DUUUUUUUDE, I'm so glad you did it ! Thanks for this. Man, you're good at guessing what the lyrics are about without understanding a word of French. It's totally that, he's talking about his life and his career choices. He's faced a lot of polemics and controversies in France at the beginning of his career, but he's never changed who he is. Didn''t know your channel. Good pick on Orelsan. I wasn't a fan eraly in his career, but now that I'm older I kinda rediscover him. What I like is that he is not trying to fit in, or proove anything to anyone. He's doing his thing, speaking some real truth. BTW many people explained what PMU is (basically a pub where you can gamble and play lottery), but what he means is that in those pubs there are many "know better" people that critisize and speak about a subject without really knowing what they ar etakling about.

Love the video ! Just want to add some points because I think some lyrics may have lose their meaning in a too literal translation: "Mes nuits sont blanches et mes idées noires" -> In french, "white nights" means "sleepless night" and "black thoughts" means "dark thoughts" He's making a pun talking about colours to express the fact that he can't sleep and spent the night overthinking. "Vodka, Doliprane, maintenant j'anticipe" -> I don't think you may have this type of medication, but "Doliprane" are currently use for get over an hangover. So, as an adult now, he continue to drink like a teenager but he is forward-looking. "Ablaye et Skread, jvais jamais perdre" -> Ablaye and Skread are the nicknames of his producers since the beginning, Skread is also his composer on a lot of his songs. He tells them "he never gonna loose" and it's sounds like (at least for me) "thanks for believin in me and I never disappointing you" Orelsan are really into asian and japanese culture, so he likes to put some references of it in his work. "Gun-Kata" is a bullet ballet, that we can see in many action movies, especially in John Woo 's ones. As everyone says, he is the french voice of Saitama in the japanese anime "One Punch Man". His stage name is literally a reference to his passion for manga. His first name is Aurélien (AUREL = OREL, same pronouciation) and, SAN (in japanese) is added to a person's name for showing respect to someone older or wiser. As he said "San, means Sir" (and could also means 3). In his first album, one of this song said "Orel for my first name, San for the asian whores". So It's interesting because in this particuliar song, he finish by giving another signification of his stage name. Dunno if I can help with this (very) long comment. Sorry for my poor english too, I always try to improve myself in it. If you want to listen another of his song, should I suggest "Des histoires a raconter" even if It's a duo with his mate Gringe, the song is terrific and the clip too!
@wibauxay3333 жыл бұрын
Another thing about the meaning of the number « 3 » : this song is part of his 3rd solo album (it’s actually the first of the track), he even talk about it « orelsan part 3 le dernier volet de la saga » / « orelsan part 3. The last volume of the saga » just like if it was a trilogy and with this albums he finishes what he started in 2009 with his first album. And I think it’s prête cool.

Doliprane is just a brand for paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen. It's not made for hangover, but for fever and pain (like headache), but it's cheap and easy to get, so it's often used for hangovers. And thanks for this long comment, really important for a better understanding, even if the translation was actually pretty good, I was afraid to have something way more word-to-word.

The also talks about the mistakes of the past ( witch sometimes refer to his old sounds where he was an insolent teenager who didn't care about anything. Sorry for my English i'm french ^^

@leogrelet39283 жыл бұрын
One of my favorite Orelsan songs! For fully understanding the impact it (and the whole album) had when it was released, you need to listen to more of his previous work, where he kept acting like a rebellious teenager, rejecting society ("Suicide social" is a good example), often violently. This 3rd album, "La fête est finie / The party's over", is not necessarily redemption, but more of a brutal realization that time has come to grow up, and not to keep pretending being a teenager ("you think you're Bart, but you're Mr.Burns", he said in this song, talking about himself). Some tracks of the album convey the same message, and other ones even put Orelsan in the role of an adult giving life advice to a teenager like he used to be ("Notes pour trop tard") or appeasing a child who faces dark aspects of the world we live in ("Tout va bien"). There are many more masterpieces in his work, but listening to these songs would at least give you a proper context and make deeper sense. Enjoy!

I don't if someone explained that already, but a PMU is a bar/pub where people (mainly from working-class or jobless) go to have a drink and bet on horse racing or other sports. The common image people have of those bars is quite negative, as a place where conversations are about news or society facts, but where people tend to express their opinion without restrain (for better or worse), and that's what he meant when he said the whole world/society is becoming like this.

So yes PMU : Pub with often drunk people who stand there the whole day and give opinion about the world... You know, people who you wanna say "go home you're drunk" "Night are white but ideas are black". That's because in French we say "White night" when you skip the night and stay awake. In this case it's mostly means that his dark thought keeps him awake. Ablaye & Skread. Skread is his beatmaker and Ablaye his producer. "I'm still writing about a city where I don't live". He talks a lot about Caen. His home city but he lives in Paris now. "I'll keep writing as if Michael could see it". He's a huge fan of Michael Jordan and I think he wanted to be a basket player when he was younger but dropped everything at his first defeat. Something like this. I guess this sentence was to say "Watch me, I didn't drop rap at least"

The "Orelsan" nickname comes from the beginning his real first name (Aurélien Cotentin) and the Japanese neutral suffix "san". BTW, Orelsan might be compared to Eminem for his writing, but on a technical level (even if his solid flow is legit) there are other French rappers like Féfé or Leeroy Kesiah who are way more skilled than him. If you want to listen to other powerful sh!t, check out "Soldat fou" or "Mental Offishall" : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZjLfmOcoLeUis0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGG9hqymatKrZ7s A PMU (Pari Mutuel Urbain : On-Track Betting) is usually a French café where you can also buy cigarettes and play lottery or horse races. It's a place for informal encounters and conversations.

Never been a big fan of rap ,but liked this...don't know if you have listened to BTS, but if you like rap you should check out the Cyphers from their rap line than the translation/explanation videos from either xcelest or DKDV(not sure if I spelled those right). RM,Suga and J-Hope are great
