Thank you for loving my country, it literally is like a massive national park. I wish I was rich, I would of paid and brought you over in a second. I could feel the genuine love from you for Scotland, thank you.

My late wife was Scottish (Clan Graham). We spent 3 weeks driving all around Scotland while she did some geneology research. The pinnacle of the trip was the Isle of Skye. It is the most beautiful place I've every visited. The Talisker brewery is located on Skye. If you get there, go to the brewery on Saturday night for their weekly Caleigh where they have area bands playing and give you shots of whiskey at the door! Be careful driving. You can come over a hill only to find a bus bearing down on you with no place to pull over. There are turnouts about a mile apart, and somebody has to back up to one of those to get by. Guess who backed up? Very interesting experience. The people on Skye are SO friendly. We stopped at a cottage to get a photo of my wife in front of the cottage. The lady living there came out, brought us into her house and gave us lunch just for the chance to talk about Scotland and the USA. It is a memory I will always treasure.

First time I ever hiked in Scotland was winter in snow along the cliff to Old Man of Storr. Not a track in the snow and it was magical. Got hooked there and then and spent the next few years doing Munroes. Love Scotland.

Love your comments on this video! "Like the whole country is a national park" - yes! I agree! Even in the cities the mountains are so close and in Edinburgh you can get up high and look out over so much on a clear day. I love it here, and hope you make it over. Keep making vids!

Yes it's beautiful! So lucky to not have to drive far to see it! Lot's of beautiful national parks in the US, but you have to fly or drive for dayyyyys to see them ( I live in the southeast... different kind of beauty around here. )

Brits tend to prefer the countryside too. People live in some lovely, rural places. If you want to see the UK up close, play Geoguessr. It's a great way to get to know our streets, towns and villages.

The Highlands of Scotland are approximately a three hundred mile drive from top to bottom. There's also a Scottish southerly mountain range called the Southern Uplands. The majority of Scotland's five and a half million population lives in the strip of land in between the two ranges called the central belt, with the cities of Glasgow in the west and Edinburgh in the east. As you correctly mention, the reason that the Highlands is relatively empty is because of the Highland clearances where the clan chiefs and estate owners discovered that sheep were more profitable than human beings on the land. Many clan chiefs had been seduced by the cities and moved to Edinburgh or London and adopted a different and expensive lifestyle. Eventually this resulted in the people being cleared off the land and either migrating to the US or to colonies like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc, or alternatively moving to cities like Glasgow where the industrial revolution was beginning. Some of this was carried out brutally and sometimes a little more humanely (for the time) but ultimately the result was the same which was to deprive people of their ancestral lands that they'd lived on for many hundreds or even perhaps more than a thousand years from before the clans even existed. It must be pointed out that the Highlanders generally lived in extreme poverty and the poor quality land was struggling to support the population so something would have had to change regardless. It may be that in an alternative universe large towns grew up in the Highlands and people moved off the land but given the landscape and difficulties of building roads and transport links with the technology of the time, it's likely that people would still have to move away in large numbers but perhaps in a more gradual and kinder way.

McNeill is a Scottish and Irish surname. The name McNeill is often associated with the islands of Gigha and Colonsay. The name is considered a sub-sept of Clan MacNeill, which is historically associated with the island of Barra in the outer Hebrides.

Thankyou Choppedliver ,a lovely reaction ,although I am not scottish ,I can visit there from England fairly easily and did so 2 years ago with a friend. We did visit Skye and the Trotternish peninsular (the Quiraing) among many other beautiful places,it really is as mind blowing as in the video,I think the Isle of Skye was my favourite, but you really cannot go wrong in Scotland.I would like to see more of the Outer Hebrides sometime and Orkney and Shetland, maybe one day.I would also love to visit my relatives in Manitoba ,Canada one day ,I am not sure if that will ever happen though. Many thanks and I will watch more of your videos. Here is one of the videos I made whilst in Scotland of the far north, another amazing part of Scotland. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rH_CXqSMZrWYm68si=99uDR3r2vgID53Jv

Scotland has over 790 islands, with 94 being recorded as inhabited, so it would be a shame not to include a visit to at least one Scottish island on your travels around the country. However, each island is unique and each has its own charm, so it can be difficult to recommend just one to visit.

Yep, lots of places missed on this list and probably some of the worst pronunciations I’ve ever heard😑😂 If yous did do a travel vlog, if 100% watch it💕 Also, with your Scottish blood, you must listen to ‘Bagpipes Bands performing "Amazing Grace" LIVE’.. trust me, I’ve never known this to not hit people hard even with the tiniest wee bit of Scottish blood. Genuinely, hits me like a punch in the chest every single time I listen to this one😁 Much love from Scotland, cousin💙🏴

Ps: it’s the one from the Maximoon channel, just incase you do decide to listen to it😬 Also, in regard to you talking about the size of Scotland. It’s important to know that 91% of the population lives on only 2% of the country. So practically everywhere is just endless countryside with no people around whatsoever lol
