Looking forward to doing this with our front yard. We've spent over $300 this year for professional lawn care and regardless, our lawn was half-destroyed by the dry conditions this summer. To hell with lawns. Iowa native wildflowers from now on!

I think it is great to note how incredibly important it is to plant these types of flowers now to support our pollinators like bees and butterflies that are in danger of extinction. This and planting these close to vegetable gardens can help support beneficial bugs that will help support and protect our food crops.

The seeds I purchased from American Meadows is fantastic, I planted a mini meadow and after sowing, had a little bit left and tossed it on a bald spot in the lawn, and the area is covered with wild flower seedlings, this is high quality seed, well worth the price.

Great Video. Going over a sown area with a roller is not required when sowing just prior to a good rain. 👍 😊

I think this is a good video except for the end. The only part that was not explained well was, why to mow at the end of the season. I went to your website and it did explain that the reason to mow was to keep tree saplings from taking over areas that are planted close to tree lines.

Wow, I got a little confused at the end of the FAQ's in the video about mowing, but you just clarified actually what I didn't understand. I have an area I really planted good this year under a Blue Spruce and noticed a lot of saplings popping up. Now it's clear to me what the mowing instructions prevent! But your comment made me visualize what confused me, hehe! Thanks to both you and American Meadows for helping me get ready for the coming 1st frost here in Denver, excited to get my seeds in the ground before winter this year! 🏵️🌾🌻🍄🍂🐝 🦋 🪺

If you really want the advantage of wildflowers, make sure they are native to your area. Natives are already specialized to your land. Too many of the "wildflower" seed mixes are full of species that are not even from the same continent where the mix is sold!

We loved our wildflower meadow last year. I didn’t mow it at the end of the season. I liked how it looked in the winter and the birds liked it as well. I tilled it all in the spring and the lasted again I assume we lost all our perennials doing it this way. Might try the mowing method this year with late fall sending

After the growing season and when the flowers drop their seeds, will annuals grow again the following year? Also what about colder climates, areas that get really cold and have snow? Can you winterize?

Thinking about "nuking" a steep unwalkable hillside (50' wide x almost 20' tall) with wild flowers. Currently it is full of 5-leaf ivy, poison ivy and wild grape. I've heard that sowing at first frost in fall, the repeating frost/thaw cycles will get more seeds into the soil. Any thoughts? I DO NOT want to sow crown vetch which AGWAY sells here in SW PA.

I'm working 5k feet. I use a Stihl cultivator mm56. After working the ground each direction to help cut up grass. I use my JD lawn tractor to blow cut grass or weed off my ground. So after sowing. I ise cultivator agsin to lightly to settle seeds in the ground. Big question is the JD lawn tractor to heavy to bury seeds.

Wild flower seeds require light to germinate. Don't bury them, regardless of the method.

I don't know if you reply to comments or not but 1) My dad told me to not step on the seeds or do anything to press them because I might get seeds stuck on my shoes and then they won't grow. Does he have a good point or should I still do it? I just planted them today and the soil is a little muddy. Will the rain press it down? 2) Is it a good idea to cut the flower heads off with a trimmer in late fall rather than mowing it?

I did not understand your comment about after the growing season and mowing. What did you mean about a meadow being next to a wooded area and if you do NOT mow it increases your chances of succession?

Do you seriously "lab test" each one of those little seeds? Sounds alike some bs but the % of seed seems like a better angle. If I get a bulk bag from you, is that better that a bulk bag from somebody else with sand mixed in? Elaborate
