American Staffy Brothers Out of the Shelter | Fostering at the Farm

The brothers had their first day of real farm life today. Yep they’re sleeping over!
So what happened? Well we heard from Dee and the volunteers that they’d already started having a go at each other and had to be in separate kennels back at the shelter. They’re really lovely boys and really great brothers, but being littermates in the shelter would be hard. Not sure how much people know about littermate syndrome? But it’s a real thing and these guys are just reaching that social maturity stage where they need some training to maintain that happy healthy relationship.
That and of course the fact that Chopper laid down and refused to the leave the farm. That got me.
So here they are. Until they find their forever home.
Everyone has made them very welcome. We’ve got two sets of littermates who can share with the brothers some words of wisdom on how to manage.
Tank and Chopper are about 8 months old now and are up for adoption. Being litter mates they require a special person or family that is dedicated to the type of leadership and training they need to feel happy and safe, they’re only young and need a lot of guidance.

How wonderful for Tank and Chopper to be given the opportunity to be FOSTERED at the farm. I just hope that you don’t end up reading lots of comments suggesting you should adopt them too. However well meaning such comments are, if you read enough of them it must have a negative effect on you as you can’t adopt every dog. I am going to love watching them progress and thrive under your care until they depart for their furever home.

@crazycanuck I know what you mean. When so many people say about keeping foster dogs, how right the farm is for them etc it edges into emotional blackmail territory. This big hearted family don't deserve that.

I agree, Natalie. They can't keep them all, though each one earns their own spot in their hearts. I'm sure it's hard enough. I once made a joke about 'Luna will need a tall fence, a pool, where could she find that?' and regret it. They made space for so many dogs that they felt needed to stay with them, dogs who might be higher maintenace, or less well understood.

Tank and Chopper will definitely benefit from being there at the farm, and you can see how quickly they understand basic commands. However, my eyes keep going to Roscoe. He paces along with Wolfie, just keeping an eye on him. He takes a treat with the gentleness of a dog who has had years of training instead of months. PLEASE---someone adopt this sweet boy. I'm afraid if I lived in Australia, I would end up owning 15 dogs.

When I saw how Chopper laid down and refused to go back, I thought of Sam immediately, and knew it, and I was so happy they got to stay on the farm instead of the shelter. Made my evening. There is definitely magic that happens when a dog or pupper steps onto the Farm. Lunch was the sweetest. Everyone with four paws was gentle and kind and shared. To see the new boys just need a few lessons and then the most pleasant side of them took hold. Look sometimes, ya just gotta get away from your sibling for a bit. Here the training and the freedom will let them explore themselves and in turn make their relationship better. The home pack is golden, Sam and Luke.

Another precious video. It was wonderful seeing Tank and Chopper checked out and then welcomed by the pack. I love the way the dogs wait their turn and gently take the meat from Luke. Even Tank and Chopper were very gentle. Tamk and Chopper are very sociable and with training from Luke will make some family very lucky and very happy. 🐾💕🐾💕

Bandit comes in one of the Wednesday therapy packs. He missed his last time due to a tummy issue. He also comes fairly frequently when his family goes away. But it’s never enough for us Bandit fans, is it? I remember Sam writing a while back that they just can’t do the puppy program at present, because they are so short of staff.

Well those two boys might not know what the heck's going on but they're loving every second of their first day at theFarm and can someone please return Chopper's ears 😅 the one's he's got at the moment seem to have lives of their own 🤩 Really looking forward to seeing them progress and moving on to their new family. I think next thing on the training schedule for Luke, as he has so much free time, is to train the dogs to all line up when it is BBQ/pizza/food sharing time. Frankly, I always worry that one or more get forgotten in the efforts to get as close to Luke and the food as possible, and that the ones on the outskirts to get as many pieces. But, really, I think it would be really fun to see them all of a sudden form ranks when the snacks are being passed out. Pied Piper formation is also a favorite.

