@@KyliePaz-f8s no one is denying the fact that there are also dumb and ignorant people in Europe, but of course you have to understand that even if one of the US states is bigger than a european country it doesn't justify the lack of culture or knowledge of some parts of the US population. US is a federal state, even if its bigger than many countries each state has its own government that means that even if the country itself is huge you still have respective governments on different regions to administrate its respective population, even in Spain each autonomous community regulates its educational system following the basic structure set by the national government. So, yes, not all americans can be put in the same box, but no, the size of your country has nothing to do with the matter so stop using it as an excuse for the lack of culture some of your population has. I think there are several reasons why (north) americans might know less about other countries. For example, they are separated from all countries, except Mexico and Canada, by 2 oceans. So they aren't really close geographically to any countries besides those 2, whereas europeans have been historically very close to each other. Also americans have less historical relationship with the inception of other countries than europeans, since europeans started the Age of Exploration and the United States is the result of it. So it makes more sense that europeans know more about those places they historically explored, traded with and/or conquered. Plus the United States is a much younger country. Another reason is that the U.S. has been the global super power for decades, and it has been exporting its culture to the world (films, music, fashion, food, etc) to a greater extent that it has been importing other cultures (granted, the culture of the United States is a mix of the cultures of the people who historically built the country, but you get what I mean, they have their own distinct culture). That may change in the future, but until know that has been the case. So I think part of it is that they know less about other countries because they didn't need to know. Also the U.S. is a big country, almost as big as the geographical territory of europe, so it is a bit like they live in their own world and learn mostly about their own history and geography.

Yes a lot of ppl seem to forget that US citizens also have to learn abt every US state, sometimes their flags, and the capitals. As a Canadian, I knew EVERY QUESTION but 2 - as fast OR FASTER than ALL of the girls here today. So, being a big country so far away from so many others ISN'T an excuse. (In relation to geography, in my Canadian school - which was pretty standard curriculum-wise - NOT ONLY did we need to be able to identify where every country of THE WORLD was located AND know their capitals, we ALSO had to know all the locations of all the Canadian provinces & territories & their capitals AND - identify ALL THE AMERICAN STATES & THEIR STATE CAPITALS, as well as your COUNTRY capital. This was part of the things we learned when I was about 9 yrs. old.) Being a Super Power is NOT an excuse NOT to know about the rest of the world. Being a Super Power you have many dealings with other countries - trade, partnerships, immigration etc. Things that happen in other countries therefore affect you as well, so you SHOULD be aware of them. You also get a lot of immigrants from many other countries & for this reason alone you should learn about others & have an interest in them as they end up being a part of your country. YOU CHOOSE to take an interest in the rest of the world - or not.

My concerns about these categories are that while there may be differences between knowledge and intelligence... How can we say with certainty that there is a difference? Are there people who process knowledge better and this makes them more intelligent? If so, how can we categorize that this individual has better natural processing and how can we distinguish this from past knowledge that can optimize their understanding of the problems? Usually intelligent people read a lot of books and newspapers and know a lot of general stuff. So no, it's also cultural knowledge. You hardly have stoopid people with lot of knowledge.
@Carrie-so3ro4 ай бұрын
There are 4 points I am going to make: 1 - there is a DIFFERENCE between intelligence & ignorance Some people seem to get the 2 confused & assume if you say someone is ignorant that you are saying they lack intelligence. No, it just means the person lacks knowledge - for WHATEVER reason. It could be they AREN'T smart. It could be they were not taught. It could be they knew but forgot etc. 2 - The one girl is right. This quiz didn't JUST measure how smart/knowledgeable you were, it ALSO measured how FAST you were at hitting the buzzer - which has NOTHING to do with intelligence & only speed. 3 - Part of the American problem is that Americans are quick to come up with excuses for their ignorance. This HELPS Americans STAY ignorant. If you excuse it, you will never solve it. There is NO good reason for Americans NOT to be able to answer all of the same questions the Europeans can answer. It is SIMPLY a matter of schooling & applying yourself at school. I am a Canadian - so our country is EVEN BIGGER than the U.S. & YET I was able to answer all but 2 questions with the SAME speed as the fastest people competing - & in a NUMBER of cases, QUITE a bit faster than BOTH set of girls - esp. when neither girl knew or was fully sure. (I also knew which country EACH of those European girls was from, just by looking at the flag they were wearing.) Being a big country away from all the smaller European countries is NO excuse - esp. when NONE of those questions involved EITHER the U.S. or Europe. As to the videos showing a bunch of ignorant Americans, EVEN IF they did edit out all the more knowledgeable Americans, there should NEVER be THAT MANY ignorant ones left over! 4 - Remember also. This quiz was DONE IN ENGLISH! The language of the United States. It was NOT the language of ANY of the European girls! NOT ONE! Despite this, the European girls were able to keep up with you in both speed & knowledge. In fact their knowledge, was a certain amount better. I am NOT saying these things to be harsh to the Americans. Please believe me on this. I am saying these things ESP. with one of the American girls having studied politics & maybe working somewhere in the field - so that MAYBE when you advance in your career, you MAY be able to work on FIXING some of the educational problems that exist in America, to help your people get up there to match other countries more. That is all.
@marior.57962 ай бұрын
As an Canadian, sitting above the USofA, do you think that my assumption makes sense? I think that the argument "Americans are stupid" was in this video wrongly interpreted, because it is simplified. I would argue that americans are stupid because they say something stupid when they clearly don't know the answer (could be bad education, could be ignorance, they don't wanna learn it, whatever), but they are acting like what they are saying is totally right. Fake it 'till you make it. And something else I observed, the american girls seemed that they wanted to get the right answer, but the european seemed they (I saw it by the french girl google the flag Uruguay / Greece) wanted to know the right answer. If this sentence makes sense.

