When a ball carrier gets into the 'in-goal' area behind the posts he/she will attempt to get closer to the posts if it is safe to do so. This is because where you touch down dictates the point from where the subsequent conversion kick is taken; the closer to the posts, the easier the kick, especially late in the game where the extra two points is essential for a win.

Love seeing new people get interested in the sport, really enjoyed this video! I'll go through a few things you seem confused or unsure about with timestamps, though I'm aware this is a few months old now and they may have been answered, so I apologise if I'm telling you stuff you already know. 0:53 Yes the ball can be kicked at any point during open play, it is often used to exchange possession for territory (sacrificing possession of the ball to get further up the field.) The ball bouncing back to the player is a mixture of luck and skill, the shape of the ball enables it to "sit up" if it bounces at a particular angle, you see it happen again a bit later on at 9:10. Those short little kicks to yourself are an effective but risky way to make up territory because you cannot tackle a player that doesn't have the ball in their hands, so you make yourself illegal to tackle or impede, but now have to regather the ball which is far from guaranteed. 1:11 It's called a scrum, the ball goes between the two teams and they compete for it by pushing against the other team, but players are allowed to manipulate the ball with their feet as well will try and push it towards their team. 2:17 The All Blacks is a nickname for the New Zealand national team, and it's because of their kit being completely black, but I can see why the name might raise eyebrows without the context! 2:53 The player in white caught the ball inside his team's 22 (the solid white line across the pitch) before it bounced, so he called a "mark" (the arm signal he did) which earned his team a free kick, which he took immediately with the little tap off his foot. It kind of is a little kick-off. 5:39 Yes he scored, but only just. Once you're tackled and held you are not allowed to actually move, you can change your body's position but not its location. The player reached out for the line and got the ball down, but didn't actually wriggle forwards, so it counts as a try. If you look carefully at 13:23 you can see the player on the ground put the ball towards his team after he's tackled because of the same rule. 6:26 You can always grab a ball in open play, it's just much harder to do if it doesn't bounce favourably! 7:07 When you are tackled and held, all you are permitted to do is make one effort to get the ball back to your team. Most of the time these means you put the ball on the ground closer to your team, but sometimes when one team has strong momentum you'll see players make these small passes off the floor. If the pass hadn't connected, the player on the ground would not be allowed to catch the ball and try again. 8:52 it's called the "in-goal area" in rugby, functionally almost identical to the end zone in (American) Football as far as I know. 9:00 Kellaway is just the name of the player who scored. 14:00 After a try is scored, the team gets the opportunity to get an extra two points by kicking the ball over the posts (like a field goal,) but the kick is taken in line with where the try was scored, so if you score closer to the posts, you make it easier for your kicker. There is definitely some showboating in there though, because you're right, if he were to be tackled out of the in-goal area without touching the ball down, the try would not have been scored. Super cool to see you enjoy watching the sport!

@kolerick2 жыл бұрын
1) you can only pass "backward" (or at least on the same line as yourself) 2) you can kick the ball forward, but only you or teammates that were behind you, or teammates overtaken by the kicker or teammates that were behind the kicker, can contest the kicked ball. 3) to score a try, you have to ground it in the "end-zone". If you're tackled before, as long as you still move forward in the same movement, you can still ground it. So, you can slide in, extend yourself or your arm, but you can't crawl in. 4) in the scrum, the ball is introduced by the "offended" team and they will move the ball backward with their feet. In the maul, the ball move backward from hand to hand. In both case, you can't collapse the "gathering". 5) a ruck happen after a tackle. You can only enter from behind the most backward teammate. The tackled player has a short delay to release the ball from his hands. The opponent can contest the ball only by staying on their feet. 6) tackles: have to be done with a visible wrapping of your arms around the opponent, under the shoulder line. If you rise the tackled player in the air, you are responsible to land him safely. No heel over head basically. You can't land him on the head (automatic red card) or the neck (yellow card). You can only tackle the ball carrier. Head or shoulder charge are also sanctioned. Yellow or even red if you hit the head of the opponent. 7) the ball carrier is the only player allowed to push out other other players with his full body (hands, shoulder, elbows etc etc) but they can't do hit the wannabe tackler in the head anymore. 8) after a try, the scoring team get a 2 points worth kick that is made from the perpendicular line from the end zone point where the try was scored. That explain why they will try to ground the ball closer to the goal post. The defending team can charge the kicker as soon he started his kicking motion. They are at least 22m away from the ball (I believe), as is the kicking position from the end-zone. (The kicking position will be further away the more off center it is, to get a better kicking angle. 9) faults will result in either penalty (3 points worth kick from the point of the fault), scrum or 10m penalties for the offending team. Most of the faults are usually either forward passes or dropping the ball forward, or offside. There are also the occasional interference/block (some teams use that very smartly, meaning, they're rarely caught and get their opponents caught for that) 10) when you see "fights", it's nothing to write home about... until there is a hit to the head then, it's the red card. I'm sure there are many things to add, but that's a good beginning I guess what more could I say... hmmm -try watching whole matches... both 2021 and 2022 6N (six nations, the north hemisphere tournament) are very much worth watching -in 2023, there is the rugby world cup in France and it may very well be a feast for the eyes... but USA wasn't able to qualify this time (Chile beat them for the place) -if you want good matches analysis, try squidge rugby...

