Watch the opening scenes of TAKEN HOSTAGE, premiering on @PBS Monday, November 14, 2022.
Unfolding like a political thriller, TAKEN HOSTAGE tells the story of the Iran hostage crisis, when 52 American diplomats, Marines and civilians were held hostage at the American Embassy in Tehran beginning on November 4, 1979. For the next 444 days, the world watched as the United States received a daily barrage of humiliation, vitriol and hatred from a country that had long been one of our closest allies. The crisis would transform both the U.S. and Iran and forever upend the focus and direction of American foreign policy.

What about the Shah of Iran? 20 years in the can. Not a peep. His brother was 47. Just a kid. There were no scraps in his scrapbook. We loved him like a brother in law.

The Shah appointed Mossadegh and the Shah dismissed Mossadegh(with great difficulty). Mossadegh was not democratically elected and Iran was not a democracy in 1953. Enough with blaming America first.

The Iranian Revolution like the Bolshevik and Chinese Cultural Revolution were pivotal moments in 20th century that not only challenged Western hegemony and imperialism but also brought a balance of power and a deterrence to Western aggression.

It is not your concern to interfere in the affairs of other nations that are not in your proximity nor historically connected with the country or its culture, even so, if Iran were your neighbor, it is not your business.

During that coup the clerics sided with the Shah and CIA. After the 1979 revolution they eliminated the victims of the 1953 coup.

For the sake of argument, let's say you're right. The response by the Khomeini government should have been to close down the US Embassy, and expell all the diplomats. Supposedly the students acted on their own, and Mr. Khomeini was as surprised as everyone else. His response should have been to take control of the hostages, and throw them out of the country. Instead, he let the situation go on, the end result being that Iran is now considered a rogue nation by most of the world. If that was the desired result... Mission Accomplished!

After seeing the way the criminal organization called OPEC manipulates the world’s petroleum, it seems the “imperial” powers made a mistake not seizing the oil producing regions from the beginning.

They only agreed to the operation and eventually conducted its implementation but really it was instigated by the British government...but it was the United States who ended up the short term benefactor
