To forgive is the most beautiful and powerful thing a human being can do.

One positive aspect of the legacy of the Vietnam War is that it was the veterans who began the process of normalization between the two countries. This began in 1981 when Bobby Muller made a return trip to start the reconciliation between former enemies. Over the years many more vets returned and full diplomatic relations were established in 1995.

This man is a very, very brave person .... more so now as he confronts his actions in Vietnam, .... than he was in volunteering to go there. As a young soldier, he felt compelled to "fight for freedom, or democracy, or whatever". Did he fail society or did society fail him? I think society failed him and trained him, handed him over to war, just as we do with our young men now at similarly tender ages. This man, who thought he would carry these secrets to his grave, is telling us truth. Brave!

Hi Jamesshop7, yes, what you said about healing + ignorance is right-on + spiritually written across the sky grey or blue. The healing found in forgiveness is hard, yet it’s of God itself "i once was blind but now i see..." It's here!

That sound's tough. I killed a lot and finally could not kill anymore,not anything. Nor could I even get close to it. I was very tensely responsive and knew I had the power and ability to take life. I don't think I would want to go back and revisit.I think that all things happen, just like in a play, and we all have our parts.this is tough to write.I still am wired a little tight and most don't "get me". I went crazy once and don't know if I still am. I'd rather not know, I probably am

The door gunner who says he shot at everything had come to the point where he felt everything in the entire country was the enemy. That is not according to geneva convention but it is a phenomenon that does occur after too much trauma. How many bleeding and dead bodies can a man see loaded onto his helicopter before he perceives everything down there as the enemy. There were soldiers who managed to totally adhere to pristine conduct regarding the enemy. I know some. War is hellacious.

I was a Huey UH-1N door gunner - if we were not in a Free-Fire Zone - if I got ground fire I had to ask permission from the pilot to return fire, after he got the OK from Air Force HQ & S. Vietnamese Air Force to return fire. That was according to the RULES - here's the reality - 1 burst from my GAU-2B mini-gun and I reported to the pilot - "Sir, we had ground fire at 3 o'clock - we don't anymore. If they didn't shoot at me first I didn't know where to return fire.

@turnip53594 жыл бұрын
Water buffalo are considered very important in Vietnam, they're used for transporting crops etc in agriculture. It's like destroying someone's farming equipment, essentially destroying someone's livelihood and ability to feed their family

@Jamesshop7 Were you in Vietnam at the time of the war? You have a lot more common sense and understanding than a lot of non Vietnam war veteran Americans do. Some of the anti war hippies were just plain brain washed and hatefull fools. The US veterans of that war were done wrong when they returned home. They were good soldiers, who for the most part, served with as much honor as a soldier could and they deserve respect.
@patbirder13 жыл бұрын
@hinanochick You don't have to feel sorry for Terry if you don't want to but you have serious problems if you want to compare him to nazis. Don't be so quick to judge soldiers unless you have fought in a war.
