I read the memoirs of a veteran who was a member of the Nuremberg Guard. He described having to sprinkle some kind of salt on his pistol belt to make it completely white. That's interesting, I've never heard of that before. I have an original WW2 white MP belt and it has all the rings painted in white.

US Occupation Japan uniform has the shoulder patch of US Army Service and Supply (otherwise known jokingly as the Texaco Star) sewn on upside down. It's a common mistake because people don't pay attention that the star tip that bisects the scallop is the top of the star that points up.

That 1945 prison guard needs to fix his ribbons. The US Army has never worn the Presidential Unit Citation on the left breast of the uniform. He is wearing a National Defense Service Medal ribbon and the Army of Occupation Medal ribbon. The NDSM was first issued in April 1953 and the AOM was first issued in April 1946.

Yeah, WW2 gear looks cool, but modern gear performs better in the field. I wore gear similar to WW2 gear during my draft in the Dutch Army in 1992/93 and I was not impressed. Long Johns, shirt and scarf made from 50 % cotton/ 50 % wool, quite itchy. Wool socks that were too cold for winter and too hot for summer. Cotton uniforms that soaked up water like a sponge, when I climbed up on my truck to put on, or take off camouflage nets. The cotton was heavy, so too hot for the summer temperatures. Modern gear is better: light weight fabric of cotton-nylon mix, so fast drying and not so hot in summer. Warming and lighter winter gear. Better boots.

What happened to the M41 combat jacket? I didn't see it on your video at all ... besides the later introduction of M43 jacket, the M41 jacket was actually worn by our guys throughout the war in Europe in WWII. Especially on August 15, 1944 Operation Dragoon in Southern France (3rd Infantry Division- US Army). Not only the Marines wore them in the Pacific.

Interesting & enjoyable video...some observations...the 101st officer has his right hand placed as if he is carrying a para carbine, which he is not( my mistake, I watched the video again & he is)...he has what appears to be a bag for a gas mask on his left side...I do not believe they were carrying gas masks at this point in the war...perhaps he has extra general gear there,or extra mags or grenades...also, the guys in Europe would have gloves & they do not...the glider soldier looks very authentic, but I think the flag goes on the right arm...the Red Cross girl would be a sight for sore eyes in the field...the tanker might have had goggles on his helmet...my favorites are the Marine & the glider infantryman...the Marine because they used mostly khaki webbing as shown...the glider infantryman because his webbing is typical of what was used at the time and at the same time - khaki, OD 3 & OD 7...the changes in webbing were such that it was very rare to have someone with a complete set of webbing in the same color...this especially happened with mussette bags...in any case, my complements to those who made this series...I hope they will continue to make more on this topic...my thanks & admiration to all vets for their service, those that made the ultimate sacrifice & those who were able to return home...God bless & keep them all...
