Well, the Constantinople was actually started to calling as İstanbul in 1930 with the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. And also after changing the name of Constantinople (İstanbul) Turkey announced that the letters which calls İstanbul as Constantinople will be automaticly declined by the Turkish Govrement. And then every single country in the world accepted and respected it (right greece?).

Constantinople was actually the name of the city until the fall of the Ottomans. The name Istanbul came from Greek slang referring to it as “the city”, kind of like how people from the Mid-Atlantic call NYC “the city”. It’s change was kind of symbolic to say “we relinquish our claim as a successor state to Eastern Rome, we are a Turkish nation not an Islamic Byzantium”
