a lot of americans have water boilers on tap that can just spit out near boiling water from their tap. there are water coolers that always keep a small amount of water boiling so you can easily make tea or instant coffee. we just dont usually have a separate appliance for it. coffee makers as well are basically just electric kettles like a kuerig. if you run a keurig with no pod, you just get near boiling water.

Tbf im in the UK and now have gone one step further and have an instant boiling water tap, but that aside, you may be able to help out with this but i once heard that due to the UK running 220volts and the US only running 110, a kettle in the uk would take a min or 2 to boil but in the US would take 5-10 mins so actually microwaving or boiling it on the stove top was probably actually quicker anyway, but its just what i have heard, wondering if it really takes that long for an electric kettle to boil there

Generally, you get healthcare for free on the NHS but dentistry and opticians have changed. It's free up to a certain age, then you start paying and it's bloody expensive. You can get concessions if you are on benefits or earn under a certain amount. A lot of industries are turning private because the NHS is just not what it once was unfortunately, its heavily underfunded and has management issues.
@peterang691218 күн бұрын

I feel like Hollywood movies come from a fairytale angle and extrapolate out from there. Whether from the writing and cinematography through to the concepts explored. British movies tend to come from the angle of realism, it feels darker and more raw. A good example of this in one show (I realise this isn’t a movie), is Top Boy. The original was very British feeling, dull and drab cinematography to accurately depict life in inner city London, and the writing wasn’t overly dramatic (it told a relatively believable story). The reboot was Americanised, the colours were lifted and everything made brighter, and the writing became more fantastical. One style is no better than the other but differences between the two styles can be used to different effect.

The Red haired girl made me laugh, when she was like oh yea when I think of a kettle I think electric. Well yea because your like Twenty years old, they were not always electric. Everything has to come from somewhere, and I understand that's all she knows. But don't young people realize that everything modern they have, is a continuation of something else. Everything get's better over time, I think we just take it for granted that in the beginning most inventions were....not great but over time have become essential. But anyway I often find that amusing, that we take a lot of what we have for granted.

In the US, it takes almost twice as long to boil the same volume of water due to the difference of household appliance voltage being half that of the UK and Europe. (120v & 240v)

I saw one American commentator saying that the British needed to come ‘up to date’ by using the Imperial measurement system. Which we actually invented, during the British Empire phase of our history. And we still do use it, in combination with Metric. So no points there. We need guns to make our country safer? That’s like ‘f@cking for virginity’ - I don’t think there’s any need to argue this, plus I couldn’t find a crayon font to write it with. I believe he also tried to mock the MOT system, which means you aren’t allowed to drive a vehicle that is unsafe on the road (tread on tyres to shallow to grip road surface safely, or so worn down that they’re ready to burst any second). Or brakes that don’t work properly, which makes stopping your car in traffic less safe, etc etc. I’m all for not being part of someone else’s road traffic accident, thank you very much. If you can’t afford a safe vehicle, then don’t drive. Your freedom to drive stops where it threatens the safety of my family and I whilst on the road. As to not having Kettles, two simple reasons for that. The Americans operate a lower voltage system domestically which means the kettle would take ages to boil - think about 6 or 7 minutes? - and the favourite drink in America is brewed coffee, for which you don’t need a kettle. I also expect if you really want a kettle, they should be pretty easy to find in America, their shops have vast selections of almost everything. So, they don’t own kettles for pretty logical reasons.

With UK TV/films, your not always sure the good guys are going to win. Some Americans do use kettles, but it's rare. It comes down to power supply, in the UK we run at 220v-240v, in the US it's 120v. Because of the lower power it takes twice as long for an eletric kettle to boil 6-7 min's, whereas the UK 3 min's. So it's just as easy to boil water in a pan, on the stove. Military time (US) = 24 hour clock (UK/EU). In the UK, and Europe, we are more used to it because of public transport, trains and bus's timetables use the 24hr clock.

Please, if you don’t know what you are talking about please refrain from speaking, i pay about £4500 a year in taxes for the NHS, given the average health insurance per year in America is almost $9000, and you still have to pay thousands out of pocket on top of that, and you are incorrect about the government deciding ‘whether’ we get treatment or not, absolutely nobody in this country gets denied treatment, the government don’t get to decide, if you are sick, you are treated, end of story, unlike a system where by your insurer can decide not to cover you leaving you unable to afford treatment, essentially denying you treatment, you have this so backwards, you pay double in insurance to what we pay for national insurance and you actually can be denied treatment where as we cant, if you are sick, you are treated, and you got no bill for it, you pay 9000 a year and they can still slap you with a 20000 bill if they want

@@digbydark9313 completely agree, id understand if they were trying to take 60% of your earnings but here your first 12000 earnings are tax free, after thats its 20% total with that split between national insurance and income taxes, in total i pay about £600 a month and that covers my health care (no bills at all upon point of use) roads, houses, communities being built, the police and fire services, so many more things, and yet that figure i pay alone is probably less than a lot of health insurance payments in the US?
