Thanks to all the nice people who chatted with us! It’s things like the smile on people’s faces when I switch to their native language that make me love learning languages. It really helps to bring people together. 学一门新的外语真的可以拉近人与人之间的距离,帮助大家互相了解,见到家有机会就去学习一门新的语言! Any thoughts on where I should go next? 我下次该去哪儿呢?☺️😏

Young Chinese people seem so nice and happy to help an English speaking person but when they find out you speak Chinese, they are so excited and happy that they almost start hugging you. It's really fun to watch this interaction.

I agree he didn't act properly. Yet, I would like to explain his action (not to defend or justify his action): mid-age guy in our culture usually more care about "face", his weakness of English makes him illiterated, which is a huge "loose-face". He try to be rude to make him looks busy rather than illiterated.

Dude, you rock. 👍 And props to Danny (?) the (fairly silent) cameraman. 😁 Your assessment of language learning is spot on. In fact, studying the awkwardness of most foreign language phrase books is how Ionesco became a playwright, through lampooning how silly and stilted most of those guides are! Can't wait to see the results. p.s. I'm passing this channel onto two of my relatives who spent a similar time in China & still have a network of Chinese friends looking to learn English. 👍

You are inspiring Chris. Back in the 80’s, I tried to learn bits of different languages at college and I wasn’t even studying them. I picked up from different native speakers who were students. At the time, students were mainly from Hong Kong and spoke Cantonese. I played a lot of badminton and started with the numbers. These days I am very rusty.

Wow!!!! Chris, I have fed your KZbin program for quite a long time and this time I feel so surprised that you finally visited Macau and visited my uni! I graduated from university of Macau a few years ago. 🙈 but I have to admit that the English level for people in Macau is not very competitive enough even in my university (though we tried hard to catch up lol)... coz speaking Cantonese or even only speaking mandarin is enough for living here...we rarely got chance to speak English unless it is a class setting. For your next stop, I strongly recommend you to visit SINGAPORE!!! Singapore is famous for its SINGLISH, I guess 60%+ English speaker find a bit hard to understand haha... since I’m currently living in SG, let me know if you decide to come:) I’m happy to be your tour guide ☺️

Dude, people love reactions alot. The start of the conversations you have is just like the build up to a thriller movie and the end product are the reactions of the people you interact with. I wish you would show more of those rather than cut them off just when the fun starts, especially the funny and cute ones. Just my 2 cents. Thank you for these videos, we all love them and once the pandemic is over and you can start filming again. Pls share more and extend the reactions more often. Stay safe everyone! Edit: Subscribed!

This shows how generous and forgiving Chinese people are when they see foreigners speaking their language. I can assure you this guy's Cantonese is pretty bad and he has a very odd accent when he speaks in Mandarin - it could be the combination of him trying too hard to imitate the locals and his American accent. However, you would get judged immediately in the U.S. if you're not white and you have a slight accent.

熊暪們 it’s interesting because in America we actually don’t have an official national language that you need to learn according to a law. Some states declare English as an official language but again, it’s not a national thing, and there definitely isn’t governmental policies designed to remove a foreign language or stop it. If you’re in a Spanish household in America and grow up speaking Spanish no one minds. Though to go about daily life English is definitely a requirement.
