I find that the flush draws seem to be more powerful in split-card.

Question: When you are comparing pay tables for games such as Bonus Wild, Split Card, and Dream Card, are you looking at the return percentages for the base game, or at the return percentages in tables computed for BW, SC, DC? I often hear you say that a certain game type (e.g. Deuces Wild Bonus) has the best pay table for a given game, but if you're going by the return percentages for the base game, then that's probably not correct, since different bonus features will have varying levels of benefit for different base games.

Mr. Brain at 3:45 or so they had trips with split card AA in double double. What are your thoughts on keeping the 3 kicker vs not?

@@DankMiddy (Edited, see bottom of comment) Yeah, that's an interesting question which I've never considered. Normally you'd not keep the kicker in DDB, but the math does change a bit when you already have AAA3 with chances to pull one of two remaining aces (as opposed to chances to pull the one remaining ace.) Let's do a bit of reasoning: So if you don't hold the kicker, you have 3 chances to draw one of two aces for quads (and another 2 chances to draw another kicker along with it). But if you do hold the kicker, you then have just 2 chances to draw one of the two aces for quads plus kicker. So in regular DDB, you're cutting your odds in half by holding the kicker, but in this game with a split card, your odds are 2/3. So it does push a little more towards holding the kicker. However... By holding a kicker, you also reduce your odds of getting 5 of a kind by a factor of three (since you must draw 2 out of 2, instead of 2 out of 3 which is 3 times easier). So I'm not quite sure. I think being unsure, I'd probably stick with the normal DDB strategy for now, but if I were planning on playing this game, I'd want to work out the math to know the correct answer. Do you want me to try to work it out exactly? (I can if you REALLY want to know the answer.) Perhaps pax0r has an answer already. Pax0r? (Edited): I tried calculating this by hand, and it seems very close, but very slightly in favor of keeping the kicker. But I've never tried to figure out a hand like this in split card, so it's possible I made some error.

@@MrBrain4 Thank you. I don't like playing the carnival games as the gents call them but they talked about that hand for a while and it made me curious. I think on the spot I would have held the kicker chasing 2000 credits but I did not think about 5 of a kind.

@@DankMiddy Yeah, if I did the calculation correctly (a big if), your play is very slightly better. The key is that with drawing another card, because of the split card, the odds of pulling the 4th ace when you hold the kicker is 2/3 of the odds when you don't hold the kicker. Whereas in regular DDB, it's 1/2. So that pushes you to keep the kicker.

In the first hand in split card when you were dealt the 10C, 8/9C, and 8S, have you calculated the odds of holding all three cards? I haven't done the math yet but it seems that on the one hand it will reduce the odds to get a flush, straight, or straight flush but at the same time create a higher probability of getting a two pair, three of a kind, full house, of four of a kind. Thoughts?

No we haven't. That's the reason we don't play much split card is we haven't found a strategy for it

Just wanted to point out that when you got the 4 aces and was wondering whether to save the 3 kicker, if you had kept the 3 you would not have gotten the 4th ace. Your strategy for double double worked.

My goal when playing split card is to get the 5 of a kind. That's why I play joker poker. Obviously there's a large built in advantage with that one extra card.

that Joker poker pay table has only short, 4 of a kind for 75 instead of 90 in the full pay, a hair under 99% back

best game of video poker, and most counter intuitive strategy. I just learned it on poker stars with auto hold, because I scavenge multipliers on ultimate X at my casino.

Ace deuce on a split card in double double bonus has to be the play. You have 4 cards to get 3 aces or deuces for the bonus hand.

13:14 you pick worse draw 5 5, 5 5 6 7/8 is better, 5 6 7/8 is best almost ALWAYS keep the split cards, really, and take time do do some math. As a 7 card stud player, I consider all avenues, (streets are cards dealt, avenues are possible hands)