The US still has a chance to qualify. The last spot will be decided in the Autumn. It will be between the US, Portugal, Kenya and Hong Kong. For upcoming matches, there will be two southern hemisphere games this weekend, Australia vs. South Africa and New Zealand vs Argentina. The most anticipated games of the rest of the year are most likely Ireland vs. South Africa and France vs. South Africa in November. The last tournament of this year's 7s series will also take place this weekend in LA. It's a different game, faster, with only 7 players and two halves of 7 minutes each. The US is more competitive in it than in 15s rugby (rugby union). I definitely second Squidge. He has an amazing understanding of the game and the videos themselves are really well made too.

If you're still coming back for the comments, things to know are: Offside is the key. Tackles below the shoulder line only... Match lasts 80 minutes, 40 each way. Clock doesn't stop. Match stops for offside, injury or incident off the ball. Ball always in "play" except if it crosses the sideline or there is a "Try". It's called a "Try" because early versions of rugby didn't give points for a touchdown, just a field goal attempt (2 pts). Ball must be deliberately grounded beyond the try line, the field goal attempt is taken in line with the grounding. Passes must be backwards, kicks can be forward. Once the player with the ball is tackled, every other player must move onside before rejoining play. A turnover can occur from a line out, scrum, fumble or interception. Backward pass results in a scrum.
@OgeiDennepeL2 жыл бұрын
Just to answer your first couple of questions: yes,you can kick the ball and regather it (making it bounce back into your hands is a bit of winger wizardry that i as a prop am as baffled as you) The thing you didn’t understand where the ball went is called a scrum, the players numbered 1 to 8 are the “ forwards” and take part in it (think of them as the linemen in football)divided in three rows. The first row is the 2 (hooker)with 1 and 3 (the props) at his sides. The there are the second rowers 4 and 5,they put their heads between the inner thigh of each prop and the hooker. And lastly there’s the third rowers (6 7 8),the 6 and seven are bound to the outer thigh of each prop while the Numbers 8 is supposed to put his head between the thighs of the second rowers. The rules of rugby state that a scrum occurs when the ball is knocked on (a player loses control of it and it travels forward hitting the ground or another player) or is passed forwards. the ball must be introduced by the team that didn’t commit the knock on straight into the “tunnel” created by the two scrums binding to each other and the number 2,the hooker,should hook the ball with his foot to make it travel along the scrum and have it get to where the number 8 is. What you mistook for a kickoff is actually a way to start the play after a “mark”. A mark is basically when a player kicks the ball and the opponent catches it (without it touching the ground) inside his 22 meter line (the first solid line after the posts). Since it’s too easy to target an isolated player with a kick and a chaser ready to smash him to bits,if the receiver catcher the ball inside his own 22 meters he can call a mark (by literally yelling “ mark!”),the play stops and all the opponents must be at least 5 meters from the catcher. that player must then restart the play by either tapping it with his foot and runninglike in the video or by tapping and passing it or kicking it .

Unlike American football where it doesn't matter where you cross into the endzone the conversion for the extra points is always taken in the middle of the field, whereas in rugby you take the conversion in line from where the ball was touched down. So if there's a chance to bring it closer to the posts after you cross the line then you do.

