AMERICAN SUNDAY! | A huge American car show in THE NETHERLANDS

I was able to attend the "American Car Sunday" event at Zandvoort race track. This has to be one of the largest American car events in Europe and it's so cool to see how many American car enthusiasts there are.

That was awesome! I honestly didn't know that American cars had such a good following in the Netherlands. I knew from facebook groups that American cars have a following in Germany, which is a major automotive producing country so it's not that surprising. I had figured since fuel prices in the Netherlands are high and most people ride bicycles, cars wouldn't be that popular as a hobby. But here I am pleasantly surprised!

Most people ride bicycles here, true. But they also drive a car. Fuel prices are very high here and government is deliberating to increase the liter price with 30 cents, which is n increase of 15% on the current liter price, but almost a doubling of the excise. My brother-in-law just bought a chevy pickup from the sixties/seventies and wants to restore the casco and overhaul the engine in his spare time of the next two years. I’m afraid the when it’s ready, he won’t have money for gas anymore😮

I'm impressed. There are at least hundreds, but possibly even more than 1000 American cars.🤔 I'm especially impressed by the number of new and newer American cars. (So many cars between 1991-2023)

There is a relation between us cars and the Netherlands, in fact a lot of us cars had been sold new in the Netherlands because we had the dealerships also here so a lot of us ford and even the big trucks Mack were sold and were very popular in the Netherlands but later they had to stop because of the enviroment rules. There are still a lot of original sold us cars and trucks back in those days here so its not very strange you see a lot of those cars/trucks here. Its true that there will be more by importing used us cars but also new ones that had actually been sold here to his first owner!

I wish that America just had the Netherlands road design, bike infrastructure, public transit, beautiful structures, all that good stuff! American cars coexisting with all other great things about the Netherlands is amazing to me!

I’m surprised Mustang doesn’t have a huge presence in Europe considering ford is a giant in the European market.

The Mustang is sold here, but it's a lifestyle car and lifestyle cars generally aren't extremely popular in many European countries...I do tend to see more mustangs regularly in Germany (more of a large car market), but there are quite a few in NL as well.

Dutch mustang owner here. Mustang is sold in europe but generally at way higher prices than the US. this is due to certain laws that increase taxes on high emission vehicles. for example: USA 2015 2.3 Ecoboost: $25,300 NL 2015 2,3 Ecoboost: €55.195 USA 2015 V8 GT: $32,300 NL 2015 V8 GT: € 112.195 in the end it is cheaper to import the car 3 - 4 years later then buy one new. Way cheaper to import it with damage (70% of NL sold mustangs have a damage history)

these pickup trucks look somewhat cool here in the south limburg, in the heuvelland especially with farmers. I live in Heerlen, every so often I see the same RAM and a couple of other fords pickup trucks, but maaan, oh maan, how cringe is it to see a shiny, clean sparkling truck driving through a bigger city, just because... cruising through bike lanes, and smaller cars. I really wonder what's going through their minds, same with SUV's. I hope it's a temporary trend/hype...
