♥ My British husband said that he wasn't taught about the American Revolution in school, which I found odd since, essentially, the American Revolution was a British civil war. You can't go wrong with any Oversimplified video, but I enjoy the Civil War, World War II, Prohibition, the French Revolution ... oh, hell, just do them all. 🤣

I believe the curriculum in Great Britain only teaches the more recent Falklands War and both World Wars with a much larger emphasis on WW2. In numerous conversations with a British friend from college he'd always smirked at me and say, "Did you really expect The Crown to teach things like this? We only learned about the wars we've won." It was intriguing as a Midwestern American who definitely got taught about the Vietnam and Korean Wars from middle school through graduation. It gave me a good laugh every time he said it though.

Even today if someone calls you Benedict Arnold or even just Benedict, they are calling you a traitor.

The Pig War over simplified is hilarious. I watched it yesterday & laughed til I had tears. I’m American & had never heard of this War until I found this on another’s reaction channel. This almost war was over deciding America & Canada border.

I'm always astounded at how close America was to never existing. I think history is written by the winners, but the clip seemed to show the mistakes on both sides farely.

America existed from the time that Christopher Columbus supposedly discovered it, but it was named after the Italian Amerigo OK my computer won't print his last name Yep Prince Drew Brees see what I mean. unfortunately, what you were trying to say is the United States nearly never existed the official name was given as the United States of America the only free and sovereign nation on the continent. now there are 35 American countries. Although the other countries don't have America in their name actuality since they are all American countries. Just like Countries in Europe are European countries, countries in Africa are African countries, countries in Asia are Asian countries. a few countries are Canada of America, Greenland of America, Mexico of America, Haiti of America, even Cuba of America. it is an American country. There is some stupidity on this continent. the British call the United States America they call the continents the Americas. the Canadians somehow think they're not Americans. but they haven't managed to detach Canada from North America yet. maybe Italy will disconnect from Europe and say they're not Europeans. the north pole is the northern tip of north America and the cape of good hope is the tip of South America

The Spanish arrived in Florida in 1513 and in California in 1542. The French established a territory in 1534. The British colonists arrived in the Mayflower in Massachusetts in 1620. France sold their territory to the United States in 1803 for equivalent of $15 million. It covered from New Orleans to Montana including: Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma. eastern Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, eastern Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Montana, So. and No. Dakota, and western Minnesota. This is the Louisiana Purchase.

I think its good to stress that it wasn't about the taxes, but rather how difficult the british rule - mainly the king - was making it for the colonies to govern themselves. The government couldn't do anything, and the governors that the king himself appointed were unable to perform their duties. The taxes were just a part of impediment. The colonies, as they saw themselves as british, sued for equality and rights as british citizens for years, before resorting to independence. The beautiful thing about the declaration of independence is how it was created with the ability to solve problems like slavery and womens rights, etc. It's also good to note that a minor faction of the british parliament sided with the colonists but didn't have enough weight to push against the majority.

Oh you're in for a treat mate. Every single Oversimplified video is done in this exact same rapid fire dad joke format. The animations are the same, the pacing is the same. It appears all that's ever changed is the subject and length of the video. It feels like they've covered every significant war/uprising/revolt since the fall of the Mongol Empire.

I love hearing Lin-Manuel Miranda talk about how he couldn’t fit in Benedict Arnold’s treason into Hamilton. The way he explains it, the morning after Arnold met with John Andre and handed over the plans to West Point, Washington and Hamilton show up for an unannounced visit. Arnold gets about ten minutes notice and runs for the British lines, and his wife Peggy (daughter of a Loyalist and former object of one John Andre’s affections while the Brits occupied Philly) meets Washington and Hamilton at the front door, clutching her baby to her bare breasts and screaming about how they are there to kill poor innocent her and her baby!! They are speechless at this sight and when they get the full story of her husband’s treachery, they fully buy into her ploy and let her go free. Of course, it’s pretty much accepted now that she was the one who organized the handoff to her former suitor.

We asked the french for help because an enemy of my enemy is my friend. during the Americans civil war England supported the South. Building ships. France still helping the north in civil war. And somehow after all the wars we did at each other we became friends. 🙄😉😆 Isaac Hull was captain of the USS Constitution aka old Iron side 1812 that ship still exist today. The English told John Paul Jones to surrender he replies I have not yet begun to fight. 🇺🇸 After the war you can keep Benedict Arnold as a souvenir your welcome 😆😜 the Revolutionary war was George Washington vs King George III our George won. 😁
