Interestingly, the Irish rugby team represents both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and fairly recently they stopped singing amhrann na bhfiann (the Irish national anthem) in favour of a song for the whole of ireland. The Welsh are famous worldwide for their singing - and their national anthem is a glorious piece of music. A crowd of Welsh people singing their anthem is something filled with pride and passion (what the Welsh call "Hwyl"). To actually be in the crowd is something amazing. The two emblems on the pitch are the badges of the English and Welsh rugby teams - a red rose for England and three ostrich feathers (from the coat of arms of the Prince of Wales) for Wales.

4:32 The rose is the symbol of the English rugby team, and the "flower-thing" on the red background are the Three Feathers of the Prince of Wales, the emblem of the Welsh rugby team. 6:31 The cream is petroleum jelly, which protects against "cauliflower ears" - a disfigurement caused by pressure and friction on the skin of the outer ear. Cauliflower ears are an occupational hazard for rugby forwards, who spend a lot of their time in "scrums" with their ears pinned between their opponents' heads, or clamped between the legs of their fellow forwards.
@ianpark18053 жыл бұрын
The petroleum jelly doesn’t work on really hot days. As a rugby player with a decided shortage of hair, I smeared the stuff on my pate to seal any collision caused scratches or cuts, but if you got really hot, you’d be blinded by a river of molten petroleum jelly. Similarly on long distance runs Vaseline in and above the eyebrows to deflect sweat away from your eyes worked until the critical temperature was reached and the whole lot poured into your eyes! Fortunately in Britain it’s rarely that hot!

And the shot of the guys with the dodgy ears is why I soon decided to wear a scrum cap - and I was a scrum-half, so I technically didn't need one! BTW, the Six Nations means the six nations of Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland, France and the recent addition of Italy. And height? Well, if you're small, fast and lithe, you're a winger. If you're slightly bigger, and not quite as fast, you're a centre, although there are centres that are built like brick toilet blocks. If you're small, rather clever and quickish (I wasn't, but I had quick hands!) you're either a fly-half (usually the guy that does the tactical kicking for possesion) or a scrum-half (the guy from the backs who looks after the forwards who are the ones that scrum down, also does a bit of tactical kicking of his own - see if you can find Robert Jones's performance on KZbin where he tied down England in the corner with little tactical kicks to defend a small lead in 1989!) and to complete the backs, the Full Back, usually a bit taller than a winger (he often has to catch high balls), meatier but just as fast. Now we come to the forwards. These are the guys in the scrum. We start with the hooker (no laughing at the back there!), who "wins" the ball in the scrum, who is not amazingly tall, but is stocky to say the least. Then there are his supports, the props. The Props are slightly bigger than the hooker - usually a prop hovers about 6ft dead - and are very stocky indeed. Then there are the locks, that "lock" the scrum together, and also win the ball at the lineout. These guys are HUGE! Anywhere between 6ft6 and nearly 7ft, and like the props, not known for their speed (the hooker is a bit faster!) then there are the Flankers, who are on the outside of the scrum. A flanker is what happens when you've got a lock that's on the small side, but with real pace - since 1995 some flankers have been converted to wingers to take advantage of a big, heavy bloke running over you! Finally, we have the Number 8, who is the guy at the back of the scrum. These guys are big, fairly fast and often SUICIDALLY BRAVE! Hope that clears a few things up!

Rugby is designed so that any body size can be accommodated within the team of 15 players. The forwards tend to be the stronger and bigger, whereas the backs are faster and more nimble, therefore tend to be smaller than the forwards. However, some forward positions lend themselves to being short, but stocky.
@jamesdignanmusic27653 жыл бұрын
In rugby, tall strong players are usually the players who bind and push in the scrums, and the really heavy-set players are the front row of the scrums. The shorter, faster players are the back line who distribute the ball away from the scrum. In the scrum, players can easily get cauliflower ears, so a lot of players tape them :) And those weren't the team owners, they were the coaches.

