Do you (the Americans) actually have reliable DNA references for historical tribes? I tried to research my own DNA lineage and some ancestor groups, like Pontic Greeks or "circassians" (whatever it meant 200 years ago) had no reliable DNA signatures at all. They were a mix of many races already in the Middle Ages.

@@jmi5969 Yup this. Got to wonder what datasets they use. Probably based on what other Americans think is their family tree. It's a lot of people just using dubious information at best. All you need is enough people to believe that they are X and suddenly you've got complete nonsense. It's not as if anyone is coming over here and asking us to submit DNA samples to improve their results. They're also idiots for handing over their DNA profiles over to companies who will sell it to medical companies. It's all one ball hair away and some minor legislation change from them getting denied medical insurance for some disease that they happen to have a genetic predisposition towards.

I hate it when Americans say that they "beat the British" when the people that won independence were also british
@LordranRavin
@LordranRavin Ай бұрын
Innit, the war of independence was a bunch of disgruntled Brits fighting Britain while being bankrolled by the French and the war was only really won because Britain had 1000s of other things to do as well as fight the French. The US exists because Britain made too many enemies while being stretched too thin. It was mitigating circumstances that 'won' the war for independence, not Americans (they didn't exist yet)
@another3997
@another3997 Ай бұрын
The reason they managed to beat the British was because, in part, many of those leading the American militia were actually trained by the British in military tactics. Therefore they knew what to expect. Americans forget that Britain is a tiny little island on the other side of the world. We had to send our forces and supplies by ship half way across the globe to fight. And then there is the small matter of the French, who took great delight in providing arms and mercenaries to America. Americans don't like to admit they had help and already had huge numeric and geographic advantages. 😂

Australia was not in there originally, though. They started in like.... 2017 or something. I am Norwegian, have always loved Eurovision (boycotted this year, though, for obvious reasons), and all we heard about it, really, was that it was a trial thing one year, because Australia really loves Eurovision, so they were allowed to compete once as a kind gesture, and if they did WELL, they'd be allowed to compete again the next year, and become a regular.

The first pizzeria is in New York. Most Italians had never heard of pizza until some GIs arrived in Italy during the war. But another thing to note is that the culinary tradition of putting cheese with other ingredients on a piece of baked bread is found all around the Mediterranean Sea. The age-old tradition is as Turkish and French as it is Italian.

The Italian name at 1:43 It's actually not uncommon to change your name (or take up a new one) when you move somewhere, if your real name is unfitting or hard for the locals to pronounce. A friend of mine is Finnish with a very Finnish name and when she moved to Spain, she took up the Spanish name "Renata". Her real first name was almost impossible to pronounce for the locals, so she had to find a solution. Other than that, think of all the East Asians that take Western first names to make it easier for Westerners. Some of my Chinese colleagues run with names like Lilian, Frank, Nina or Lili, because those are easier for us to pronounce than, say, Jianxia or Xiaozhang.

The thing with Eurovision is, countries dont send established professional musicians. Its like how the Olympics used to be organized in the past, if you were already a professional, making a living doing a sport fulltime, you werent allowed to compete because we already have professional leagues for those people. It would be unfair to countries that dont have a whole scene of paid professional football clubs if for example England could show up with their all-star squad. Its not like the US could send Drake to Eurovision if they were allowed to enter lmao.
