Germany has a long history of "comedy music"... Songs that are funny, making fun of other people/situations or themselves. We LOVE that. Die Doofen, some songs by die Prinzen, erste allgemeine Verunsicherung, Die Ärzte, Die Toten Hosen, Stefan Raab...and many many more.

Also, it was a bit of a slow burn, coming from nothing and then slowly making its way up. Those kinds of songs rarely can make enough sales in a single week for a #1 spot.

"Die Ärzte" like Phil Collins. 😅 Funny how a short piece of music can make a first impression. They are a Punk/Rock band. And I think there are vids with English subtitles. For the last song google Stefan Raab. I would say he is a kind of James Cordan and a ESC hero (Waddehaddedudeda ESC 2000, Cologne dialect mixed with toddler language) This song was about a chain link fence in Saxon dialect. He found the snippet on one of those TV court shows. For more about him, watch the opening of the ESC final (!) 2011 and Wikipedia.

16:14 Die Ärzte - Ein Schwein namens Männer is a song warning about men and their schemes to get you into bed. It's sung in a happy tune with some clever, funny lyrics that may or may not translate well. The band was starting out as more punk rock but they don't care if a song is fun in another genre. Their name means "The Doctors" and they chose a band name with "'Ä" because at the time there was no other band starting with the Ä (A umlaut, almost an e sound - it's weird). They didn't show the music video because it featured Lara Croft, guess they were afraid of some copyright bs. Look that sh*t up in your own time : )

The last song which you called German American country … well, in this song Stefan Raab made fun of a lady pronouncing Maschendrahtzaun (chain-link fence) in a German dialect (sächsisch). He made fun of her in his own tv show and it was a huge scandal. If I remember correctly he later apologized. Also: Stefan Raab was Mr Eurovision in the 90s and 2000s. You need to check out Wadde-Hadde-dudde-da performed by himself (came in on #5) and Guildo hat euch lieb performed by Guildo Horn und die Orthopädischen Strümpfe (and the Orthopedic Stockings) which was written by Stefan Raab and came in #7 in 1998. He also made a song about legalizing cannabis.

they are legends. The one with the grass jacket is comedien and musician Wigald Boning, I knew him first when I watched the show "Nicht Nachmachen" which means something like do not try to do this, or do not copy us, where he and Bernhard Hoecker destroyed things with fire, experiments, water and explosions in a house, in the first episode, and on a farm in the second episode, even if you do not understand a word you should watch a bit of it, just type, Nicht Nachmachen wogald boning bernhard hoecker. The other singer is Olli Dittrich who has a famous improvised TV show. He is very charismatic and funny and seems quite intelligent as a comedian and human. He also was drummer of a big german country band, which is also in one of this music list videos.

The German music in the 90 was divided mostly between techno music and more comical german language songs and a little bit of german german hiphop at the end of the decade. Stefan Raab belongs also to the comical ones, but he was more, he also created a whole entertainment industry in Germany. He was the worldwide inventor of reacting to tv bits in his later tv show TV Total, even Americans took his concept. In his show many US stars were invited, like 50cent, Kylie Minogue, Eminem, Will Smith, Rhianna, Bruno Mars, Phil Collins and and and... Beside his creative comical songs he was also a real musician and producer, he produced the most succesful songs in the Eurovision acts since the 80s, also the Lena Satellite Song from 2010 and also was an Eurovision act by himself roundabout the year 2000 and ended up on 5th pls ^^

The reason why "I'm a Scatman" didn't pull No.1 was Vangelis. The song topped out at 2 during the reign on "Conquest of Paradise", which charted at 1 because Henry Maske, a German boxer, chose the song as his entrance song for the title defense fight against Iran Barkley in October 1994.

The Guy at the end who topped 8 weeks was a german entertainer who had a late night show called "TV Total" where he showed weird stuff that happened on TV and then created small clips that he could just play by pushing a button during an interview of a guest. He basically created memes before everyone had internet and nearly every german in their youth watched his show and knew the memes. He also had famous guests like Eminem and others. This song was based on one of those memes, it is also sampled in the song. One of his quests was also to win the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany, that he failed as an artist but achieved as a producer later on.