Three things to think about when you are looking at Rugby: One: the ball does not go dead when it or the ball carrier's body touches the ground. You have to be able to protect the downed player and the ball or the opposition will take it from you. It is possible to run continuously for 40 minutes until half time. Two: Every player must be able to attack and to defend, and must switch instantly between the two depending on who has the ball. Three: One time interchange. If a player leaves the field (except when they are leaving for a blood injury requiring stitches or a head injury assessment) they may not return for the rest of the game. There are 15 men or women on the field for each side at any time - there are 22 in each team. So there are only seven replacements for each team. No rest, once you come off that's it for the game.

1: Keep in mind that you cannot pass the ball forward from your position. Even when you kick the ball forward any team mate that catches the ball must have been behind you when you kicked the ball. 2: You may not tackle a player without the ball. If you do you get a penalty against you. 3: The "All Blacks" are the New Zealand national team (one of the top two or three teams in the world) and the name refers to the colour of their outfits - it's not a racial thing. 4: You can absolutely kick the ball forward an catch it yourself. 5: To score a goal you have to ground the ball, not just cross the goal line.

Hi Flexx2nicE Reacts, Nice reaction. You understand this sport pretty good and you were right about a lot of takes without even knowing the rules of this sport. 0:55 Yes You can kick the ball but you risk to loose possesion of the ball. Sometimes the ball bounce in weird ways if you dont kick the ball in a certain way. (there are ways to kick the ball that will bounce in a certain way if you do it well) 1:08 This formation is called "Scrum" and is disputed by the pack of fowards of each team (number 1 to 8). Basically this formation is a way to rertrieve possesion of the ball from the defending team when the attacking team makes a mistake (like a "knock-on" when a player drops the ball forward or the ball hits off their hand or arm and moves forward) This formation usually benefits the team that trhows the ball and the guy in charge of doing that is the number 9 or "Scrum-half" that will throw the ball in a way that bounce in direction of his team so they have that advantage while trying to dispute the ball. But is a rough formation and is not always a given that you will get the ball unless you mantain the formation steady and dont let the opposite pack push you back too much. Thats why they inmediatly try to take the ball right away. 3:06 If you see the play when the man catchs the ball he raise his hand. This happen only when the team that kick the ball inside your 25 metters line (without bouncing before the player catch the ball), the player that catchs the ball is allowed by signaling to the referee first to stop the game so you wont get reckted by the offense of the other team that might get to close and your team is out of reach or in a bad position over the field. to defend the ball. The games restart when the player make that little kick, but you can wait for your whole team to reposition and you will have 10meters distance within your team and the opposite one. Here you see he almost inmediatly kick it, so it seems he saw some type of advantage or whole in the opposite team that he can exploit. 5:45 He drop before the line but you have 2 moves to make after your two knees touch the ground (which he did so it was a perfect try). If you dont leave the ball after those 2 moves is considered a penalty to the opposite team. You will see this a lot in rugby. 6:27 You can grabb the ball always when you kick it it doesnt matter if it bounce back. This was a lucky one cause the bounce was kind of weird and benefited the attacking team. 7:11 You have to take into account that this is a non stop 2 episodes of 40 minutes each one. So there are a lot of ways to rettrieve the ball. But mostly is by suffocating the attacking team so you force mistakes. (Knocks on, Past fowwards, winning the "Ruck" formation, forcing a penaltys like trying to get the ball back from a man in the floor that doesnt leave it after those 2 moves, forcing them to kick the ball into your team so they dont loose territory) In an non stop game like this those kind of things are pretty common. This game is all about wearing away the opposite team, from the dessense side trying to force mistakes, and from the attacking side trying to find wholes in the defense, win territory play by play, and have an advantage of numbers by forcing more players of the opposite team to defend. 13:57 He´s not messing really. When you score in the In-goal (in-zone for NFL) you try to do it the closer you can from the goal posts because the exact point where you score will be used as a reference from where the kicker will try to make the 2 extra points by kicking into the goal posts (Same as NFL but the difference is that you always do it from the centre. Here the kick point will be determinated according to where the ball was placed in the in-goal.) iIt seems more difficult than it really is and you got a great understanding of sports. It will be easy for you to understand it well with a couple of full games views. (and you can also play it, is very fun and any type of phisic can have a role in this game). if you have any question dont doubt to ask. Thanks a lot for the video.

