The whole "grogodil streicheln" meme originated from another meme where pepe pets a cat, in German: Katze. But the K was replaced with a "G", turning the word into "Gatze". The same has been done with Krokodil --> Grogodil. I think it's similar to English "baby talk" where "love" becomes "wuv".

It actually comes from Pepe the frog petting a cat with baby talk as a caption. „Gadse streicheln“ (the actual joke is that when you see a cat you want to pet it, so kinda like a reflex) here he’s petting a crocodile. So „Grogodil streicheln“ and to make it funny he lost an arm because that’s obviously what would happen.

The joke in "Grogodil" is that in German dialect and slang the "G" replaces a lot of letters, the list of letters that replace the "G" is longer than the list of words where the "G" replaces another one depending on where the "G" is in the word it has the following emphasis "J, CH, H, in foreign words from French the last becomes ." The city of "Chemnitz" has a special position. Here the Düsseldorfer is happy to be able to show his openness towards other tribes as well as his excellent geographical and historical knowledge and to shine with his good education. And so he pronounces a clear "G" in "Garl-Marx-Stadt" with obvious pleasure.

The exterior insulation of my rented apartment was redone 10 years ago, but the crap windows from the 80s stayed in and in the living room I have condensation on the windows and therefore I have to ventilate intensively three times a day, which in turn transports the warm air out of the apartment and I have to heat just as much as with the old insulation. Yay. And in summer I'm literally roasted in the apartment because there are no thermal windows installed, so the apartment heats up like crazy through the huge windows. That's German logic!

For what it's worth, you *want* the windows to be less insulated than the walls so water condenses on them and not in some corner where you don't notice it and that is more prone to mold. Of course, there's a bit of a difference between "less" and "not at all".

A 'Wickie' reaction would be cool. The series was a Austrian-German-Japanese Co-production, that's why the Japanese title is listed in the lede. It's a show for kids, but it has a very nice animé artstyle with heavy western influence (a little bit like Hägar the Horrible) and some endearing characters. I don't remember that much, though, having watched it as a kid, myself.

Then it struck me... omg, US-Americans still don't have proper IDs (and those who don't travel abroad won't have a _Reisepass_ a passport, either)! Are they still using any shitty piece of paper or plastic card, like a driver's license they have to renew every couple year for money or their taxpayer number or whatever, instead of a government ID (which in Germany contains a microchip and is secured against forgery the same way as German paper money (formerly Deutsche Mark and these days Euro). No wonder they have to _register_ themselves to be able to vote in elections, every time.

German houses commonly have double-glazed or triple-glazed isolated windows and walls, especially these days with the new regulations about upgrading houses to lower energy use needed for heating or cooling. There is still a difference between "Lichtbildausweis" (ID with picture) and amtlicher Ausweis (goverment-issued ID; only Personalausweis or Reisepass). As everyone can issue their own Lichtbildausweis, you can have lot's of fun with bureaucrats, if they missed that detail in their terms. :D

If you have your ID card in your wallet, and you have a passport, your passport usually does not fit inside of your wallet, so you could have it somewhere at home, and bring it for identification. Or you have the ID app installed and verified. With that you also can identify yourself nowadays. Hopefully your phone was not in the same pants as your wallet when you lost it. 😉

That meme about the lost wallet and the id is only so funny, because every German can imagine that this is very likely how this is going to go if you get to the lost and found... Some people working there are so nuts in identifying the rightful owner, that listing everything in there up to the last penny does not count if you just missed some dust and crumbs... No honestly, in most cases they would be fine to look at an id in the wallet, in such cases they may even try to contact you about your wallet being found. But still, it is not of the table. Just some info regarding ids in Germany, from age 16 it is mandatory to have at least one of either an ID Card ("Personalausweis"), or a Passport ("Reisepass"). Most people get an id card, as it costs less than a passport and it is credit card sized, like the drivers license ans easier to have on you all the time. Which, contrary to common belief, is not even legaly required, You have to have some sort of id, but you don´t have to carry it all the time. Although, in case you get controlled by the police or whatever reason, especially while driving, it is absolutely recommended to have it with you, as it makes things a lot easier and quicker. You may have both if you are travelling outside the schengen area. I think in the last years a lot of people got a bad surprise, especially the first years, when after brexit the ID card no longer was sufficient and a passport was needed. I have seen dramatic scenes in terminals when travellers were denied boarding for not having passports. Bad preparation I would say. Our drivers license, while having a photo on it, does not count as an official identification document here and an additional id is required to verify identity. In "not official" circumstances, that might be a lost and found, that might be entering a club with age restrictions, that might be you identifying when picking up something in a store you purchased online, they may accept any somewhat official document with your name and a picture on it as well, like the drivers license or the health insurance card. But that is completely up to them. I think I heard in the US some states recently started offering something like ID cards as well, usually in combination with the drivers license document as one, but also separate ones, in case someone dose not have a drivers license.
