The equivalent of The Foreign And Commonwealth Office in the US is The State Department, so our Foreign Secretary is the same as your Secretary of State (however all of our Departments of State or Government Ministries are headed by a Secretary of State!)

It is relevant to today because the elite system does not want to change . Outside forces can change policy somewhat such as the invention of nuclear weapons and the reliance of fossil fuels. But the "system" basically stays the same. We are living through strange times with huge problems with the price of the utilities and i have never seen such mistrust of the political system and authority as today in both Britain and America as well as much of Europe.
@thetruthhurts76752 жыл бұрын
LOL. What are you on about here? We as in the UK have nothing to do with the EU, we left three years ago. EU rules, and laws do not mean anything here, as the EU having it's many tantrums constantly finds out. You have never seen such mistrust of the political system? Honestly are you for realhere? Especially the American system which honestly isn't democracy at all.

It is very funny even more so for being not far, if at all, from the truth. The former French President General de Gaul, did not want ze inglish to join his little club. In fact he vetoed our membership three times which made the British more determined for the very reason that we didn't want France to dominant Europe in a Napoleonic way. Also note that West Germany was in no position to do anything.

Britain's 500 year old policy objective of preventing hegemony in Europe, has served Europe and Britain well. If it wasn't for that, no one would have stood up successfully to the Nazis, Napoleon, Louis XVII and Louis XIV, and before that Philip II of Spain. Consequently, there would be no small countries left in Europe, especially Belgium, created by the British as a buffer zone against French ambitions in the Netherlands. Count your blessings that Europe now only faces a peacetime take over by Germany, disguised as the EU..........
