I believe that it is inherently wrong to make generalized statements about groups of people. Every person is an individual and while a given statement may be true about the average person of some group, it does not apply to all persons of that group.

Unless you live in that country for a long time, you are never really fluent compared to the local nationals. There will always be the word or phrase with a meaning unknown to you. I used to speak a very fluent American English with an accent and word choice located primarily in the south. It took GIs in Stuttgart, Germany, about 30 to 40 minutes to find out that I am a local national -- and they can detect the local national when he just opens his mouth. Usually I made a simple mistake by then. But when I had a US girlfriend I learned how narrow and limited my knowledge of AE was. On the other hand, when you learn a foreign language you don't learn each and every meaning a word may have, you only learn what you need to know in that very instant. And there are lesser used grammar rules that you don't master.

The sweetest thing about Americans is how they love your accent or think it's cute, when in Europe it's a real disadvantage and you would try to hide or diminish it, no matter the language, because it it can be annoying /hard to understand sometimes. 😊

Liking different accent in the same language is interesting. I like to hear Scottish people speak English. I can't say that I like a specific accent of non native speaker while speaking German. And the only German dialect I like is the one from North Germany. In every other case I would prefer high German. But I hear very often that Americans like different English dialects or people speaking with a certain foreign accent. I wonder why this is.

I lived in Hong Knong years back and one day 1;800 turned up. OMG we took the piss big time, it was like shooting fish in a barrel there IQ had problems, we could not help it. I use run a bar in HK. one evening a groop of crew chucked one over the bar at me. Im 5 '2 so i was tiny i grabed him and just chucked him back. Interestingly, you mentioned “cowboy.” The word cowboy devried from the Spainish word vaquero where ‘vaca” means “cow” and were used mainly for black Americans because the “boy” suffix denotes that blacks weren’t men, they were boys. Some denny it some admit it, but there is a common anglo-saxon-phile thing between Canada, Australia, UK, US, Ireland and New-Zealand. Everybody in this world is equal(but we english speakers are a little bit more equal). But its ok. For examlple french people not even try to hide that they think they're superior to every nations. Italians don't say they are superior but every thing what is italian and everything in Italy just simply the best. Russians, ukrainians, serbians etc. all of them think they are the best, superior and only true slavic nation. Hungarians think they are the chosen nation(they are germanic/slavic, mainly slavic misxtures but they think they are something else). Romanians think they are more latin than the italians(through they are slavic/balkanian/turkish mixtures.) Asia is no different. Chinese look down on every nation and all neighboring nations hate China. Iranians think they persians are destined to rule if notthe whole world but the east at least. Turkish people like: yeah dostum we are muslim brothers but don't forget i am a big F superior and conqueror OTTOMAN! Black people in th US and even in Africa probably the most racist people in the world. I've met some lovely US blokes, in general I find the blokes are a lot more accepting and nowhere near as bigoted as the women - I know it's probably not true over all but of those I've MET it is, possibly because they are mainly in the military or airline pilots/staff. They are also generally not fat, definitely athletic and keep their opinions to themselves. m any of the women on the other hand don't keep their opinions to themselves, think that we should still be living in the 1800s (I should add this is rural Ireland) with the carts, dirt tracks etc, that ANY belief not fitting in with their largely Bible belt mentality/beliefs is the work of the devil - and one group actually stole and destroyed items belonging to their host because he dared to be a 'pagan', he lectured in Norse mythology at Stockholm university and made Norse themed jewellery for a living and his imagery was apparently the work of the devil (he was from the US south and I fully understood why he refused to return to the US after that). They also tend to be very critical of the women here and think we are less than them - no idea why and I'm not going to ask - while they also think Ireland is backwards, can't speak Irish properly (apparently we should pronounce words/names as they are pronounced in the US rather than the way they are pronounced in Irish) and no different to the country their alleged ancestors left a couple of hundred years ago. It is actually interesting looking at the differences (another is that those US women who hold those beliefs often can't settle and return to the US, the US women who are the direct opposite settle, fit in and stay here) but on the whole I definitely prefer the male of the species.

No it's not, the US is tiny when compared to China and India and even small compared to Europe yet people always generalize them. The US is extremely culturally homogenous country, even if it is ethnically diverse. Only IF you count in (which most don't) Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Inuites and Native Americans into the mix, does it have significant cultural diversity, but those are almost never considered a part of the discussion when talking about the US culture, but treated as separate ones. Since they are pretty much completely segregated China for example has 56 recognized official distinct ethnicities (this doesn't even include the usual ones like European, African, US, Japanese, Korean etc) that the West just labels as Chinese. China has twice as many minorities as the whole US population! Please keep some perspective when generalizing on global scale

Other countries are maybe more diverse, I'm not disputing that, but the diversity in the US is quite big. Some states allow guns, some other not, some people are taught the "creation", others "evolution"... I mean, even if you move state, apparently you need to exchange your driving license? Having visited US several times, I would not say that they are "feminine" neither do I think you could generalize it as such. You could say some states are more feminine than others, as much as someone would say certain European countries are more feminine than others. It also depends how the person defines femininity, as some would consider liberal values to be a feminine ideology, while others don't, it's all a spectrum the end of the day.