Some basic rules of the game 1. You can only pass the ball backwards 2. You can kick the ball forward, but any teammate that collects the ball, needs to have been behind you when you kicked the ball. 3. when the ball goes to ground and offside line is drawn across the field, and players need to stay on their side of that line before. 4. When you get tackled, if you are held, you have the opportunity to place the ball back for your team to collect. often teammates will come stand over you to keep the opponents from collecting the ball. 5. Scoring a try, requires that you ground the ball on, or over the line. so if you get tackled short of the line, you still have the opportunity to reach out to place the ball over the line to score. 6. after a try is scored, your goal kicker gets the opportunity to kick for goal for extra points, but he takes the kick the same distance from the sideline, as where the try is scored. That's why you see the players crossing the line, not grounding the ball, trying to get it under the goal posts, to make the kick easier. 7. Players are only allowed to tackle the player with the ball. 8. tackles need to be made below shoulder level. This is to protect from neck injuries. Some more things to watch out for when watching the game 1. there is tremendous depth in the defense of the game, especially because of the fact that players can kick the ball. 2. when players run the ball directly into opponents, they are doing so to draw defenders in and to setup positions for attacking angles. This is called setting up phases. 3. the best moments of the game is when it keeps going without stoppages in play. nothing is as satisfying as a long hard battle, where players are strewn across the field because they are totally out of breath. 4. The game has a few set pieces to start the game from a stoppage. A "line out" is done when the ball goes over the side-line. Players stand in two parallel rows with one team throwing in the ball from the sideline. A scrum is when the ball was lost forward ("fumbled"). The larger player (forwards) stack up shoulder to shoulder in 3 row against the opposing team, with one team throwing the ball in-between the front rows. The forwards then compete to get the ball by pushing against the opponents and attempting to hook the ball with their feet. 5. there are many rules in in-fragments players can commit, where the referee awards a penalty and the opposing team gets the kick the ball down field.
@davidtodd34012 жыл бұрын
Basic explanation for when you have to release the ball is when the defender halts your momentum. At that point, you have to release the ball (preferably on your team's side) and both sides compete to get it. In the scrum (start of the video), when the ball goes in, the guy in the middle of the front row for each team tries to drag the ball back to his side with his foot or "hooking" for it (that position is called the hooker)
@marcuscarman1854 Жыл бұрын
Question at 1:14 So essentially when someone passes the ball forward or drops it forward unintentionally, we do a scrum, the team that didn’t drop the ball gets to put the ball into the middle of the scrum. The scrum pushes at each other, and the middle player in each team’s front row tries to hook the ball and push it backwards with their feet, where it can be picked from the back of the scrum.

Just to let you know. It does matter where they put the ball down behind the try line (Touch line). After a try is scored, the scoring team get to kick between the posts for an extra 2 points (It's called a conversion). The kicker has to kick the ball from in line where the ball was touched down. So the closer to the posts you touch it down, the easier it will be for the kicker to take his conversion. Hope I explained that alright
@markphillips11772 жыл бұрын
At 7:09 you asked "at what point do you have to give up the ball?" In rugby union you can keep the ball for as long as you are able (in the similar code rugby league, possession is limited to six tackles/downs). The ball remains live at each tackle and is there for an opportunity to compete for the ball, but the ball carrier is expected to generally set the ball up favourably for his supporting teammates. The defender will try to turn the tackled player to expose the ball to his side, especially one of the ball-sharks hopefully hovering ready to reach in and get hands on the ball quickly. The continuity of the attacking play makes time in defence particularly exhausting for the big boys around the ball. Make a tackle, straight back up on feet after the ruck to find you're already several yards behind the play. With tiredness comes mental lapses and wrong decisions (as you identified there an incredible number of split second decisions to be made in both attack and defence) and away the other mob go.

When the players are on pitch in the huddle it's called a Scrum. This is where the forwards (First 8 players) are using their strength against eachother after a penalty. The Scrum-Half (number 9) is placing the ball on the side of the Scrum to the Hooker (Number 2, 2nd man from the front row) this then travels down the scrum towards the Number 8. The players are essentially kicking the ball down the pack.

The scoring area (NZone) is called the try line in Rugby. The ball must be grounded under control once over the try line to score, you can't just drop it or slam it down.
@Bob_Bobskin2 жыл бұрын
And it must be grounded. So even if you get in the end zones, if the defenders can stop you touching it down. It doesn't count.
@Stewart6823 ай бұрын
The closer to the goal posts that you touch the ball down the easier it makes the conversion kick since the point where the kick is taken is based on where the ball touched the ground.
@KevinPugh-hq8rc Жыл бұрын
To convert the try - the touch down which gives you 5 points, you want to get as close to the posts to make the conversion easier. The conversion - the kick at the goal, is perpendicular to where the ball was touched down for 3 points.

