Ren pulled this together at his friend’s apartment. The extras were friends willing to spend hours as they tried to get a good one-take shot. This one had so many moving parts and complications! But the flow is incredible. I also love the final backlit shot from the headlights! I also love the thought Ren put behind the video concept. Definitely influenced by Orwell’s Animal Farm (with the writing on the walls in the first scene). But also influenced by Kubrick, Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, etc. And top it off with a little Willy Wonka 😼 It adds another layer to the song interpretation! You should also watch the live acoustic version … very different feel. I’m really enjoying your reactions! It’s a fun rabbit hole to explore 🕳️🐇 Lots of gems 💎

I love how Ren describe how he approached this video's concept during his interview with Knox, how he looks at each song with both a wider, macro overview, but then comes in to flesh out the detailed intricacies that make his work so distinctively 'Ren'. Also, just as he's able to make his guitar almost like an extension of his own self, he wields the same magic touch with 'Animal Flow', but instead largely driven by his beatboxing. Just an amazingly talented gift to us all. 😊

Great reaction to a great song bro. Ren said he bought like 200 animal masks from Amazon. Got a bunch of friends and friends of friends and shot this masterpiece. The attention to detail and the fact that they were able to even get one clean shot all the way thru is amazing. Plus thinking about Ren and some of the others that had to probably run from one spot while the camera wasn't on him briefly to get set up for the next shot. Id love to see the BTS for this one. After the ladies drag him off we see the kitties and the camera spins goes back out the same door and the sheep is waiting🤌🤌🤌perfection

@@Stiijn1990 Not quite - there are a couple of cuts. But they were working with very severe time constraints, they had to have the sun in more or less that position to make sense with the lyrics. And - it being Britain - they couldn't rely on having *any* sun the next day! 🤣 So they didn't have time to do the usual 168 takes to get it 'perfect'. Mind you, I think it's perfect as it is.

@@Stiijn1990 Apologies, I did not mean to sound critical, you have no reason to be sorry. It's just that I've been having so much fun on this Ren reactions roller coaster ride, learning new stuff every day. I love to get different perspectives on the videos, and some of the reactors I'm following are videographers/directors/camera people and so on, and that's a whole new area of fascination for me these days. If you had asked me a couple of months ago about a 'one-take video', I'd have responded "The what, now?" 🤣 So the thought about the time-constraints they had on Bittersweet Symphony literally just popped into my head when I read your comment. My mind went something like "Nope, I saw a few cuts... wait, why *did* they have cuts? Ren is a madman for the one-take thing.. oh, the sun is just up, the song is all about him going home after a night on the lash.. that's it. They were stuck for time, they *couldn't* do their usual insane number of takes. Therefore they were forced to have a few cuts. Man, I'm a genius!". Yeah, something like that... 🤣

I'd love to know the layout of that building, just to get an idea of how these participants moved about off camera to adjust their positions. The white dog on the stairs for example was in the first room. The black lagoon creature in the bath was one of the ones grabbing Ren later I think. So well done. @@joeesparks7 I truly Love it - from the melody, the beat, the lyrics, the visuals, and that it's "back" to the unique Ren style I first discovered. (It's similar to Diazepam, another favourite). What I especially love is how it has opened up discussions and conversations that needs to be talked about more - it shouldn't be something that has to be hidden (Ren had to change the wording in the title several times in an attempt to get it through YT censorship for example) because the contemplation of it is everywhere - so many people are in that dark place- I've been there myself as well as my Dad took his life when I was 10. What's stopped me is knowing the long term pain that would cause to those left behind and the 2nd part of this track shows that so clearly. I feel sure by Ren writing this and the discussions that will be had, people opening up etc, it Will help save lives

AbsoF'nlutely keep on the Ren train. Great reaction, I expected you to delve much deeper into the insane amount of nuance in the shooting of this video. A much more analytical breakdown of not only the visual concept/content but also the techniques used to produce them would be awesome coming from someone steeped in the knowledge and craft. Ren also said that there are loads of Easter eggs, not so much hidden but rather subtly slipped in and to watch you find the ones we fans already have and likely more that we have missed would also help to knit us, your viewers and subscribers and you into the community you are developing. Great video my brother and new Ren lover. Big ups from Humboldt County.

Yeah, I'd love a really deep breakdown from that point of view. Videographer/cinematographer reactors are rare as hens' teeth, the more detail the better. I love learning all this new stuff from people who know what they are talking about. It helps me appreciate what I'm watching even more. For example, one reactor mentioned how good the 'focus puller' was on one of Ren's videos. That led to a whole night's entertainment for me - reading up on what the heck a 'focus puller' was. I had *no idea* how much went on quietly in the background of a shoot before that. I always just assumed the camera operator fiddled with the focus as they went along. 🤷‍♂🤣

You might consider combining it with the official music video for "Blind Eyed". The studio version (produced in Ren's bedroom) is a different beast from the several excellent live versions of the song on KZbin, and the video does a lot of interesting visual things, starting with a one-take section following Sam Tompkins before switching it up. I believe the official "Blind-Eyed" was filmed by Ren's other camera pal Luke Flegg, same one who did this awesome "Animal Flow" video.

@@serendipitish That's a great idea! Maybe start with the official video as it serves as a better introduction to the song, and then the guerilla garage version as a follow-up. Please continue with the Ren reactions Joe E 👍. If you want something a little different, then I think you would love the unconventional filming of Losing it (Fisher retake). It looks like they may have filmed it on something like an Insta360 with a fish eye lens. Also there is a live street performance version of the Jenny and screech trilogy with a huge organised audience. Again, this one is filmed in proper 360, but if you watch it on a 360 enabled device like a phone or iPad, you can spin your device round and view anywhere such as the crowd or Ren. It’s really cool.

