Linda's advice paid off for me. I used to only play Jacks or Better, but they don't have the 9/6 version at my favorite casino. So I found 8/5 Bonus Poker there, and I hit 4 Aces.

Good advice Linda..most casinos no longer offer 9/6 jacks or better. I did find it at the Main Street Station bar..8/5 bonus poker is good alternative..and more exciting because of the extra payoff for certain 4 of a kinds..like four 2,3,4 or 4 aces

I'm actually a big fan of 8/5 Bonus Poker. It's got some exciting play with a low risk factor and the strategy is almost completely identical to JoB, give or take a few minute exceptions to the rule. The casino I play at has 8/5 Bonus Poker on a progressive, and the progressive is in effect for 4 5-K's, and both the Royal Flush and Straight Flush (and it's at the bar, double win for me, can play while watching a game). True, it's not as exciting as Double Bonus, but it's still nice to win 200 or even 400 coins when you might usually only expect 125 on JoB. 8/5 Bonus Poker is also where I hit my first (and only) Royal Flush for $1,000. To me, JoB is kind of like watching paint dry. There's no excitement unless you hit a Straight Flush or Royal Flush, and those are very rare compared to Four of a Kind.

+Chris Gutierrez That sounds like a fun game to play.

+Chris Gutierrez Linda says the same thing about jacks or better, she loves higher volatility games. We are too chicken for double bonus or double double bonus, those losing streaks can be KILLER

+americancasinoguide If you're curious, you can find this 8/5 progressive at the second floor bar in The D Las Vegas, or just The D (used to be called The Fitzgerald). It's on Fremont Street, on the eastern end. The second floor is a vintage area with older machines, and there is a bar there called the Vue, and it has several video poker games on the machines, most of them bad, but one of them is 8/5 progressive Bonus Poker. Strangely enough, the JoB on those machines is only 7/5 from what I remember. I can't really figure out how JoB could only be 7/5 but the game that's supposed to have higher volatility is 8/5. It's like the casino doesn't check their own machines or their own pay tables. The only other game worth playing at that bar is 9/6/5 Double Bonus, and even that is not optimal. 8/5 Progressive Bonus Poker is their best game (unless they've downgraded it since the nine months that I've been there).

Since two pair pay the same as jacks or better, is it better to hold a dealt two pair or the paying pair?
@TheJackpotGents6 жыл бұрын
You would always hold two pair in Jacks or Better games, as well as 8/5 Bonus Poker, because they pay 2-for-1. Two pair pays even money on Double Bonus games. In that game you would always keep two pair unless one of them was a pair of aces. In that case, you would just keep the aces.

What is up with high variance being more risk of losing your bankroll? Imagine absolute 0 variance. Every time you bet $1.00, you collect exactly $0.99, so over time you are 100% assured to lose your bankroll. Likewise if only the Royal flush paid (and paid quite well) you are likely to lose your bankroll before finally achieving the Royal flush. So it appears risk of losing your bankroll is not linearly correlated to variance. There is such a thing as too much and too little variance.

Because your gonna lose all your money before you have a chance to hit something big, hence the high variance

I have two scenarios concerning bonus or jacks or better: dealt a flush with three to a Royal, and high pair with three to a Royal? Recently I was playing jacks or better and was dealt A,K,J of diamonds with a K of clubs, I discarded the K of clubs and hit the Royal, but if I was dealt a flush with A,K,J of diamonds should I keep the dealt flush? I think I should toss the flush and just go for the Royal. Thanks

If you have three to a royal and a high pair, keep the winning pair. Otherwise, keep three to a royal.

If a casino does have a 9/6 JOB machine, would it be wrong to play the 8/5 Bonus Poker?

This Makes no sense to me why 9/6 is downgrading when the two pairs still pay 2 to 1 why is 8/5 better it pays less
