No matter how complicated the roundabouts look from the air, they are very simple to negotiate on the ground. You simply follow the signs that relate to you and ignore everything else. The designers do all the hard work; the driver just follows a single clearly laid out path. In the unlikely event that you miss an exit, you simply drive around until you reach it again, a few seconds delay at most. The greatest obstacle Americans have is overcoming the fear that it is complicated, it is very simple in reality.
@siriussolaris14992 жыл бұрын
I don't get it.... Eating rubbish (fastfood) when you drive is doubly dangerous to your health squared next to the distraction from traffic and the others who are all not looking at the road but at your phones or what to eat or whatever do. take a seat and enjoy your meal - it is esential for your life. do you eat when you are in the shower? or at a patient at work? or when you sleep? eat when you eat - drive when you drive ... focus on the main thing you do in just that time. life gets better. believe me.

It is, in fact, allowed to be eating while driving in Germany. If eating distracts you, it's verboten. Foods that require both hands are also not allowed. You can drink beer while driving, as long as your blood alcohol level stays below 0.05%. But even below that level, if you get into an accident, you might be partly liable. So: Never drink and drive!

Hey, those 4 Leaf Clover Highway intersections are awesome actually.They are in a way the Roundabouts of Highway construction. Just think about it, you can follow the loops around indefinitely if you wanted to and get onto any direction of any highway just by staying in one lane. No hassle with looking for the right lane to get to where you want to go. Loops are great for keeping traffic flowing. If you miss an exit, you have like whatever Minutes until you can double back and get to the correct lane. If you just have to follow a loop and get off on the right exit you can always just go around and try again almost immediately.
@richardhargrave60822 жыл бұрын
Four way intersection is slower because you stop, on a roundabout you can merge in to the traffic flow without stopping. Getting stuck on a roundabout just doesn't happen, you may go around once or twice if you miss the exit, but that's it. Another thing, the sign posting at junctions is rubbish compared to Europe

A roundabout is designed that you continuously doing _something_ . One advantage of that is you don't notice the time elapsing because you're focusing on the task. Bit like a supermarket self check out in that respect. My biggest thought on the matter is: Why do the self assertive Americans pick the system where someone tells what to do as opposed to one where they decide for themselves?
@whattiler5102 Жыл бұрын
If you miss your exit then you just go round again and then take it. On any given roundabout you are only going to do that once; like anything in life you get better with repetition. All you have to do when you wish to enter a roundabout is give way ('yield') to cars coming from your right, then match your speed to the other cars. It is much safer than the risk of a looney hitting you side on at speed.

Hello. I live in a small village and we have loads of roundabouts around the village on the main roads. One which is junction of two very busy roads have traffic lights as well. Inside the village there are two mini-roundabouts at T-junctions. These are just a white spot about two foot in diameter with loads of markings of white lines and directional arrows, one had traffic lights but because a by-pass was built the roads are quieter so they act to slow traffic and give all drivers a fair and safer chance of turning or going straight ahead,

France is the queen of roundabouts, they have 967 per one million inhabitants. For the Spain, the UK and Italy that number between about 400 and 600. The U.S. in contrast has only 73 roundabouts per one million inhabitants. Using a different measure, the ratio between the total number of intersections and the number of roundabouts, France is still on top with 1 in 81 intersections being a roundabout. In Spain follows closely with 1 in 82, Italy and the British Isles are at about a bit above 100. In the U.S. this number is 1 in 636. Sources: “Going Round in Circles? Although we give way to the right in the UK and it's not always necessary to come to a halt, it is also normal to stop before entering a roundabout if there is oncoming traffic. Many big roundabouts also have traffic lights so everyone takes their turn. As far as missing your exit is concerned there are generally clear lane markings/signs so that a drivers can choose the route they need on the approach but if that's not the case and you're not sure you can just stay on the inside lane and drive round the roundabout giving you the opportunity to check and then circle round again once you know the exit lane you need at which time you need to indicate clearly as you move across into your desired exit lane!
