Foie gras is unethical not because of the method of force feeding, you're basically forcing the bird's liver to become cirrhotic to the point where it becomes fatty. The amount of fat on the liver seen naturally isn't as profound as those that undergo force feeding. Also there's the subject of common practices of abuse to the birds, including wiring the beak shut to ensure that regurgitated food can't be expelled. btw I've had Foie gras, I'm not a mega-vegan

Actually, you don't necessarily have to force-feed geese to make foie gras. But of course, the process is waaaaaaay longer. That's why so many people resort to force-feeding.
@TacoPoweredMatt5 жыл бұрын
There's a Michael Pollan documentary that highlighted a french farmer that makes foie gras the traditional way. He created a goose sanctuary and the geese just land and chill on his land gorging themselves on the food occurring naturally as part of their migration path. So long as there's readily available food, they just stick around, fattening themselves. Foie gras is amazing, and if you can source it well, you don't need to feel bad about any ethical issues.
@KaladinVegapunk Жыл бұрын
Honestly i love animals, i work with dogs, people who abuse pets are monsters .. But it's weird people would balk at fois gras like, it's okay to kill the duck and eat it, but not force feed it before death? Seems kind of silly. What does it matter how you feed them before they're butchered for tasty liver meat?

There is no such thing as a street with a 30 degree angle. So a 30 degree angle is a 57.7% grade, meaning for every 100 feet you go forward, you go up 57.7. The steepest street in the world is only 37% or 35% (there is some dispute whether its Canton Ave. in Pittsburgh or Baldwin street in New Zealand)

It had more and better ingredients than what most of us eat on a daily basis (including yam) - and no weird ingredients either. I tried it one day and it ended up being really good. Not something I'd eat for dinner but for something we often gawk at just the mention of it was definitely palatable.

Years ago I was working for Whole Foods for their media in one of their locations and when I was on the shop floor was witness to a lady red in the face with anger cause we didn’t sell froie gras and when it was explained to her how it was made and it goes against the ethos of the store, she proceeded to get the manager and yell at him and she simple couldn’t understand how it could be called in humane.