At 7:10 you asked about when possession changes. In this regard basketball is similar in that the possession of the ball is always being contested. If the offense commits a handling error backwards the ball is open to be stolen, if lost forwards the opposing team gets the roll in a scrum. If the defense is on top of it they can often pressure the offense into mistakes, errant kicks, passes, etc. If an offensive player is trying his luck on the sideline and gets tackled out of bounds by the defense while in possession, the tackling players team is awarded the ball in the next throw-in. Passes can be intercepted, although rare. Ball carriers can have the ball stripped. If a team finds itself on offense but backed up against their own end zone they will often punt it away giving away possession in the hopes the defending/receiving team makes their own error when they make the catch and transition into offense. Also, most importantly, every tackle made is an oppertunity for the defense to make/force the turnover whether by making the strip, overwhelming the offensive support, or forcing an offensive penalty. The breakdown/ruck (sight of tackle) has a myriad of laws, penalties, gamesmanship, and finesse mixed with DL type power. This is just a handful.
@louislynge2 жыл бұрын
Basically the ball is the territory. When tackled the ball is placed on the ground and the opposing team can then try to push over the ball to gain possession of the ball.. In a scrum the ball is fed into the middle and the person in the middle "the hooker" then uses his "props" (the people on each side of the hooker - in the front row of the scrum) to prop him up so he can swing his legs out and "hook" the ball back to the back of the scrum... Or they can leave the ball on the ground and then push the other team to get the ball to the back of the scrum. If the player runs towards the middle of the "in goal area" it means that the conversion will be at that spot instead of making it a harder kick from the side of the field. (in other words the conversion is perpendicular to where the ball was grounded for the try). It is a great and complex game. When you watch a full test, you will see why it's called a "test", they don't stop for 40 min halves.

One thing you don't see in these highlights is how structured rugby is. You saw that you can "crash", pass or kick, but in practice only a few players on the field are trained to kick and not all in the same way, and players know where their teammates are because they've all trained to follow patterns, the same way runners do in american football (I think ?). It's an equilibrium to find between chaos (your opponent can't tell what you'll do, but neither can your team) and organized play (your team knows what they'll do, but so does the opposition) with each nation having its own take on the formula.
@felicityanne9792 жыл бұрын
The first clip. When the forward 8 players crouch and bind to form a scrum, a scrum half (9) will feed the ball into the scrum from the left hand side of their team. The ball is supposed to be fed straight for a fair contest but hasn't been fed straight for years 😂 the idea is to feed the ball to your own team but has to go under number 2. (Hooker) legs. The opposing number 2 is allowed to contest the ball and also hook it back to their own team but only by using their feet. Once hooked the ball will make its way to the back of the scrum towards number 8 and either 8 or 9 can take the ball off the base of the scrum. Dropping before a line doesn't matter so long as a single momentum takes you over the line. If you don't go over the line you can present the ball forward and if you can still reach the line the point counts. Kicks can happen anywhere in the game the only rules are, anyone in front of the kicker on the same team is offside and must either drop back 10 meters or somone behind the kicker runs past them and puts them back onside. If the ball hits the floor first and it isn't an attempt at goal it's a knock on and possesion is turned over and if you are beyond the 22 the ball must land in play first if you are kicking off field OR if you are inside your own 22 it can go straight out, if the ball stays in field its basically just a foot race for whoever can grab the ball first. You are not allowed to obstruct, hold, block or tackle a player who has a chance at retrieving the ball and if someone dives on the ball you are not allowed to dive on the player on the floor.

Great to see your developing interest in Rugby Union football. Rugby is a game for spectators and players, American Throwball is a game for TV Advertisers and hot dog sellers. In Rugby there are so many "plays" in one passage of play that would take 6 or 7 or more plays and 15 minutes in US Throwball. Kicking the ball forward is more haphazard and totally legal and the only way to move the ball forward EXCEPT for carrying it. Passes must be lateral or behind.
@danielkristiansson34392 жыл бұрын
That Nick White try where he's tackled just before the line but then scores anyway - in rugby you're allowed a second motion on the ground as long as you are still propelled by your initial speed. So if you're just short of the line, you'll often see players stretching an arm or struggling for an extra meter on the ground. There's more to it ofc, but that is basically why that try was allowed.

