When ‪@EthanChlebowski‬ comes to town, you eat German snacks.
Club Mate? Currywurst? Communist Nutella? We got all the German snacks, and for dramatic purposes we invited a real American foodie to give us his expert opinion.

Toffifee and Werther's Original are both fairly popular and widely available in the United States, though for the American market they renamed Toffifee to Toffifay to better reflect American English phonetics. You can easily find both in any American supermarket.

Just for the record: The original Spezi is done by Riegele, a local brewery in Augsburg, Bavaria. Decades ago they did the (from a current perspective) dumb move to give Paulaner the license to make Spezi without paying any fees and as Paulaner is the much bigger and more known brewery a lot of people think Paulaner is the inventor of Spezi.

@TheSwedishRider

Actually they are called like that because they feel cold without refrigerating them, which is because of the low melting point of the coconut fat. The same applies to "Kalter Hund".

I met Americans and offered them Mett (raw pork) and they looked at me like I offered them a prick of plutonium or some. Guess who ate 4 portions after they tried it😂👌 Btw 5 days isn't quite right, it's only allowed to sell the day it's made.
@geneard639
@geneard639 Жыл бұрын
It's a toss up as to why Americans are suspicious of raw pork, it could be related to historic European based cultural food taboos, but for my mom's family, a mix of Native American tribes of the Gulf Coast, swine was considered flat out alien... Except for that one great uncle who decided to raise them to sell. Pigs are old world animals, so that makes sense. Dad's side eats pork though. My mom's silent protest to his demand to cook pork chops was to render them into charcoal.
@SLMK-rk7ht

It's due to parasites such as Trichinella. Uncooked pork usually has this type of worm. There are many instances where people who eat under cooked pork get parasite that will travel to their brain and eat holes through it. So yeah enjoy it ;-)

Only in countries like Germany with their extreme food safety regulations it's save to eat raw pork from the supermarket!

When I started studying and got packages sent directly to me, hanuta, baumkuchen and (slightly embarrassing) curry king were absolute life savers, especially after a few beers or when pulling all nighters.

Gospel of Jesus Christ John 3:16 For God So loved the world that he gave his only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not Perish but have Everlasting Life. Jesus Christ Died for the sin of the World, If you believe in ur heart God risen Jesus from the dead and confess him with ur mouth to people you shall be saved. Jesus said I Am The only way to heaven there is no other way! Repent of urs sins (Repent means Change ur Mind turning away from sinful things and being truly sorry for it.) trust Jesus and give ur life to him He Loves you cares about you more than anyone ever will! we are saved By Grace Trough Faith!,this is sin: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 For all have sined and felt short of the Glory of God. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans 1:18‭-‬21‭, ‬23 KJV Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9‭-‬10 REPENT OR YOU WILL PERISH REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL GET RIGHT WITH GOD LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Fun fact: Spezi is actually a brand name so there's really only the original Spezi and the Paulaner Spezi shown in the clip (which is different, apparently Paulaner bought the rights to make their own Spezi from the original creator of the brand way back in the 60s or smth) with all the other versions being called "Cola Mix" or something like that.
@Whitehills0815
@Whitehills0815 2 жыл бұрын
Bonus fact: It is a brand name that you can actually buy a license to. Most companies don't want to pay that. So they call their drink Cola Mix or something. Paulaner is special though, because they bought a perpetual license before the whole brand was well established (so before there were yearly fees). The founder/brand company is officially still kinda mad about that.

@@PoppyGaming43 Bc as I said, Paulaner bought the rights to make their own Spezi all the way back in the 60s or 70s for a really small sum (I think around 10.000 marks back in the day), and now Paulaner makes millions every year selling that drink, and the original Spezi brand want some of that cash, so they tried to argue that a) they could cancel the deal they made back then and b) that Paulaner today isn't entitled to the same deal that Paulaner back then made (since the company changed and reformed at some point in the 80s or so) Both arguments were rather flimsy even from a laymans point of view, so it wasn't a huge surprise that the court ruled against them.

They're made with coconut butter hence the fast melting.. you're supposed to store them in the fridge and when eating them they're supposed to give the sensation of ice cream melting in your mouth 😅 hence the name „ice confect"🤷🏼‍♀️

Earlier today, my girlfriend and I watched ProZD rate a bunch of Campbell Soups, and we both thought of how... to an American, these are flavors and tastes that carry cultural and personal significance. Many Americans watching probably had some, wrapped up in a blanket battling a bad cold when they were 9, watching cartoons or something. But I would _never_ try it, because it would just be canned soup. Same with most of these snacks. Barring some, they're just... candy or softdrinks or salty fried snacks. You can get those anywhere. And Ethan has his own collection of shitty snacks he grew up with that Andong just wouldn't get.

Russisch Brot is supposedly named so because the baker who introduced it in Germany in the 19th century, one Friedrich Wilhem Hanke of Dresden, claimed to have encountered the recipe in St Petersburg when he was a baker's apprentice there. Allegedly, the original idea came from a teacher who used it to familiarize his pupils, who already knew Cyrillic script, with Latin script. A different hypothesis has been postulated by Bahlsen bakery, who have been making Russisch Brot since 1904: The "Russisch" does not actually refer to the Russian country/language/people, but is a bastardisation of the word "rösch", a local term for "crispy" or "crunchy".

Dickmann’s are pretty bad, to be honest. They are made to be cheap and to keep for a long time. The whole marketing behind them is about their size ... But neither taste not consitency are really pleasant to eat. Viennese Niemetz has their "Schwedenbomben", which is of course still a mass produced product, but not as bad as Storck with a much better recipe and better ingredients. They are noticeably more expensive, but in terms of taste it is so much better than this Dickmann’s stuff. I tried a Dickmann’s twice in my life. That has been enough to make me never want to get close to these things again.

That's extremely easy: take a pot, pour some full-fat-milk (4:1 milk:rice ratio) in it, add the content of a vanillabean and some sugar to your liking, bring it to a boil, add round-grain rice (in Germany it is specifically sold as Milchreis, but pretty much any starchy round-grain type should do), take it off the heat, put a lid on and tightly wrap the pot in your bed blanket and put it into your bed for a couple of hours. Sprinkle some cinnamon-sugar onto it if you like it sweeter, otherwise it's great on its own, with fruit, applesauce, cooked cherries, etc.

Depends on where you are. In the bigger cities like Berlin definitely, however in the countryside they are still colloquial called Mohrenkopf or Negerkuss. after all Neger never had the same meaning as the N-word in English as the German equivalent to that is "Bimbo", guess it became unfashionable due to its similarity and hence use in translations of American movies and series but the word itself doesn't have anywhere near the same connotations to it and is still occasionally used in the countryside

By the way: Mate is from Argentinia, de Beukelaer from Belgium, Mozartkugeln are austrian, Maggi is a swiss company, Hanuta and Milchschnitte are made by Ferrero, an italian company. Nevertheless an amusing testing - more likely European advertising television.
