A Vietnam veteran has shared the beautiful moment he was finally able to meet his Amerasian daughter for the first time, more than 50 years after he was forced to leave the country when the war ended and lost all contact with his Vietnamese wife, who was six months pregnant at the time. Bob Andron, 77, was legally married to Linda Throng's mom, Lin, while he lived in Vietnam between January 1970 and January 1971. A sergeant with the United States Air Force, Bob was an English specialist and an English language instructor, improving airmen’s use of the language. But after a year of service, Bob, was forced to leave and had no way of keeping in contact with Lin, given that he didn't have her Vietnamese last name when he left for the United States. For decades, Bob wondered what became of Lin and his child, until one day he received a call out of the blue from genealogist, Kristee Mays, who specializes in reuniting veterans with lost biological family members.

When Linda said “Daddy”, the tears wouldn’t stop. Having never known my father, or the feeling of being Daddy’s little girl… that struck hard. Linda is such a beautiful woman and such a loving daughter. The bond was immediate. Such a miraculous story.

I had exact same experience. My daughter found me after 47 years and I had no idea she even existed. After meeting her for the first time, she has become a most loved part of our family and I'm happy to say everyone fully accepted her and loves her so much. Like this girl, my daughter calls me often, always wanting to know how I'm feeling, my health, etc. I just wish so much that I had found out about so many years ago. This experience lead me to become involved with helping other Vietnamese find their American fathers. Sadly, so many either deny they have a child, even when presented overwhelming evidence, or they outright reject them. What POS's those type of men are.

I can perfectly relate meeting my dad the first time at age 52. He didn't know I existed didn't even know my mom was pregnant when he left the Philippines. I was already a widow with 4 grown up children and 9 grandchildren when I found him. From the very first time I found him in the internet and talked to him on the phone, it took me 8 months calling him every single day checking on him as he was living alone and sickly and already 80 years old. I did all I can to be able to visit him here in the US in 2016 and took care of him . He never got married and I am his only child. I took care of him until he drew his last breath. My dad was poor and a recluse but he had a very beautiful heart. If I have to live my life again , I will never wish for another dad but him. The few years we were together, he left me the most beautiful memories I will cherish the rest of my life. He was my childhood dream come true, and I was a miracle for him. Finding him was one of the very best things that has happened to me.

I had a similar situation. My daughter came looking for me when she was about 21. Found me through Facebook. Her mother had moved a few times and changed her family name so I had no idea where she was. It was such a joy to finally meet and talk and we arranged to catch up within days of that. She’s since gone on to have 2 daughters of her own and I’m in regular contact with them all to this day.

Sometimes women don’t even tell the guy they are pregnant if they just rather cut ties with the guy. That or giving the child up for adoption is an alternative to abortion. That said obviously it’s best to be in a committed marriage before acting like you’re married or saying your committed when clearly your not. I am very happy that families are reuniting. It’s awful that women keep or get rid of the fathers kid and men don’t even always know. I’ve had friends abort kids, hide kids, and put kids up for adoption all because they weren’t ready for marriage and family, but did the stuff that you do when you’re married that leads to a family. But even though there might have been lost years in these cases, they don’t have to be lost moving forward.

@@bhadwamodi8294 There were many sad stories happened in war for both Vietnamese and Americans. Without knowing the details, one could not know for sure. After the war, both countries did not establish normal relationship until 20 years later. People on both sides had to move on with their lives. As active soldier, one had to follow order to leave or to stay. Once the communists overran the South, how could he get back to Vietnam to look for her? Vietnam between 1975 to 1995 was like an Eastern block Communist country where normal Westerners were not welcomed and viewed with suspicion. There were Vietnamese parents, in the last days of the war, handed their children to strangers who had ticket to leave Vietnam knowing their kids future would be better with strangers than to stay back home with them under the communists.

I had a similar situation but because of the way my mom was in her vindictive ways I haven’t seen my dad in for 45 years and finally found him a year and a half ago 92 years old still up and around does yard work , changes oil I didn’t know he was only 2 1/2 hours away from us.

This gives me hope. I still haven't met my dad. Only found out my " dad" was my step dad at 55 years old. Just before my mother died. She didn't tell me very much about him. But he was a child of about 10 years old in france during WW2 and i think jewish. He was sneaked out but his parents ( my gra grandparents were killed) they sent him to USA and that is were he met my mother. My mother was living in southern Saskatchewan Canada and i was born in south Saskatchewan. I grew up in Alberta Canada. And i am now 70 years old. It would be nice to meet my father, if he is alive. Just to know.