Finally got round to come back for commenting after I was understandably sidetracked with Ren's latest release just dropped straight after... I like how you said you're hoping to get to 2k subs and you're already over 3k just 12 hours later😃 Congrats! Animal Flow is a visual feast and there's a Lot to take in, especially when hearing the music for the first time too (if you listen with headphones you hear even more as there's detail & layers in the beats he produces too). Yep, you got the Metronome movement of the cane at the beginning. Great you noticed the head in the birdcage - did you notice it actually swings in time to the beat? For most people that would just be a lucky coincidence but as you get to see more of Ren & Sam's videos you'll understand that was more likely also a deliberate intricate attention to detail. The dogs playing poker for example was a reconstruction of a famous painting - right down to the same shaped red lampshade as in the painting. Numerous film references in there eg The Shining, and the scene at end with the headlights and Ren walking with a slight limp was a nod to A Clockwork Orange but also Willy Wonka. I like how you noticed the light on Ren's shoulder highlighting him - something I wouldn't have noticed and didn't know there was a term for it - these are the extra details that you bring that other reactors can't as its not their specialty. The writing on the wall if you watch again is the 7 Commandments from George Orwell's Animal Farm where (if you don't know) the animals take over the farm but then end up behaving just like humans and the commandment "All Animals are Equal" gets changed to "but some are more equal than others". When Ren sings about the King's illegitimate crown, King Charles was officially crowned 2 days before Ren released the track... Love how this has inspired you (Ren is the God for inspiring people in a myriad of ways!) to step out of your safety zone when making videos - what I'd really love to see is an interview / discussion with Samuel Perry-Falvey, Ren's videographer and maybe discussing in detail how he (& Ren) bring Ren's music to life. I know that every single thing we see in the videos is both meticulous and deliberate from timing to lighting to reverb, the locations they choose (on Ren's YT community tab he gave a brilliant account of how they got the location for Illest of Our Time (please react to that one! ) and all the difficulties they had to overcome including junkies trying to nick the equipment to sell on for drugs lol. More Ren definitely!

Ok, that filming location was an apartment above a restaurant called The ivy in brighton. Which is where they film most of the big push busking videos.. and where Ren and Sam often would sing together. The place used to be an old post office so I imagine it has lots of weird rooms. He chose it was his friend had recently rented it from another friend and Ren thought the hallway had big Kubrick vibes, hence his attire..

Another thing about Ren he is therapy for so many with his Hi Ren song and as you said he inspires you so in theory or practice he is also a teacher. All the best with your Ren journey and your channel

I know it’s only a small detail but the part at 7:26 when they’re coming down the stairs there’s a massive mirror hanging on the wall, and they’re still able to continue the one shot - without seeing the cameraman - but still seeing all the other extras and details in the background of the shot to give it a genuine Full feel… Yeah man I’m loving your reactions. I like how you talk just as much / if not more about the videos which is your expertise - rather than breaking down lyrics and bars, which you do touch on. There’s MANY other reactors talking about songs, lyrics and meaning etc, but hardly anyone talking in detail about the visual accompaniment which can quite often (and especially with Ren) add much more to the experience. I’d love you to watch and talk about Chalk outlines - Ren and Chinchilla - a very simple but beautiful song and video. Peace out Bro and check you on the next one 🫡

What a great reactor you are! You notice so much. I'm also glad that BP got you on to Ren and his genius. You should really check out the live acoustic version of this. Rens breath control alone is outstanding, let alone his guitar skills. Please give us your reaction to that. Sam's talent also fab! Thankyou. Love from the U.K ❤

The thing is he is doing so much of this on a small budget and a few good friends. He normally is the one to overspend on the videos. Now this one is more than the others. But the parts are played by friends in those huge animal heads. But his so humble and honest. For the interviews so very real as a person. It is really hard for me to believe that its been 2 or 3 months and has exploded!!! And I am hoping he stays true to himself. Great talent and grateful to be on the REN RABBIT HOLE. ❤

Love it bro! At the end when you talk about people getting on someone talking shit-I hate to use the words “cult following” but only to use as emphasis, people who have their hardcore fans are the BEST(or worst if you are the offender). Ren has no shortage of dedicated fans who are helpful when you have a question, Johnny on the Spot if you want something to react to next, and will absolutely defend him with the ferocity of a mother bear protecting a cub. His talent is so rare with his legendary compassion for others and appreciation for his fans. A true treasure that is often unappreciated. Sam is possibly the only person who might be more under appreciated but we are changing that! Thanks PLEASE keep doing these reactions. Please. I won’t write a novella in the comments next time I just had to get that out.

This was filmed in his friend's apartment/block. He had about 80 friends involved, no professionals. It took 9 hours to shoot, from 7 pm to 4 am. The location is opposite where he has done a lot of live performances with The Big Push and Sam Tompkins. The backlighting came from the headlights one of his friend's cars. Up until now he has a self-imposed budget limit of £1K ($1.27K) per video

WOW I know you have established talents from the respect BP has for you and the reactions I saw you did with him. But after watching you solo this reaction your knowledge being a director/videographer is a big thing but the fact you are 100% invested in the detail of what you are witnessing (I can relate because many times I’ve been told to sit back on the couch by my ex after she has watched me standing hyperventilating living the moment during some scene in a movie we were watching) …. I can see you becoming one of the top reactors. Anyways, this was an awesome reaction Take care man Daz, Berrima, NSW,Australia
