It's not rediculous, in a true democracy, you cannot give the leader of the executive, also the power of being the head of state. @@davide.8758depends on what you are used too, most of the world would not agree that imperial units are convenient for anything, just because most people around the globe are not used to them. Also when it comes to things like height, usually everyone is familiar with its own height, and somewhat the local average height, which for example even across Europe varies a lot. Here in Germany y, og you tell someone yeah that guy is about 180 cm, about everyone has an idea. If you tell anyone 6 foot? PFF, no plan. Some may somewhat remember that a foot is about 30 cm and do the calculation, but otherwise it's meaningless. And this is also valid in both directions. Also around here, usually cm are used for height without any digits after the decimal point (which here happens to be a comma). Only for babies you really use cm and one digit after the decimal point. This is also due to every person shrinking during the day as fluid is pushed out of the joints and especially the discs between the vertebrae, which can already make more than a cm difference between in the morning and in the evening for an adult.

In Metric System: If you are 190 CM means....1900mm (milimeter).....1.9M (meter) or 0.019 KM (kilometer). Of Course, this is not matter, we use the 190cm or 1.9m.
@guillaumesalmon72702 ай бұрын
Regarding height in metric, we use meter as our base unit. So I am 1m75. And we round as well, generally people round to the nearest 5cm (so 0.05m). Regarding the German president, as many people pointed out it's a trick question, no one cares about Germany's president. As a french guy I know Germany's lead by Olaf Schultz. But he's chancellor (that's german for prime minister) not president, and I had no clue about the president before watching this video and will forget his name within the next 30 minutes (IDK what that is in imperial). (Edit: I'd love to see European people being quizzed on US geography. Being a big nerd I'm able to place all 50 states and am pretty good at world geography outside of the Caribbeans and Oceania's islands, but I'm the odd one there, most people can't even place all euro states on a map)

Actually, in the morning people are a whole cm taller, then at night. So there is no point in being more precise then 1 cm. (This is because the gel filled disks in between your vertebrae get squished during the day and spring back when you lay down at night)

We use a mixture for height. I’d say about 70% of the time we use metric, but it’s not uncommon to hear “I’m 6’1” etc.

We usually use whole centimetres for our height. It's hard to measure it with much more precision than that anyway. Nobody days they are 189.1 cm.

When it comes to height in metric, we don't really care about half a centimetre and round to the nearest one.

Hello from Australia. About height measures. British Empire, hence Australia, measured height of horses to the withers (top of shoulders) in hands, width of hand. One hand = 4 inches. Except Shetland ponies measured in inches. Bigger ponies for example (written) 13.2 hands, said as thirteen two hands, means thirteen and a half hands not thirteen point two hands (although I have heard an American say " .. point two") European horses measured in centimetres and this is catching on here. Are American engines still measured in horsepower? Isn't history interesting?.

We use even numbers for convinience. 6'3" would just be 191, which is the hight of my ex. Technically I'd be 163,5 (5'4ish) but I only go by 163 if anyone one asks. The .5 is more important for children. There's no .4, .76 or any other random number, it's .5 or not at all.

In Germany we use cm (centimeters) as long as something or someone is smaller than 1 m (meter), e.g. 0.89 m (2' 11") = 89 cm = 89 centimeters. If something or someone is taller than 1 meter we use meter and centimeter, e.g. 1.73 m (5' 8") = 1 meter 73, but then we don't say "centimeter" afterwards.

for height we usually use Meter... so I'm a lot smaller than you, I'm 1.73m "tall" the cool thing about the metric system is you can change the units without calculating. 1.73m = 173 cm because centi is a hundreth of something so one centimeter is a hundreth of a meter. So even if I compare the height in meters, me 1.73m and you 1.90m I can see instant, that you are 17cm taller than me..... As a german engineer I can tell you, it's sooooooooooooooo much easier to do physical calculations, if you can switch between units without calculating. I don't understand why americans keep the imperial system. Even the british, who invented the imperial system, switched to metric decades ago.....
@nieksalomons2 ай бұрын
With saying your height, nobody talks about half centimeters. We round it up too, only in cm not foot and inches. Also we don't really use the measurement of decimeters (which is 10cm), we talk about meters (100cm) and centimeters or centimeters alone. So in America, you do use the foot, but if were to talk about your height only in inches, it would resemble how we measure. My height is 207cm, so I say I am twohunderdseven cm, or I am 2 meter 7. That's 207 centimeters = 2.07 meters 81.496063 inches 6.791339 feet 6 feet and 9.496063 inches I got this from this nifty converting website I use for all of the American measurement translations, I use it a lot.