My son Kelly never knew his Dad. Recently, he found out that his Dad died early in 2000. I never talked ill of him. But most of ALL Kelly MUST understand he's ONLY here to meet his Heavenly FATHER! Dad's down here (good or bad) are NOT Forever. But we honor our father and our mother because they give us the opportunity to live ETERNALLY with JESUS, the Lover of our souls. My son is still mourning and trying to figure out life. 50 years ago I was atheist, but JESUS saved me! AMEN! I discovered I was NOT born to die and go to Hell! Tami..we don't know the whole story on his side ..as to why he didn't contact her. Back then the country is still at war when the Americans were sent back in 1972. I'm also born in that country and growing up there. So if you live in a war torn country like that..you run from one village to the next..when fighting broke out. Very much like what's going on in Ukraine. So since contacting by mail takes more than a month to get there..by the time it does..she might have gone somewhere else!! Then there's no personal computers or cell phones during the 70s either!! So how can he contacted her anyway? When I first fled VN ..I came here and wrote back to my friends..a few times during the mid 70s..but there's no reply!! It took years later due to my brother going back to visit to find our friends. They were not living in the same place any more! Then a few years on..with social media/ cell phones..we were able to connect! We didn't meet face to face until 40 years later!! So that's why this story to me is also amazing as mine reuniting with my friends after 40 years!!

It is so special how just genuinely happy and grateful she was to have met her father. No inhibitions or anything, just pure happiness to finally have him in her life. Sometimes with these reunions you can sense a bit of pain or sadness, probably from all they’ve been through missing a parent in their life but this was just pure joy. So happy for them. I don't think you guys have any idea of how that war went. US forces left and the government of South Vietnam collapsed and ceased to exist. For decades the government of Vietnam and the US were in non talking terms. He didn't know her last name. He didn't even know whether she or her mom were alive. Plus he probably had really bad memories of that place with all sorts of PTSD. It's easy foe you to judge, but you don't know what happened to them.

As a woman Vietnam era Navy WAVE Veteran I am so happy for both of you. While serving at MSC Gulf- New Orleans, Vietnamese boat refugee we brought into our port. We transported them to a local merchant marine hospital. That was 50 years ago. Recently at the VA Hospital I met a young Doctor who is a descendant of Vietnamese boat refugees. This was so exciting for both of us to meet one another as Life came full circle for both of us.

These stories always choke me up as someone who's father walked out on them. I've met him only once 15 years ago, and it was not planned. Complete coincidence. It was awkward, and uncomfortable. Even at age 15 I could tell he didnt want to see or talk to me and I found out later that several members of that side of the family didnt even know I existed at all. It always hurt to know my father wants absolutely nothing to do with me, but is happy to raise his three younger children (my half siblings). Seeing stories like this makes me envious in a way, but also restores my faith a bit too. Maybe one day my father will see the light.

So sorry for your experience....hard not to feel anger and resentment for such rejection...but hang in there....things might yet turn around...I could never reject my child...no matter what. I stayed in dysfunctional marriage for 31yrs...estranged for many years...but I HAD to see my children EVERY DAY...not negotiable...until they were educated and could fend for themselves...and still have a great relationship with all three of them...and their spouces.

My older brother and sister make effort to talk to me and invite me to things, though unfortunately we live in different states now so it's hard to get together as often. I finally met my 2 younger brothers for the first time a couple years ago when one of them turned 21. He told our older sister to invite me to the party so he could finally meet me, which I had been waiting and hoping for for years to be honest. I figured if I was patient, that eventually they would reach out to me once they were out of his house and no longer bound to his rules, and when they finally did, it really felt good. Unfortunately I still haven't been able to meet my youngest sister, as she just turned 18, but I have hope for that some day too. Even my cousins on that side of the family (who only met me once almost 15 years ago) still to this day make an effort to check up on me on a regular basis. He's pretty much the only one who pretends I don't exist.

Thank you for this video. Made me teary and happy at the same time. I lost my father to stomach cancer when I was 20 years old and I have always known, he is still with me in spirit. This girl got the inverted luck I had, she didn't have her father in her first years of life but she will have him, in the second half of her life. May God concede them many years together. :) He looks like a decent, honorable man, and she seems to be a very smart, educated girl.
