Sure, but that one is only really funny when you know about the back story. The comedy is more in the back story than in the song itself, so it won't really seem that comedic if you don't know what it's about. If I recall, the Ylvis brothers ran an episode of "I Kveld Med Ylvis" on Norwegian politician Jan Egeland's birthday, and later got a hate comment from one of their viewers for not acknowledging Jan Egeland in their episode. So Ylvis decided to take that frankly ridiculous hate comment and acknowledge it by creating a song that was just as ridiculous as the hate comment itself.

Ylvis has a way of reminding me of his comedy and songs. We also have Kristian Valen who used to do a funny bit where he imitated the singers and put a new twist to the songs. For instance he imitated Creed and changed their song "With arms wide open" to "My mom's wide open" and it's hilarious! Kristian Valen is a very talented impersonator and singer respectively, and funny as hell.

@cecilie19912 ай бұрын
I love Stonehenge. It's such a good song song. Vegard has such a soothing voice, and it's funny as hell. And don't worry, you're not the only one cracking up at the whole: high - Technology - day thing. There are a couple of reasons why they could get away with saying B*lls in the song. One is that in Norway it's not as frowned upon to say curse words. This song aired on their talkshow in 2011, so it was played on the TV. Another reason is also that since english isn't their or their audiences first langueage, those words lose some of their crass-ness for us. I hope that made sense. I'm personally half norwegian and danish, and lived my first ten years of life in Norway, but personally I like to listen to english, norwegian and danish music. I do have one russian song on my playlist though, which incidentially was also made by Ylvis. If you ever feel like you have an hour to kill I'd definitely reccomend checking out their miniseries here on youtube *Big in Kirgisistan* Another great Ylvis song to listen to would be *The Cabin* since that one makes fun of the norwegian cabin culture. That one is great fun. Another one that is about something norwegian specifically is *Jan Egeland* which is about a norwegian politician and human rights activist. And if you want to listen to some songs from Ylvis in norwegian then *Jeg heter Finn*, *Da vet du det er jul* and *Sammen finner vi frem* are all good picks and have subtitles so you can listen to them. My personal favourite Ylvis song though is *Ferjao* which I have been unable to find the full music video with subtitles, but there is one version of it with subtitles, but it's broken up with talking in the middle of the video about the production of the music video. I would also love for some more reactions to "Kongen befaler" *Atle ler af Siris elendige forsøg* is a good one. I really enjoyed your reaction and can't wait to see more from you

Music with English lyrics are the most popular music in Norway. Norwegian lyrics are increasing in popularity. We have of course heard of Weird Al. American pop culture in general is very popular here in Norway. Most Norwegians will have an opinion on US politics, follow big happenings, like the Oscars. Watch things like talk shows. All popular TV-shows and movies are big in Norway too. All big artists are high on our lists as well. We are very US influenced. Most young Norwegians speak extremely good English these days. To a degree you wouldn't even believe. And even our elder speaks English, with a few exceptions. The Ylvis brothers are very popular here. They are quite funny, and very good at making entertainment. Very impressive at improvising humor and music.

Ylvis made a series some years ago called stories from norway. They are about 20-30minutes long and are basically musicals based on real events. My favorites are the one about the 7 mill divingboard of Hamar and the one about the time some scientists on svalbard almost started a worldwide nuclear war. I was happy to see they are available on youtube😅 Oh no! They don't have english subtitles. 😢 All the songs are in english, but the interviews and the backgroud stories are in norwegian.
@In_my_own_mind2 ай бұрын
Their songs are made with totally random topics in different musical genres, which is part of the humour/comedy. Their style usually involves playful absurdity and controversial words are part of it. You should react to their song «Massachussetts». A tribute to the state 😉 They celebrate the state, but it also includes elements that could be interpreted as mocking or tone-deaf to local sensibilities. «Massachusetts" reflects Ylvis's distinctive comedic approach, blending local pride with an outsider's perspective, which has led to both appreciation and criticism from audiences in the state and beyond 😂 Ps! Massachusetts was the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage. Thats why they have so many «gay» references throughout the song. 😉

Many Norwegian artists sing in English purely out of preference. Pretty much all of their other stuff includes at least one or two lines of "colorful" language and/or content. Many are chock-full of it! So yeah- if all you know is "The Fox," you're going to be surprised. That being said, I LOVE all of their other stuff! If language and suggestive lyrics do not bother you, you should fully enjoy their whole catalog! Every time I think I have a favorite, I remember another one, and I can't pick just one favorite. Scandinavian Pop groups and single artists generally sing mostly in English, so they can reach a much larger (Worldwide) audience, rather than just a few countries with small populations. They ALL speak, understand, and read English so well that it is easier for Icelanders, Swedes, and Norwegians to speak English with Danes, as the latter's spoken lanjguage is so difficult to understand. I lived in Denmark for parts of 15 years, and studied Danish, and could read it fairly well, but it was always easier for me to understand spoken Norwegian and even Swedish, than spoken Danish. And Icelandic is like Old Norse, so it is very difficult to understand more than a few words per sentence.

Most artists in Norway sing in English, but there's some that sings in Norwegian and the songs is actually with a lot of lets say adult content, but a lot of kids listen to the song without knowing what they sing about and it's so funny when a three year old sings about taking a drink. We have this word for a drink that means two things, and it can mean both a branch stick or a drink, but the kids only think of sticks, so it's fine for them to listen to this song, but some of the songs is far worse and kids would be told not to sing the song outside the home so people don't call the child protection services. I think it's the same in Sweden they also have songs in Swedish that should not be sung by a small kid outside the home. Swedish music is most often in English but the dancebands sings in Swedish. It's not the same as dance music though, it's it's own genre. Most movies we watch would also be in English if it's not like a good candidate for the Academy award, those films is always in Norwegian or with Norwegians trying to speak English, and the film is always like 8 hours long and about nothing, so we prefer American movies or maybe English or Australian. I don't think I have seen a Canadian film before, but I'm sure they do exist.

Norwegians learn english at a very young age, and we don't dub anything except childrens movies, so you will be having trouble finding a norwegian less than 50/40 that doesn't understand english. We are definitly a part of western cultures with movirs and music moving across borders, and english is the preferred language, even though a lot of us know a third language. Norwegian bands are varied, some sing in english, some in norwegian, some in new-norwegian, some kn heavy dialect (we have more than 400 of them), some in sámi, and some in old norse. And most of us (I think as most americans) listen to whatever we fancy, no matter the language. From the top of my head my collection include norwegian of all kinds, finnish, swedish, polish, german, italian, indian, russian, ukranian, thai, japanese, english, spanish, portugese, korean, chinese, and taiwanese...

Like 95 % of Norway understand English, with only some of the older and younger demographic not being able to understand and speak english. Of course, many has problems speaking English, as we don't often do it. I would say about a 75 % will speak english fluently after a few days If they were to move to the UK or the US . Some 15 to 20% might take a month to be comfortable ! So there is really no difference for their fans If it is in English or Norwegian, and English is understood world wide. With this, doing some song and skits ain't really a problem, just a benefit!

Fun fact: Stonehenge does not fit under the definition of a henge, even if it actually is the origin of the word. :P