To answer your question on the 🌼 it's a Daffodil which is like a yellow rose which is wales national flower. Why well it's to do with a Welsh leak believe it or not and the reason being both the leak and Daffodils sound alike in the Welsh translation and most foreign people thought the national flower was a Daffodil so it became it as it was recognised by so many as it was. The real story of the leak came from a battle our Saint St David asked his troops to wear leaks in battle as the uniforms on both sides were to similar so on the battle field our troops could identify each other by the leaks. It lead to a great victory. Why leaks it was the only thing around that there was enough to give to each soldier. Afterwards became a symbol of wales.

The Welsh are known for being brilliant singers and their love of music. All my teachers and my head teacher at Primary School were all Welsh. As a result Maths and English weren’t really a big deal there but music, singing and drama were. I loved it! 🙂💗👌 xx

Rugby is the one sport that wakes goes crazy over. Football is like the second sport but the surrounding in football is as good. The phrase “gwlad GWLAD” is the loudest phrase that will be said in a Welsh stadium. I’ve been to a couple of games and each time it is amazing you just want to pour your heart and soul into it.

The feathers are the symbol of the Welsh team (the prince of wales feathers) and the daffodil is the Welsh national flower, the team they were playing against was England and both their national flower and symbol is a rose.

The Six Nations Championship is a rugby tournament played every year between February and March. Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, and Italy participate playing each other once and being awarded points for winning and/or scoring a certain number of tries (touchdowns). Points can also be won by the losing team if they keep the score within a certain margin. Once every nation has played against the others, the nation with the highest points total wins the Championship. If a nation wins all their games with no losses, they win the Grand Slam. Hope that helps!

Im English but definitely got a soft spot for the welsh national anthem. Plus the rugby team sing it with such pride. English football could learn a lesson from them

The 6 nations is an international Rugby tournament between England Scotland (who have a little mini contest within it for the Calcutta Cup), Wales, Ireland (which I think Rugby Union is the only sport they play as a United nation), France and Italy. It's played yearly in the spring and is well worth watching

Your a smart woman. I’m Welsh . We are tribal. Welsh is our old Language uncorrupted by Latin . We lost our country to the queen., her son Charles in 1969 was put on our thrown. The 3 feathrs are King Charles emblem.!it’s not true Welsh . We are the dragon

Trust me there is nothing, NOTHING compared to being in the Millennium Stadium when the Welsh National anthem is being sung - the volume (not to mention passion) is incredible, especially if the roof is closed. TV can never do it justice!

There's a few Welsh celebrities in Holywood if youre interested in what the average Welsh man looks like: luke evans, Ioan Gruffydd, Tom Ellis, Timothy Dalton, Taron Egerton. You've got a few of our presenters too; Steve Jones, Tim Vincent. So yeah... That's what the average Welshman looks like... Fact.

Being of Welsh ancestry,it isnt so much the song, but the pride with which it is sung.

The 6 nations is the annual tournament for the northern hemisphere nations. We have England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, France and Italy. The welsh rugby emblem is the Prince of Wales ostrich feathers. A nation will play all other nations during the tournament. Within this tournament the Calcutta cup is played by Scotland and England. The players wear packing or a Vaseline on their ears to prevent cauliflower ears which happens when they take a blow to the ear and it’s very painful to have corrected.

The euros for football starts on Friday. You have a chance to learn about football. It's the 2nd biggest tournament below the world Cup but its huge for all of europe. They'll obviously be less fans though. Wales England and Scotland all qualified. Maybe you can react to the best goals or something. Although it's always better if you watch it in the pub surrounded by fans.

I'm English and the Welsh singing their anthem brings a tear to my eye. Best anthem by the world's best singers. Wales is called the 'The Land of Song' for a good reason. The South African would be good too if it was shorter.

To Wales rugby is a lot more than a sport, it’s in the blood. It’s a sense of national pride, it brings us together and that unity is what makes it so intimidating. When wales play the country stands with them. Amazing video but the only way to experience welsh rugby is to be in a pub/bar/club or the national stadium and feel the atmosphere
