Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, if you are in a position to, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL videos (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

I am really enjoying these lessons. However, I can barely read when you are facing the camera (lol) and when you sign to the person next to you, I miss letters and I still don't know what kind of wood you like, but it ended in an "I." :-) Please clarify this mystery.
@sign-language5 жыл бұрын
Hello. When asking questions about specific signed examples in the videos it is best to include the time code. As far as what kind of wood I like, hmmm maybe I was spelling "mahogany" -- I'd have to see it to know for sure and it just isn't a good use of time for me to spend 10 or 20 minutes or whatever trying to track down 3 seconds of video. KZbin tends to automatically convert time format (0:00) into links to the exact location in the video. The sideways viewing of fingerspelling is good for your brain since in the real world we often have to read fingerspelling from the side. If I'm walking on the right side of my wife and she spells something I"m certainly not going to run around to her left side and/or in front of her just to see her spell the word. It is okay (normal) to "miss" letters and "guess." That is a real world skill. Again, it is good for you. Get comfortable with the not knowing and instead focus on inductive reasoning and good old fashioned contextualized guessing. Thus in the real world you will do much better at figuring out conversations via contextual clues.

Hi! I was wondering what the difference was between "pliers" and "milk"?
@sign-language Жыл бұрын
Hello Bailey! To get it right, imagine yourself either milking a cow or using pliers. The "milk sign" is upright and stays in place. The fist opens and closes. The "pliers" sign has a bit more of a twist and tends to involve a bit more of a horizontal orientation during part of the movement -- as if grabbing onto something with pliers and twisting it a bit.

So you know how for a who, why, which , where, or what question how you furrow your eyebrows at the end? Well, for a yes or no question when do you have your eyebrows raised? Does it have to be the whole time or is that why sometimes you repeat the word “you” at the end so that you can raise your eyebrows then?
@sign-language3 жыл бұрын
I'm impressed that it occurred to you that the repeat of "you" at the end is connected to the raising of the eyebrows.