C'mon, don't be putting pressure on them, they cannot keep them all. The whole point of doing their very hard work is for the dogs to find a new family of their own. Let's just enjoy each shelter dog's story and time at the Farm and be happy for them when they leave :)

@@PolishedMagdalena I bet they keep him because he has bonded with Luke and Thier daughters are begging them to keep him to , I know that they can not keep every dog that they help, I would never expect that, I wanted them to keep Freddo and Rosco I know those kinds of breeds they are not breeds for just any one all that hard work that they put in to them , just because someone else can adopt them those 2 dogs don't mean it's the best thing for them, u know that as well as I do that if another person would take Rosco and get lazy on his training because they say oh he's already trained he would back slide and pick up his old behaviors Rosco been through alot he deserves this life on the farm, u firgure he was on the kill list the shelter was going to put him down in 72 hours Luke and Sam saved his life, I know first hand how those breed's are, they are not a breed for just any one, it's alot of work and Alot of commitment not only that Rosco is very attached now , not only to his people but also to the other dogs he loves the activities and the pool he is better off with them it's the best thing for Rosco I only have Rosco best interest at heart , he turned out to be a great dog

Freddie always manages to become a two tone Golden Retriever when he's at The Farm - he's like a muddy puddle magnet - you just have to love him. Tank and Chopper look as if they've been there 2 weeks not 24 hours ! The gentle but firm, loving approach has already made a difference. Freddie has had a mud bath, of course. Freddo is the elegant gentleman always. Joey is so good at his obedience, but I notice the excitement of all the dogs on the release command !! Rosco has just grown and grown since having the loving care and training, as has Shadow. Very soon Wolfie will be training the dogs, just like Dad. Thank you for today's visit !!!

The way you dug your heels in at the end and were offered a stay, great job Mate. You Boys did fantastic today, you are being awesome around the other dogs, Around Wolfie and Elle. Looks like Roscoe is doing great with the 2 new additions and his sweetness and gentleness is shining through. I would have loved to have seen Tim stay so he could run like the wind every day. Loved watching the training at the end, one on lead and the other following suite to get praise and then Luke working Joey and everyone is following what he is saying and doing. love watching how trained these pups are. awesome day in my book.

Well what a wonderful story for Tank and Chopper, they will now have their best life at the farm until they find their forever home. Sam and Luke are such generous and amazing people to help these beautiful boys socialise and be happy. I must admit when one lay down and didn't want to leave I had a feeling they would stay. Bless them all and thank you.

No wonder Tank/ Chopper wanted to stay! I reckon one of the home pack told him all about the farm😂. Laughing at Joey when you stop to reward Tank and Chopper, she just shouting forget the pats… DRIVE! And what a different life Shadow has now…so wonderful to see her chilling out, just lying snoozing whilst it all goes on round about her….it must be night and day for that precious pup. As for filthy Freddie🤣😂🤣he makes me laugh every time❤️🐾

Love the skewer feeding. I was impressed with how gently they know to take it from the skewer... and people don't think they have intelligence. It seems to me that many dog problems are not that at all, but people problems.

Chopper and Tank are integrating so quickly with the pack and are becoming so well behaved. Of course we aren’t seeing all the behind the scenes action, but it looks really promising! Some lucky owner will be getting 2 very good boys. With all this exercise they are going to sleep very well at the end of the day. Lunch was very impressive! Everyone was so very polite and well behaved, and took the food very gently from Luke’s hand! Dang, Luke, all that BBQ is making me hungry!! Your dogs do eat very well! Joey was so cute brushing up on her commands, showing off to the other dogs (and to you). “This is how it’s done , mates!” Wolfie is getting his land legs under him, and really taking off! Next step is talking. I am really excited to hear what that little nugget has to say. His little toddler conversations are going to be epic! I don’t think my heart will be able to take it when he says “Good dog”! Thank you once again, Sam, for this glimpse into your lives and the lives of these extraordinary dogs. Love you!! ❤️🐾❤️
