FINALLY watched this. Although it sure took you long enough. 😊 Not as long as Chris though. Anodyne at 15…that explains a lot. Very cool. And you had such great surprises in store for you.

All the other music I listened to at 15 was pretty much Alternative Radio. And not the cool stuff. 😂 So Uncle Tupelo is something I look back on as a huge win.

@@TheDigitalGramophone For sure. Prime age to hear such an influential record. I didn’t hear it until after I got into Wilco and Son Volt and was probably 23 at the time. So landed a little differently.

Very enjoyable, a lot to love in this tag. From political commentary to showing all female artists before even getting to the female artist question🙌 A lot of not- obvious answers to questions; love the twist you put on things. Makes me wonder if Mr Fulks is right😆 could well agree with you on Cash as interpreter. One of the greats. I for one will never get tired of your Tupelo superhero origin story, it just continues to give. Just says so much. Yeah I also interchange Alt Country and Americana. Same coin, two sides.

I think 90s alt-country just spawned more artists that wanted to be more faithful to the "true" country sound. The genre got too broad and the variety too much to just be called "alt-country." Americana became the defining term. It's almost as infuriating as prog. The biggest difference is that at least Americana can point to a place that inspired it. It has true roots.

Jon, killer response my man! Great remarks on female artists as well. It's a shame we have to single them out to a question. The Beast in Me is a great Johnny cover. Steve Earle is someone I'm late to the game with, he's so good. Hard to argue with Blackbird. I just got that Uncle Tupelo on cd last year, Acuff Rose is so good. Thanks for doing this!

Well, here we are. Bring on the Lefie Country. Only yesterday I was having a conversation with my better half about how ridiculous it was that some the VC need to be prompted to show female artists. Scored me at least 150 Feminist points. You must be in the high 200s for your diatribe. Nice. I must get that Songs of Our Native Daughters, it sounds great. I love it when Mountain Man sing traditional Shaker songs. Lovely. I agree with you about the last couple of albums Neko Case made, and I'd also like to hear her to move back towards her earlier sound. I can understand why she might not want to step backwards with her music, but goddamnit I want more country! Phew! I got the duet vs duo right...I think. You'd make a good teacher, you have just the right level of disdain and visual disappointment when confronted by a profoundly half-witted student. It took me years to perfect that withering response. You threw in a couple of bands/artists that were new to me. Handy to be able to check them out with the playlist. What a good idea. I do love Robbie Fulks...Apart from his stab at the mainstream with Let's Kill Saturday Night. Not an album I enjoy. Well done. It was worth the wait. Hed

I think you would love Songs of Our Native Daughters, Hedley, and I look forward to seeing it posted on your Instagram one day. I would just like a more stripped back album from Neko Case. Doesn't have to be too country (although that would be nice too). Ha! I knew I would catch some grief about the duet/duo thing. I just wanted to see more songs highlighted and not more groups. I'm a HUGE fan of the duet as a song, so was a little disappointed with some responses regarding that. In America, our teachers cannot get away with this kind of snark. Lawsuit waiting to happen. It's the very reason why I didn't follow in my mother's footsteps. I married a teacher instead. I always consider it a victory when I include music that you've never heard in a video. Thanks for the inspiration on the playlist idea. I actually really like Let's Kill Saturday Night. The production was a drastic change at the time, but after some years removed - it doesn't really sound all that out of place now. I also love that duet with Lucinda! Incredible song! Sorry for the lag in response. I hope you do see this. Cheers, Hedley!

I remember in the late 90's when I managed a whale 🐋 of a record store being ridiculed for suggesting we start an Americana section encompassing the wide variety of genres that fit in that description. This video is proof that I was right ✅️ ! I've never been less excited for a Super Bowl 🏈. I pick Taylor's team to win.
@TheDigitalGramophone

It's a tricky thing - Americana. I actually showed too much stuff in this tag that is truly pure country. Even on my own records shelves, I'm not very consistent about where I place "Americana" artists. I have a country section, but I don't have groups there that I consider more "rock." Lunchbox Records puts anybody with any amount of consistent twang in their country section. Which I've always found odd, but it does make things easier. I haven't been excited about a Super Bowl in close to a decade. I guess my household is pulling for the Chiefs (Taylor's Version). 🤷‍♂

You showed many things I'm unfamiliar with so I'll have to add them to my ever growing list of music to check out. I generally found Andy Rooney's commentary pretty frivolous. Did you ever wonder about wash rags? Yeah, me either. I always enjoy art that I find a bit confrontational. Love the Drive-By Truckers album cover. Curious about the Mascis, among many others you showed here. Bed-wetting liberal guy, lol. I'll have to chew on that one. Thanks for doing the tag.

Haha! Yeah, as humorous as I did find Rooney sometimes, he generally was just a grump. I’d rather listen to real comedians like Seinfeld or Jim Gaffigan instead. My classification of “bed-wetting liberal” wasn’t exactly accurate regarding the character in the song. I was just trying to set-up the polar opposite thing. 😄 I hope I could recommend some music that’s worthwhile, Dave. Thanks for hanging out. Cheers ✌🏻

Great list - several tips on bands that I will pick up, but duet, duo? Who cares - don’t be a pill, to quote Robbie Fulks. How about two people playing together. I think Dolly Varden with Steve Dawson and Diane Christensen - the entire discography is fantastic, but anything on “Forgiven Now”

Jason Isbell? I'm not sure I can trust a man who would divorce Amanda Shires. And I realize that your whole duo/duet but was tongue in cheek but you kind of came close to being a duochebag there. (Sorry). Way better than any Spotify Americana playlist. Strong video. Definitely Best Use of a Music Stand in an Americana-themed KZbin video.

News of that divorce was a shock, but then after a little while - it made sense. They put so much of their personal life out there for the public. I don't think a relationship can survive that. I don't care how I came off with the duet/duo thing. People should be used to my sarcasm by now if they are watching regularly. It was definitely targeted at specific individuals that get a little snarky themselves, and there were text messages to said individuals regarding it. So, there was some hidden inside baseball there. Sorry not sorry. Lol Thanks for hanging out! Cheers!
