledge, her comedy is strongly feminist, and unlike you (and me!) she has ZERO shame in tasks like the pizza task. Hope that helps give a little context! Without knowing anything about her, I can see how so far it’s “this person makes bizarre and intense choices and I don’t know if I get it!”

Richard Osman has not only done nearly everything from TV producer, Gameshow Host, has a best selling detective series of novels which has been bought by Spielberg for the TV/Movie rights but his brother was in the 90's Britpop band 'Suede', you should check out their hit 'Animal Nitrate', a massive UK hit.

I think Katherine Ryan is that girl you don't think you would vibe with until you realise she's being tongue-in-cheek and you're both in on the joke. Her delivery as a kind of 'psycho-girlfriend' when she hands Greg his gift in a later episode is imo just perfection 😘👌🏼

always fun seeing someone watching taskmaster for the first time when you have had a shite day (awoken at 6 am by lawn being cut against deals, so have had to deal with lung issues the whole day cos sensitive lungs and pollen allergies having a fun mix)

As soon as I saw Joe Wilkinson, the potato-toss elimination popped into my head and I cracked up! But when you commented on them using potatoes again (and whether someone had ordered too many potatoes and they were going to be in a bunch of tasks in this series), I wondered if Alex had chosen this task because he thought Joe would comment, "Not effing potatoes again!" 😂😂😂

Re: the pizza task, my brother attempted this once, asked for an "XL base with no sauce", pronounced cheese wrong (they still understood), asked what meats they had and as they listed them he just said yes to both the pepperoni and bacon, before leaving the name "Bubbles". Quite a feat. Read somewhere that they could've just ordered it online as the card doesn't say they couldn't, but I think that would've taken the fun/anxiety out of it all!

fun fact: the official taskmaster podcast is hosted by a future contestant (dont listen to it, there are spoilers). they go over old episodes. IIRC the host claimed he would just eat the egg including he shell and argue that none of the others properly ate the egg lmao

Thanks for starting this program from the beginning and continuing in order! I started this last year when going thru the death of a friend and now that I've been going thru 122 days of a pinched nerve, I've not been able to work since it happened on 1/20/24 and I've now watched each series at least 4x each! I think KZbin suggested your page because of my frequent watching and I have been enjoying each episode with your viewpoint. I do find myself knowing more of the contestants because of Graham Norton and also 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. Thanks again for the entertainment and laughs. You have a new subscriber!

I think you would like Katherine’s appearances in other shows and/or her standup - it would definitely help with the context of her “character” and her approach to Taskmaster would probably make more sense! UK viewers would already have known her fairly well before she was in this show (even if they didn’t like her) as she had appeared on basically everything.

13:50 same... none of the competitors liked these public-facing tasks so they quickly stopped doing them. It's more an American prank show kinda thing. Although they DID try something in series 12 where the contestants had a bit more choice in how they approached it and I think that went well.

Aggghhh so sorry :( I know.. I hate having to edit these at all. About every other week I try to upload the entire episode reaction without any edits just to see if it will miraculously pass through, but no. I honestly haven't had this much trouble deciding what to leave in and what to cut since I did my Lord of the Rings reactions.. Thank you for the feedback though! It really does help me.

You're so right about the creativity that goes into designing the tasks. It's even more impressive when you consider the UK show is up to season 17 now, so Little Alex Horne has had to come up with around 800 different tasks so far (I didn't do the maths because I'm lazy, I got the 800 figure from a comment on a different reaction channel, so if 800 is way off, blame them, not me lol 😅

It probably is near 800 if you include all the tasks that don't end up getting shown (various tie breakers, and some just full tasks that don't make the final line-up for the studio tapings)

Exactly!!! It's just simply amazing to me. And what also gets me is that a lot of folks have said that some of their favorite tasks come LATER. So the fact that he can keep the creativity going for that long is truly impressive! (as are @gaz-l621's number crunching skills) :)

As a heads up I didn't do hardcore maths, just ballpark based on around 155 episodes of the show with 5 tasks per episode and a rough assumption of an equivalent of 1 unused task per show

Jon Richardson is well known to Greg and other people in this show as he has appeared as a permanent panellist in a long-running show called 8 Out of 10 Cats and the spinoff 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, so I feel like I have more info about Jon’s life stored in my brain than my own life. Yes in the UK and maybe other countries they put corn on vegetarian pizzas. I'm sure many don't, but some do! I've never seen it as an option for a topping here in Canada.

Love watching you react to these did you know that doc Brown could not stand and still talks about it to this day how much he hated being on taskmaster he hated everything about out of all 17 seasons only four contestants complained that they hated it and wish they never did it also can't wait till you get to the Mayor task

It’s been a while since I listened to it but IIRC he only said anything because he thought it was important for possible future contestants to know that the experience might not be for them. I think it’s a pretty stand-up move honestly, I respect it - it’s an opinion that he had every reason to suspect people might be very negative at him about.
