Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. You can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here right now and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

If you want an online accredited course program leading toward becoming a certified interpreter you are going to need to hook up with an actual accredited University. See: www.unco.edu/cebs/asl-interpreting/

I've noticed that both you and Katelyn seem to wear black in nearly all your videos together but in later videos with other students, that doesn't seem to be the case (at least with students). Is there a reason for that? Or just a coincidence?
@sign-language6 жыл бұрын
I almost always wear black since I've found it provides the best contrast for my skin and is the easiest to see my signs. I asked Katelyn specifically to wear black for the same reason. Many of the "other" students are literally "walk on" volunteers "that day" and thus they were wearing whatever clothes they had on.

Question: Is it easier to teach younger students over older individuals? I'm 62 and retired last year. I have been learning ASL through your sites. 1. to keep my mind active and 2. for communication. If you ever come to St. Louis it would be a pleasure to meet you.
@sign-language7 жыл бұрын
Younger students tend to do well at picking up languages, sure -- but older students often have a lifetime of "learning strategies" which they can apply to the learning process. I've noticed that certain older students will do excellently in a language class while other older students will not. I feel there are a multitude of factors that influence language learning success. Older students just need to self analyze and figure out what strategies or approaches best meet their individual strengths and life situation.

Languages are living. The more you use them the healthier they get. The more you neglect the faster they fade.

What was the word at 28:49?
@sign-language4 жыл бұрын
The signs a little bit before 28:49 were versions of the concept of "regular." I showed some signs NORMAL / of course / natural APPROPRIATE / regular DAILY / everyday / regular and a version of "FROM-TIME-TO-TIME" modified to mean "happening at regular intervals." Then after 28:49 we discuss the sentence: "Are most farmers strong?"

Sometimes that happens. (The monitor being off center). In some of the early videos I had two cameras (the streaming camera and a high definition camera). These days I try to pay more attention to those types of details (such as where the monitor is).

Bill do you not have diverse selection of students? Just wondering.
@sign-language7 жыл бұрын
Do you live near Sacramento? Are you relaxed in front of a camera and might like to be one of my video assistants? If so, let me know. It would indeed be nice to have more diversity. Main characteristic I seek is a tendency to smile and be “teachable” under the pressure of a video camera aimed at you. Students these days seem much more comfortable in front of the camera than they did when I first started creating these videos.

How do we put caption?
@sign-language6 жыл бұрын
Captioning isn't a priority for me in the development and/or presentation of these lessons. If you feel you need captioning then I would suggest to you that it would be better to either review previous lessons and/or go study the individual lesson vocabulary at my main website: www.lifeprint.com first then watch the lesson video. I totally understand the desire for captioning, on the other hand -- I also feel that the Powerpoint slides provide enough scaffolding for the vast majority of students to catch a sufficient amount of the lesson to make progress. It is those folks who have a strong desire to understand 100% that seem to most want captioning. While I truly do respect that -- I would suggest to you that you think of yourself as a plant being watered. You won't catch all of the water but you can generally catch enough to sustain you.