Love watching learning and enjoying Rugby. Other comments have explained why the run toward the goal post after crossing the Goal line, though if you want to see perfection watch Johnny Wilkinson converting. English player. I am Australian so that is a really hard thing to say lol. And yes once you are past the goal line the other team can attack the ball to strip it. Playing both Rugby and Rugby League when young the rule was definitely no show boating until ball down and points up on the board.

The rugby equivalent of PAT (conversion) is taken from the same line as where the ball is touched down .... if you score in the corner, the conversion is kicked from near the sideline, so a more acute angle to get it through the posts. Running across the "end zone" and touching down behind the posts means that you will be kicking from right in front line a PAT. It's not just about the "taunt" or psychological game ... though that can come into play to "rub it in" the faces of the opponents

In NFL after you score a TD the extra point is taken from the hash on the side the TD was scored. In rugby their is no hash, so the kicker has to kick from the sideline if the try was scored in the corner. Players running closer to the goalposts before putting the ball down is to try and help the kicker out.

Top laws. You can only pass sideways or backwards. You can get past an opponent by sidestepping or pretending to pass - called "selling the dummy". Tackling a player without the ball costs a penalty which can cost points. 5 points for grounding the ball behind the tey-line. 2 pts for then placing the ball on a trivet and kicking it over the bar between the posts. You make the attempt opposite the spot where the ball was grounded so you try get behind the posts if you can. In open play you can score 3 pts by droping the ball and kicking it over the bar as it touches the ground. Called a drop-goal. You can score 3 pts by the award of a penalty for illegal play kicking it between the posts. Usually from well-indside the opponents` half. You make a long pass by putting spin on the ball. .

things that you are probably not aware of (things that generally came up in this video): - The ball is always in play, unless there is an error, ball goes out of bounds, there is a penalty, or after points have been scored. - When you get tackled, there is a scrimmage to get the ball and continue play. - If the ball hits the ground, play does not stop unless play has been stopped for an error. - When passing the ball it must be passed backwards (like a lateral). - Kicking is allowed and encouraged in normal play. If the ball does not go out of bounds there is no stoppage in play. - If you catch a kick on the full inside your own 22m line (red zone) you get a free kick (like a fair catch). A dead-ball restart is required before play continues. - To score a TRY you must GROUND THE BALL in the endzone (just crossing the plane is not sufficient). - After each TRY you have a chance to convert it (like an extra point). The conversion is taken in line from where the TRY is scored, which is why you see people running towards the goal posts before they ground the ball. - Usually after a handling error, play is restarted with a SCRUM. - Usually after the ball goes out of bounds, play is restarted with a LINEOUT. Lots more to explain about the rules.. but honestly i cant be bothered writing any more here..

@Flexx2nicEReacts When the Forwards of both teams link up in formal move its called a scrum. The scrumhalf (9) puts in the ball and retrieve at last players feet(8). Players 1,2,3 make the front row, the locks (4&5) the tallest guys the 2nd row. Now player (6&7) link up on either side of the locks so from the top view you see the 2nd row have 4 players. The 3rd row and last player to join the scrum is no 8 usually a tall guy too

If you catch the ball on the full from a kick and you are inside your 22, basically your 1st quarter of the field. You can call for a fair catch allowing you to restart. Also the main tactic of the game is to retain possession so kicking the ball can be advantageous but you could also be giving the ball to the other team.
@cashman53552 жыл бұрын
Another thing is for a kick to be regathered every person chasing on the attacking team has to be the line of play (where the feet are of the player with the ball) So to score He has to watch the ball, know where he is in the field, know where the defenders are and also see ahead where he can place the ball for the kick.

NZ All Black Sir Wayne "Buck" Shelford will always a rugby football legend for the 1986 injury he sustained in a match against France, while still an amateur player (no sponsorship or endorsements) 20mins into the match he was involved in a very aggressive maul where he lost 4 teeth and a french players boot tore open his scrotum leaving his testicle exposed. He calmly left the field, asked the team doc to stitch him up and he went back on the field to play. Now that's hard core 🤘🤘

Hey man, on the guy getting grounded before he scores You can travel as far as momentum carries you, and as well you are allowed 1 'reach' if you are stationary in the tackle. If you get cheeky with it it is called a double movement, and it is a penalty to the defending team.