No, people are fine with talking bad about Americans because Americans are most notorious for bragging and showing off. You don't typically try to bring the quiet kid in class down a notch. You do it with the annoying one that constantly brags about stuff that most of the time isn't even true. And Americans are also extremely bad at accepting when other countries are excelling at stuff. As a European all you have to say these days is "wow, you guys really don't use a lot of public transportation, do you?" and that can make a lot of Americans think you're a smug European trying to talk them down - complete lack of self awareness, because it's usually them who act pretty arrogant about their country often in ways they don't even understand ("this wouldn't work here - America is so different from the rest of the world - we're pretty unique!")

🇺🇸I watched a lot of videos on this topic of comparing American to European men and I can say that everybody agreed on American men beeing more gentlemen, like picking up the woman at home for a date, bringing flowers, holding doors open for her, paying at the restaurant… The whole chivalry thing. Nobody statet that American men are less manly. And even if they are more connected to their emotions… Isn‘t it exactly that what we women always complain about, if a man is not?! So that’s great, I think. From my personal experience with an American man I can tell, that I never met a European (especially German) guy, who was that passionate, caring and lovingly. And he is so masculine that it blows my mind every time, I see him.

As a European who has dated North American women, my experience has been that even just listening to them blows them completely away. I've been told more than once that I've raised their dating standards simply based on having a normal conversation and not making everything about job, money and bragging. The same kind of bragging I see in your comment btw. The complete opposite of what you said basically. I'm Austrian. Don't know if that's close enough to being German but I've regularly been called more (com)passionate and loving and still am in my current relationship.

Britsh comedy often revolves around the idea that it's ok to "punch up" but bad form to "punch down". So making fun of the privileged is encouraged, but making fun of people struggling never is. Unfortunately for you, Americans pretty much take top spot in punching up. We're overwhelmed by American media, your news ends up on our TV screens because your current status in the world means that it's important to us no matter how little we care, etc. So that, combined with the fact that Americans make it so easy to take jabs at, means you're always likely to meet a bit of hostility, even though most of it will be good natured. If it makes you feel better, England is generally pretty high up on the list too, so we get it from elsewhere (Scotland included).

I doubt that. Traveling or moving from one European country to another will generally give you less of a culture shock than moving to the USA, I would assume. That should be an indication of similarity, no?

American guys, remember this : The British SAS are very well represented by Scottish blokes. So there`s going to some fierce competition in impressing a Scottish lass. As I was growing up ( in Lincolnshire, England ) whenever I heard an American accent I felt very pleased that my neck of the woods was a pleasing and pleasant enough place as to catch the attention of someone from so far away. This was in the `60,s and `70,s - when of course the `States were much farther away from the UK than they are today. Ps, is that a Dr Who telephone box in the background of the three girls standing - or just a normal police phone box up there in Scotland ? As likely as not when they refer to English being their first language in preference they mean an ability to be fluent.

On behalf of the whole continent of Europe i would like to state the fact that you refer to us all as Europeans shows the utter ignorance and complete disrespect of the whole of America. We are not one people, we are many countries, with many languages and many different histories and lineage. A nice start would be to change the title of this video as the Scottish are proud to be Scots, they tend to be upset when you refer to them as Europeans and strip them of heritage, grouping them together with a 3rd of the world because they are certainly not the same in anyway shape or form.

The US education system is on average 2 years behind most of Europe. Plenty of Americans think "Europe" is a country and that "Paris" is in England. Some Americans think that Australia is in Europe... despite the fact that the USA is far closer to Europe than Australia is. Plenty of Americans think that Texas is the largest state by land mass, when actually it's Alaska, and plenty of them can't tell the time from an analogue wrist watch or use 24 hour clocks... of course they aren't ALL like this, but that's a summisation.

@@Inks_Inspirations As I understand, Miami is the most "diverse" place in the world... but that doesn't mean a lot when you treat anyone who is of colour or from a different nation very differently, with suspicion and discriminate against them. Just look at how American white homeowners are quick to shoot black young boys knocking on their door for help... or shoot a japanese student knocking on their door, where they even admitted themselves they were more suspicious of the person because in the lighting conditions he appeared "dark skinned".... Imagine being more likely to be shot and killed if you are japanese or black for knocking on someone's door asking for help or going to the wrong address by mistake. Americans want to criticise Europe and other places but don't like it when people criticise their manic obssession with guns and being able to execute each other with little to no justification. For such a "brave" country many Americans do come across as wimps. They will happily shoot anyone dead who breaks into their house because they are "terrified". They will shoot anyone who knocks on their door they don't know, because they are suspicious and afraid they might be a burglar... By their logic I should shoot someone who lives on my road who knocks on my door that i've never seen before...

America is NOT a continent under the continental scheme used by most English speaking countries. America is a short form for United States of America. It is contained within the North American CONTINENT. There is no American continent under this scheme and North Americans refer to the country of the United States of America as America. Canadians would be quite offended if you referred to them as American, even if you meant it in a continental sense.