i love when people attach "smart" to when someone knows something, smart is not just knowing something is your thought process when fixing problems or how you handle certain stuff, to be very general. someone that speaks 4 languages isnt smart they simply just learned how to speak the languages, an example of smart is, a doctor but not because they know everything about medicine, is what they do with that knowledge, when surgeons go into surgery they understand how everything works and then they fix the issue, or a mechanic, same shit, ur not smart for knowing everything about cars, your are smart if you able to get that knowledge and put it into work and invent new things or improvise to fix certain problems, or even find temporary solutions etc, there is a reason why IQ test are literally a bunch of figures and shapes and lines and pictures, and not whos country flag is this

Then later on, the Spaniard woman hit the bell too hard and the American comforted her while the Spaniard was quick to say “oh but I pressed it first” when no one objected it in the first place. Then once they won, one of them gloated about winning. The problem with this video is the same mistake that many people make (all over the world), that is, confusing two completely different things, intelligence (which is extremely difficult to evaluate) and knowledge, i.e. culture. In general it's true that when it comes to culture, North Americans are in very bad shape because their school system is ridiculous, but, in fact, this has nothing to do with intelligence. Having said that.... damn!... I must say that they all fared quite badly... even the Europeans didn't shine, hesitating on some very simple things. For example how did they not recognize immediatly Argentina!!??... Damn I could have understood, for example, Montenegro! Which is a small European state... But Argentina... damn!! It's one of the largest and most famous countries in the world! But I must also say that not all the questions were as easy as the first ones, for example the last ones, the ones with Andrea, were objectively very difficult. Despite everything, in the end the result was clear, and this despite the fact that European girls also complained a lot about the school systems of their countries, highlighting the problems that certainly exist. "Some people don't have the chance of having a good educational system": See that's the thing, in many european countries, there's is a general system that ensures you to have access to education. US system is so about a finality of making business that if you don't have the money you won't access a decent school and if you do you'll have to specialize in 1 task and ignore general knowledge or other domains. I personally think the US system is dumb, i'll let you judge the effects on its population...

I was born in the U.S.A. in the 1950's, post WWII, into an American culture that taught me that Americans were exceptional. At this time in my life, every time I meet an individual that emigrated from a developed country into America, I always ask them what they thought about the average American citizens intelligence, they usually state that they were dumbfounded by the staggering ignorance of our population, except when it comes to celebrities! Most of these émigrés are multilingual and are well schooled in history, math, science, and are able to produce an elegant and coherent verbal response to my question, even if English is not there primary language. Most Americans today, grew up in an "air conditioned cocoon", replete with wealth and hyper-consumerism as there culture, always looking to "purchase a sense of self" through externalism, emulating only what they perceive as: unique, attractive, and desirable. Americans have definitely devolved into a culture of "won't you look at my appearance, wealth and stature", and this mindset was definitely exacerbated by the advent of the internet and the smartphone! Sadly, most Americans are never involved in personal "introspection, contemplation, analysis, logic, skepticism etc.", and most are definitely NOT seeking the true meaning of being alive, only "I love the way a new car smells"!