After you score a try the extra point kick (called a conversion in rugby - worth 2 points) is taken from wherever you put the ball down, so if you can get closer to the posts that makes it easier for the kicker, so they are not taunting, just getting an easier conversion for their kicker.
@marcuscarman1854 Жыл бұрын
After you score you have to “convert” your try by kicking it through the posts, the place where you score your try matters as to where you kick from, scoring under the posts you gains you a better angle for the kick, and higher garuntee you get the extra points.

In a nutshell, 2 teams with 15 players each and a bench with subs. When a team has the ball or possession, they can either pass or kick. You can only pass backwards. If you kick only teammates behind you and yourself is "on side" and can go for the ball, the kicker can chase in order to make others "on side". Any of the opposition can play the ball. If you kick it out, the other team gets to throw the ball in, so you lose possession. if you pass forward the other team gets to put the ball in at the scrum. If there's a penalty you can kick the ball out and keep possession, team with the penalty can throw it in. You score 3 points by kicking over a penalty. You score 5 points for grounding the ball over the tri line, and after a tri you can get 2 extra from the kick, the conversion. Most teams will play for territory where try to play in the other teams half where a penalty would not be in range for 3 points from a kick, and obviously its harder to run the ball that far out. There is a lot more technical rules but this should give you a very basic idea of how the game works and flows.
@matthewhortop78282 жыл бұрын
The closer you touch the ball down to the posts the easier your conversion attempt is. It's take inline with where the ball was placed. So the further to the touch means a tighter angle for the kicker.
@ducite9943 Жыл бұрын
in rugby when you score a try a kicker then has to take a kick inline with where the ball was placed so they will run it as close to the centre as they can safely.

In rugby parlance when the ball goes out of the field of play it "goes into touch". The ball is not "in touch" unless it hits the ground or the player is "grounded" ie. Had a foot in touch. So you can jump into the touch area and toss a ball heading out of play back onto the field and it is still live. This is why you see lots of tries at the side line where attention is paid to whether the player has touched the "in touch" area before touching the ball in the try zone (end zone). A player can be in the air over the touch zone and still score a try... so long as they push the ball down to the ground in the try zone before any part of them touches the ground "in touch". When a ball goes into touch as a general simplification of the laws (rugby btw has laws... not rules) the other side gets to throw the ball into the line out. Players can be picked up when they jump in the line out to contest who gets the ball. The benefit of throwing the ball in is you can decide how deep to throw it. This is a "set peice" ie. One of the areas in a rugby game where the location of specific players is defined and where you can have an advance strategy as to the play. Most of a rugby game is dynamic with decisions made by the players on the field. Nfl by comparison I a series of set plays with every scrimmage being a set play where everyone prepares in advance as to the strategy and then executes it but Because in the play does not stop when a tackle occurs (the players just continue to "contest" the ball and either side can technically get it) the players have to "make the magic" based on the situation they find themselves in.
@atoniotaualii37612 жыл бұрын
in the big huddle sorta thing (called a scrum) both teams push/contest for the ball, depending on which team feeds the ball, that team usually has a higher chance of winning, unless the opposite scrum is stronger

When scoring a try, if you are tackled just short you are allowed to reach out your arm to attempt to score (in one movement), however you are NOT allowed to attempt to crawl or move your body closer (apart from momentum) or reach twice (that would be a penalty to the other side for 'double movement).

When he was “down” before the line but scurried over it and scored, you’re only “down” in Rugby if the defender is controlling you in the tackle. The defender wasn’t controlling so he was able to get the ball over the line and touch it down. If you wanna use a Rugby term for “broke his ankles” you can say he “was selling Candy” or “threw a dummy on him” 😂
@dimaspozzo99702 жыл бұрын
the reason why he kept running inside the end zone is that after a try the conversion is kicked which is from the place where you landed 22 yards back that's why it goes closer to the h which is where the ball has to pass

When you kick the ball forward, there's always a chance that you lose possession - so when it falls your way, it's dope. Also, the guy wasn't fully tackled, so he got up and continued to the try line. He's not taunting. If he can get the try under the goal, then it's an easy kick to convert - right in front. Otherwise, the conversion kick needs to be from the side
@jollysheldone425 Жыл бұрын
The reason they move to the centre after crossing the try line is not showboating, the conversion kick for the extra 2 points is taken in line with the position of the grounding of the ball.
