By just attending (as a competitor) you can factually say that you've represented your country in a world championship event. That's a pretty nice reward by itself.

To me it also looked the wife was extra happy with the beaver smacking, so extra reward must a wife in a better “mood”. Makes me wonder who actually took the initiative to make it into a race.

I can particularly see the prize being figured out that way. "But my wife is way more fat, that ain't fair." "Ooh, but what about IF you win, you win MORE?" "Like... my wife's weight in something?" "Hmmm.. Beer!" "Kippis!"

Estonian have won this even 10 times in row, i was actually happy, that Lithuania and Russia won this even atlest once. otherwise its Finnish Estonian dominance there. And actually you dont need big weight difference. Estonia couple who won most they had 16kg weight difference.

Estonian carry is most effective carry method, but most useful will be if Man can keep his hands free and woman can lock his leg under man's jaw line. To do that its most sense if woman dont crip the man body and instead but her hands in man back and pushes herself foward, and it expects that woman has little strength in her hands.

Military here is not active combat service. It's about defending the country and preparing - we have one, umm, volatile and big neighbour. So, it's seen as OK. Also, we tend to overdo our introvercy and quietness a bit. We have no smalltalk and we're direct, but not blunt or rude. We just sometimes embrace the silence and camaraderie without speaking. We still appreciate company and friends and are generally friendly - although very talkative foreigners may be seen like an over-eager puppy until we get used to it (and they get used to more Silent Finns). Come and visit!

Of course it's World Championship. D'oh! It's much more grandiose that way. It's one thing that these small local competitions and sports get worldwide media coverage and that people travel from far to take part in them, but the striking thing is that they have become internationally held. E.g. Wife carrying competitions are held E.g. in the UK, the US and in Australia. There's a similar good video about the UK competition, as the one you watched: "We tried Wife Carrying the UK'S weirdest sport". Truly brutal stuff. Of course they are just held on a national level, because the World Championships are held in Finland. If wife carrying seems like a sport for you, there are also other similar sports/competitions to dug into, like: Hobby Horse, Swamp Soccer World Championship, Air Guitar World Championships and my personal favorite Summer Ice Fishing. I don't know if Mölkky World Championship and Nordic Walking World Championship can be added to the list or if they are just serious competitive sports, but they are gaining popularity around the world. Then there are such sports and competitions, which are just too ridiculous to even mention.

Just a point, not important with 250 meters, important "obstacle course". Really asking your husband about participating in the event is of crucial importance... Regarding the commentary, competitors getting out of breath reaching the first obstacle was commented on as was specifically the American couple putting in the energy of filming themselves midst the competition (compliment, doing anything extra is clearly welcomed) and returning competitors get more comments like recap of previous archivements 🇫🇮 Or you could try another competition like booththrowing World Championship, European size 43 for gents, size 38 for ladies kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4iwaKVugbGcmbs

If you plan on visiting Finland, and I really hope you do, I have to give you a fair warning... Google translate doesn't do Finnish well. Just speak English. Most Finns under the age of 50 can hold a conversation in English when it comes to general vocabulary. Any specialized tips in wife carrying might be lost in translation though :)

That is actually serious sports to some people. You don't even need to be a couple in real life, you can compete with any teammate. The higher the price, "wife's" weight in beer, the harder it is to win. So. people have very different tactics.