The education system in the United States is also somewhat lax in the sense that it does teach less than it could--in my opinion. Most parts of media don't have much emphasis on vocab either which perhaps is another thing... I guess it's a lazy/efficient way of doing things in not only speech but also just a lot of other things I'd think (of course it's also good if you're learning English though). Just because someone mentioned superpowers in the comments: The fact that the USA is a Super Power does not mean that Americans are intelligent on a general level. The USA is basically an extension of Europe built by the European elites, including European science and technology. Using the word "Intelligence" to classify people is a bit abusive because there are several forms of intelligence. I just wanted to say that although the Elites were successful and managed to transform the USA into what it is today, it does not mean that all residents of the country are intelligent and well educated. But it is true that many Americans think they are more intelligent than the rest of the world just because they live in a superpower. Greetings to all.

I was the only white kid in an all black school and basically as soon as I began school I was helping out my friends - we were in similiar circumstances and there were a few very bright kids - also a lot of immigrant kids from all over the world. I would wonder to myself sometimes why there were so many kids who couldnt read well pickup basic math or do very well at subjects which required generalized knowledge like science, social studies, English etc. Had a couple theories and a strong contender was that I came from a very poor family but we had a strong love of learning and would bond over television quiz games and similiar board games, we would play memory games and talk about anything that we wished to - another thing is I learned to read at a very early age about 3-4 by sitting on my moms knee while she read the bible so I would follow ner finger - and her tone til I picked up a few words - it then came quickly and by the time I entered kindergarten I was reading already - as a bonus I memorized most of the bible from Genesis to Revelations - instilling a love of wisdom, poetry, history, mythology, abstract thought and also picked up on contradictions, the religion of the old testament plus the introduction other cultures and ideas into my religion from different regions - especially the effect that Greek and Roman philosophy had on Christianity - I have had a love/nate relationship with religion but the reason I bring it up is that I noticed friends at school who also did well often had strict families who spent considerable time at church. Theres also a correlation with family - it was the best enviroment when there was 2 natural parents but its apparent that kids thrive when theres any loving support in their lives - I was a freak w my single mom so there are outliers but benerally speaking the better support kids recieve the better - even if it extended family - stepparents and if a child has gay parents the same holds true that if their home is stable and they can count on their support thekids will be all right.

You know, just France ( and just couting metropolitan ) have a lot of different topographies too, a tons, same for culture, regional culture always been a huge thing in France, just drove 100 or 200km away and you are in a different area of France, with a different culture, there is probably more different culture and historical background in one french area that you could find in the USA, same for architecture, gastronomy, history etc. France is the biggest example of that, but it was the same for all others European countries. And you have also huge country with lots of variation, but still people move, even if they are far away from others countries and if they are more poor. So the size etc is absolutely not the issue. You also have Germany who is big on the regional thing. Still we move around our countries but outside too. You differents states is just the same thing as the different Lander, or Departement, or region, canton etc that you will find in every single country of the world, it's not proper to USA. The main issue with USA is the education, that make americans really stuck to their country and clueless about what's outside. Because your education make USA seems to be the centre of the world, the most important thing etc etc Wherever we are from, each time we met an American it's hard to believe what is he saying, because most americans are just clueless about the others cultures of the world, and the general history of the world.

So I think a curricullum of Utopia could look like 1st-2nd period scince (double lessons are better anyway imo, even if you hate that subject ) 3-4th period something practical, maybe depending on the school form if already chosen or cooking and sewing and yes also for the males they can benefit from that as well 😂 😂 (besides why is that still so female cliche but most docle&banan designers and chefs are males?) and so on like switch it up...introduce health and stuff.. I mean granted our goverments would never because an educated and healthy socitiey is the last most of them need but I mean there are systems and I'll never get why people are so flipping against fusioning GOOD THINGS and rather do the same mistakes someon did years ago or not at all 😂 😂

Thsi was a little bit unfair ’cause this blond American, as I saw in others videos, is a not smart. The other American is very intelligent.
