Well I was hoping there was something my ENT could do on this last visit with him. He said nope. He says only thing to try are those expensive a** cochlear implants. Then it's not guaranteed it'll even help. I am upset, but I'd rather learn ASL and carry on than get the implants. So thank you Bill for being here.

"Going Deaf" is somewhat like going to a new country. The main challenge has to do with the loss or reduction of previous human connections based on sound and speech. Sign language can help provide an alternative to sound and speech. The question becomes, "Which of my friends and family will make this journey with me by learning sign language -- and which will I need to leave behind due to their unwillingness to put forth the effort to learn?" Reducing the effort required to learn sign language helps increase the willingness of people to learn. Thus it becomes important for people who are "going Deaf" to refer their family and social circle to convenient, free, and effective ways to learn sign language.
