@JJLA Reacts , I liked the narrators little joke at the end " It's Music Jim Not As We Know it " , this is a lyric from the song Star Trekking by The Firm 🎵🎵🎵 . But i agree there are lots of good covers out there , covers should be different from the original but good enough not to make your ears bleed 🤣🤣🤣 . But there are some classics that shouldn't be messed with .

To be fair, it was a famous Star Trek quote before The Firm doing that song in 1987.

Excellent, I have a reason to mention Roxette! They recorded their own version of Help by the Beatles, at Abbey Road in 1995. It's accoustic, slower,, and Marie makes it her own. Done in one take. I love it, but I am extraordinarily biased!

The absolute Queen of covers in the UK was Cilla Black; throughout her career, absolutely no song was safe from getting the CIlla treatment. From Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, to Knowing me Knowing You by ABBA, to The Golden Girls theme tune - our Cilla has butche... I mean, covered them all as part of her TV shows! She had a distinctive voice which is not to everyone's taste - I read one person describe it as being "like a fire in a pet shop" - but I actually like it; it certainly is strong, and good for big ballads! But check out her version of All Night Long by Lionel Ritchie featuring posessed (and possibly epileptic) children to get an idea of the thing she used to do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJKwloaQjbaLbas

Green Day's cover of My Generation, on the album Kerplunk!, is pretty good. Shatner's covers are intentionally bad, the man knows he can't sing so pretty much does it all in the voice of Kirk.
@neilprice5132 ай бұрын
I actually went through KZbin to find these covers as they came up. The Korn version of Another Brick in the wall has some pacing issues, some parts are Ok others hurt the ears. The Ashley Tisdale version of Never gonna give you up is just plain awful, they tried to make it into a dance song and failed. Paris Hilton - Do You Think I'm Sexy is just mediocre in every way possible. My Generation- Hillary duff painfully average 90's schlock pop. The Flaming Lips - Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds was all over the place. it didn't flow properly between the music and vocals. Limp Bizkit - Faith. No...just no True Faith-George Michael. It could have worked IF they used Georges proper singing voice only and didn't autotune the ever living crap out of it. t.A.T.u.- How Soon Is Now. Her voice didn't go with the song and it just sounded odd. As her voice was "too happy" sounding [I Can't Get No] Satisfaction- Britney Spears. Why did she sing it "sexy"? Makes the vocals sound creepy. Bohemian Rhapsody-William Shatner. Epic cover what are Watch Mojo talking about? 🤣

Yeah, Pink Floyd don't do singles - they do whole albums - so they never get top 40 hits. Consider "Dark Side of the Moon". One of the best-selling albums of all-time. But it only had one single - "Money" - which is a song in 7/8, with no chorus, and half the song is a sax solo. And that's the closest thing to a single they had that the record company insisted on releasing it. But, like, that's got to be the least "commercial single" that's ever been released as a single. Indeed, Pink Floyd's albums blend all the songs together. If the Sex Pistols were the Anti-Christ, Pink Floyd is the Anti-Single.

Chris Cornell or Chester Bennington (RIP both) could've covererd any song and it would've been an instant hit. Some covers I prefer to the original, take the cover of Running Up That Hill by Placebo for example. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is equally as good as the orginal by NIN yet they feel so different. From NIN's rawness to Cash's solemn retrospection.

One missing from the list: "Eleanor Rigby" was a gentle, poignant lament for the lonely by the Beatles. Rick Springfield missed the point and turned it into a loud, bombastic disaster. And I'm pretty sure that Bill Shatner's recordings are ironic - he'll know the reaction they get. His rending... erm... rendering of Pulp's "Common People" nudges into the "so bad it's good" category.

Ashley Tisdale's 'beeps' seemed totally disconnected from the song. Once she got going it was a fairly close cover of Rick Astley's version- but the beeps were.....meh! Paris Hilton....Nope! Sorry. Hilary Duff - couldn't even find it on YT..... Limp Bizkit - he's just screaming? Britney Spears- the intro is passable on the grounds of taking one song and turning it into something totally different/ unrecognisable- but once she gets into the meat of the song.....nope! William Shatner - if he's not being ironic, he needs help!

What's the point of sound like the original artist on a cover? Go different IF you think it works, but otherwise leave covers alone. That stands for all covers but the more popular the original hit was the more different the cover should be. I'm no expert on Beatles covers but the only one I heard (recorded after the Beatles split) that was any good was Help by John Farnham, a totally different song. Oh yes, because she flagrantly copied John Farnham's version, Tina Turner gets no credit for her version.

I've heard a cover version of "Another Brick ..." by a German kids' choir -- mostly girls, too. No. Just -- no. Also, some cover versions just don't work. Take "Die Moorsoldaten" (The Peat Bog Soldiers), a song written by concentration camp inmates during WW II and has become part of German folk music. Theodore Bikel recorded the essential version, just his voice, a guitar and (IIRC) some background singers. Now try to imagine a version sung by the Soviet Army Grand Choir. I concede that they had some great voices and performances, but this?!? UGH!

@JJLA. Sometimes I think you are being much too diplomatically nice to a bands/performers for their covers being bad. Often a bad cover is the result of them being effectively forced to do it by their industry bosses/promotor/label contractual pressures etc, or/& because of other issues, say creative burnout, drugs/alcohol, illness or even managerial spite, so their hearts aren't in it or with it. Come on JJ/man/dude, you know how the industry at differing levels is and how somethingd behind the glitz BS are, if you've worked wth Houston, you know a bit of some of the goings on... Good & great covers, even when/if done not to the best by the cover's , have and convey the energy, emotion, ethos &/or vibe of the original whilst still having that other spark of different drive or edge to them by the covering band/artist(s) own effort(s)! whom largely a least like or love the original to give it some justice or heart.
