Here is a tip for you American travellers to the U.K. If you want to exchange money from US dollars to British pounds, then go to a Post Office. You will not get ripped off there.
@Psi-StormКүн бұрын
You can use a regular ATM, the only one ripping you off is your own credit card company, which are probably billing you 3% extra for the foreign exchange, if you have the wrong card.
@ag4871Күн бұрын
@@Psi-StormDo be careful, though. If an ATM gives you the option to convert to local currency TURN IT DOWN as the ATM will charge a ripoff rate and fee for the privilege of doing what your own bank is going to do anyway. Another goody is when the ATM gives you 2 choices at the start: "Cash and balance" or "other" - always take "other" as you'll be charged for the blink-and-you'll-miss-it display of the balance if you take the former option. "Other" lets you withdraw cash without the balance fee.

The National Gallery, British Museum, Natural History Museum, Changing the Guard, most medieval churches in the City, Tate Modern, Science Museum, many of the grounds of places such as Hampton Court, Kensington Palace, Greenwich, attending services at St Paul's or Westminster Abbey, observing Parliament debates, etc. Some require booking in advance, but cost nothing. Go to Harrods, Fortnum's, you needn't buy anything, and the same is true of Battersey Power Station centre, and countless famous sites, from Carnaby St to Covent Garden to Borough Market, to..... Last time I took my grandsons to the UK, we visited London for four days. We paid an admission fee only once, to see Churchill's War Rooms. Use public transport, and get a travel card that suits your stay - a week, a month, how many zones (I recommend zones 1, 2 and 3 only - there are 8 zones starting fron the central zone 1). Films: the British Film Institute on the South Bank is worth a visit if you are a film buff. They have four screens and a studio where you can go in and choose to see any film they have in stock (a lot) in a private cubicle with earphones - for free. They also have a shop full of film books and a restaurant.

There's the Houses of Parliament you can sit in the overhead seats and watch debates for free. All the parks are free. Not all restaurants are expensive after all, the thousands of workers need to eat lunch every day. They go to good cheap places. The problem is tourists are easy to spot and then get rippped off.

I would skip the London eye. The tower of London is worth it because it's historical ( built by William the Conquerer) but you may have to queue early.most museums are free. The Globe Theatre - reconstruction of Shakespeares original is worth looking into - not necessary to see a play - although I would, but I love Shakespeare. Madame Tussauds is quite expensive, but kids love it. Strawberry fields original is in Liverpool by the way...As regards food - if you are willing to get some stuff from a supermarket you can save some money and get dinner out- food in London is quite expensive and not always best quality. I think that Oxford Street is overated nowadays. Excursions to other areas of England relatively nearby by US standards might be worth it for a more authentic feel. Another way to get a feel for London without walking too much is to take a short river boat trip on the Thames to see some things from the river. ( There are a choice of ones of different duration.

I hate to say this, because usually I like Wolter's videos, but as a German who has been to London many times, I have to say that most of the things he says in that video are just BS. How can visiting Piccadilly Circus be a scam if you don't have to pay money to see it? Sure, it can be disappointing because you may thought it's more spectacular, but you can say the same about pretty much every sight in any big cit around the world. If you take one of those rickshaw rides, it's your own fault, everybody knows you will end up paying more than you got told before, there are subways and buses at every corner, just get an Oyster card and you're fine. Also, most of the famous museums and sights are free, and you can't put a price tag on things like Abbey Road, or say it's worth it or not. For one person it's just a normal pedestrian crossing, for a die hard Beatles fan, it will totally make his/her day. The same goes for all the Harry Potter filming locations and other famous places from movies or shows.

Buy a Merlin pass and visit them all on the one ticket. There are so many deals out there but you have to research. Don’t stay in a London hotel. Air B& B Greater London where getting into the city by rail is super easy and fast. For £90 two adults can visit Hampton court palace, the Tower of London, whole family for £110. The deals are there. Big tip, explore the country.

There’s this thing called a coach you know!! And it leaves ever so often for London! This dude’s talking a bunch of stuff he doesn’t know the first thing about. I mean, of course London is expencive! So is New York and a lot of places in America! What did you expect Ryan? I really did not find this video the least amusing. Oh, and just one more thing Ryan… Dude, you need to get out of Indiana more and go educate yourself a little! I was gobsmacked and couldn’t believe it when you actually had to look up the Crown Jewels😮 You didn’t know what they are?? Also you don’t know what they are worth you said and laughed at why people cannot stand and watch them. Well The Imperrial State Crown, called the Cullinan-Diamond bears the value of £400 million and it is placed in The Royal Scepter! So you Can add the stones from the crowns and do the math. Also there’s a huge fortune placed on top of Her Majesty’s coffin. You really should go and see for yourself. It’s amazing! I’m a dane, but I used to live in London for a decade😊

You know Ryan you seem very out of your depth with knowledge of Europe. Why don’t you visit yourself and do a number of videos for us?

London is the tourist trap, the rest of the UK has them but there's so much for free and probably quiet and very enjoyable. Still, I have done them myself.😊

Why does this guy bother going anywhere

If you want to go to some of the tourist traps (will require a bit of a trip round the UK, but if that's what you're doing it's worth it), buy a Merlin pass. They are expensive but if you plan to go to a lot of the also overpriced tourist experiences, the annual pass will eventually pay off even on a short trip. A Merlin pass covers: London: The London Eye Madame Tussauds Shrek's adventure London Just outside of London: Chessington World of Adventures (theme park) Thorpe Park (theme park) Legoland Windsor Midlands: Cadbury's World Warwick Castle Alton Towers (theme park) Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham Blackpool: Blackpool Tower Peter Rabbit: explore and play Various locations: Sea life centre (includes London, Blackpool and the Midlands) The Dungeons (includes London and Blackpool) Obviously it doesn't cover everything, but you probably only need to visit 1 of the theme parks, go on the London eye and do one of the other more expensive things (like Legoland or Warwick Castle) and you'll get your money back without doing some of the cheaper things. You can do that without going too far outside of London (Thorpe Park, London Eye, Legoland Windsor, Madame Tussauds, London Dungeons, Sea life centre), and a pretty decent trip at that. If you do those and then go to somewhere like Warwick Castle or the Blackpool Tower on a road trip and you're getting good value

I think if I ever get to England, I will fly into Manchester and stay there. There seems to be a quite a rail system hub there so possible to travel by train or take a town car to spots I want to see.

I've been on the London Eye... I don't recall it costing anything. If it cost $50 there's no way I would have done it.

London is very expensive , there are a lot of better attractions and places to visit around the Country .