TECHNOHEAD -( I WANNA BE A HIPPIE) was a -British 'Gabber' or 'Happy-Hardcore' duo (Lee Newman & Michael Wells., a married couple) who moved to Amsterdam in the early 90s. In 1995 they scored a big hit with I' wanna be a hippie' in the remix by Dutch producers Flamman & Abraxas. Following the great success, Flamman & Abraxas decided to found the Party Animals: the first members of the group played in the video clip (bald fellas). Several weeks after the mega success of 'I wanna be a hippie' Lee Newman sadly passed away, making this track their only hit in the scene, but undeniable an evergreen and to this day frequently heared at parties throughout the Netherlands,Belgium, the UK and Germany.

The last song... There was a reality court show on TV. It was a rip off from Judge Judy. In Germany it is not allowed to film at court. So they had to to only cases on an arbitration panel which is only for civil law. So it was mostly argues among neighbours and pretty boring. They changed to fictional cases with crimes after the first season. But in the first season with a real argument there was this lady complaining that the "Knallerbsenstrauch" (bang-pea-shrub, it was a common snowberry) destroyed her "Maschendrahtzaun" (chain wire fence). The lady had a very, very thick Saxon accent and Stefan Raab was making fun of her and mocked her in his show on Pro7 like a push button and then a clip will come up when they lady was saying "Knallerbsenstrauch" or "Maschendrahtzaun". He also decided to make a song and make it country style. He did other songs before that were not country. Before he had this show on Pro7 he was a VJ on Viva (German music TV channel) published 4 music albums and was involvend in the wirting and production of songs for other artists like "Sexy Eis" for Bürger Lars Dietrich or the ESC-Song "Guildo hat euch lieb" for Guildo Horn. It was not a banger but at least it got 7th which was still better than most of the other shit we send there. And he casted Lena for the ESC who won the ESC for us.

In the United Kingdom, "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" had the longest unbroken run at number one, spending sixteen consecutive weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart from July 7, 1991, to October 27 when it dropped to number four,[8] surpassing the record 11 weeks set by Slim Whitman's hit single "Rose Marie" in 1955.

I enjoyed this. It intrigues me that songs often spend a long time at #1 in Germany. In the UK it's usually only 2 or 3 weeks (unless you're Bryan Adams).

*.....or Harry Styles....in 2022 he was on the Top spot in the UK Singles Chart with the track "As It Was" for 10 consecutive weeks....but then, thanks to the 4th season of Netflix' "Stranger Things", Kate Bush reached rank No.1 of the UK Singles Chart with her song "Running Up That Hill", meaning Harry Styles' Number 1-streak had an end and Bryan Adams still holds the record for being No.1 of the UK Singles chart for 16 consecutive weeks.* 🎵💿🔥

You could also react to this video with bands/groups/singers that are considered "German": kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5XWqXeXmblrb5o . They either are from Germany, Austria or Switzerland or were founded, produced or based in those countries. This video is about 80's music, same channel has also 90's, 2000's and 2010's music based on this definition.

Scorpions, Snap and many other dance tracks where produced in Germany without even us germans knowing it. Because it was way cooler to us if they were americans, that's how they marketed it.

Sadly, most of the 90s English songs are overrepresented in the charts. After unification, a lot of people who had been starved for Western culture and still believed in the US as the "holy land" were added. It took a while until German-language music recovered ca. 1997.

In Europe we listen to more diverse music, from different countries, not just American - you are not used to it ; ) as a Pole I know a lot of German groups (Die Fantastischen Vier

So much great music! Almost single one 🫶🏻 Very iconic 😊 But maybe it’s just because I was born in ‘87 Everything from the eurodance and the happy hardcore till all the (Brit)pop and r&b/hiphop songs. They don’t make hitsongs like that nowadays But didn’t ‘2 Unlimited’ and ‘2 Brothers on the 4th floor’ have any number 1 hit in Germany? And where is Captain Jack😅

20:09: All German Number 1 Hits Of The 90's does not mean they are all german. Just that that they where at placa 1 for a time. But Wind of Change actually is a german song. The Scorpions are a german band. Fools garden from Lemon Tree is german too, and Mambo Nb.5., You should watch videos like songs you did not know where german, that is where you really get surprised.

a bunch of the songs there may were not performed by German people, but the songs were often produced in German studios or both German people performing and produced in German Studios, and yet singed in English language, because of the bad reputation of the german language since World War One .
