On the war memorial is a plaque to a young Cornish merchant sailor, Davey Hawkins. In 1982, during the Falklands war, he saved my life. He managed to get me out of a compartment on board our ship when I couldn't manage it due to my wounds. Unfortunately, Davey never made it home. He was lost that day. In 1996 I moved to Newquay so I could visit his memorial as often as I could. Thank you, young man. Your sacrifice allowed me to live.

I spent a couple of weeks visiting Prehistoric sites, Neolithic standing stones,Bronze age stone circles, and Iron age hill forts. The Lands End area is full of ancient sites 3 to 5 thousand years old. I would recommend a trip to the Minack theatre on the cliffs,it's a Roman style ampitheatre with the sea as a backdrop to the stage. Watching your video has made me want to visit again,it's a magical place. :-)

I remember Newquay very well. I was a child and got severely sunburnt. Skin shredded like a snake. The Gulf Stream flows past Cornwall and keeps it a bit warmer, Palm trees grow on the coast. You cannot beat a good 'Scrumpy'. We mostly bought our pasties from Tintagel. Often the pasties had fish and veg. The tin miners took the pasties down the mines. Just think how many pirates landed at The Lizard.

The Lizard may look pretty on a summer's day, but in the days of sailing ships this finger of land projecting into the Channel was often the first landfall after an Atlantic crossing. In fog or stormy weather before powerful engines and radar eased the sailors' lot thousands of ships have been wrecked here over the centuries and many thousands of seafarers lost.

It still makes me happy to see your family exploring the UK. My father visited Cornwall every year for about 15 years. He stayed in Mevagissey most years - because he wasn't naturally adventurous - but he made a special point of exploring many different places on every trip. He could have continued that for decades without visiting the same place twice. Its a lovely county. I'd not been there for many years but I love all the little fishing villages, so made a point of going last year. Now, I don't mind cold, wet weather (being a true Brit :-) ) but I had the most gloriously warm & sunny week. It was heaven! Think I might try to get back again this year.

You made the right choice! Cornwall has an amazing coastline and beautiful countryside in general. One of the best things about the landscape is its variety. If you wanted to film a western in the UK Bodmin Moor is the place. If you want to drive through beautiful villages of grey Cornish stone this is the place. With exotic names (like Zennor, St Austell, Penzance, etc.), the vast majority being Celtic in origin, Cornwall is the place. St Michael’s Mount, which becomes an island when the tide comes in is here. Go to St Ives, which has long been an artists colony due to the quality of the light. And due to them there are many art galleries there. Not to mention the westernmost outpost of the Tate Gallery. Head further west and come to the western most point in England at Lands End (but not for all of Britain, that honour goes to some place in Northwest Scotland as does the most northerly point on the Island of Britain, John O’Groats). But curiously the place that’s the most southerly point on the Island, the Lizard, receives less attention than Lands End. Cornwall’s exotic names, and Celtic influence lends an air of mystery and enchantment, which may be why so many novels have been written set there, by authors such as Susan Howatch, Jean Plaidy, Daphne Du Maurier (My Cousin Rachel, Rebecca), Winston Graham (Poldark) to name just a few. There’s so much to do and see. Have fun!

Thank y'all for visiting the part of the UK where i was born and raised!! I totally agree with the comment abut 'avoiding' the more 'touristy' places. There are many places with fantastic scenery, both landscape and seascape. On the north coast, you have the Bristol Channel/Irish sea/Atlantic Ocean. To the south, you have the English Channel/Atlantic Ocean. I'm glad you found some 'proper' Cornish pasties to enjoy. A bit of the history surrounding the pasty. It was often eaten by miners (whether tin, lead or copper). The pasty would often be in 2 parts, with the meat and vegetables at one end of the pasty and apple (with or without clotted cream) at the other end with a pastry 'dam' separating the 2 parts. The miners would hold the pasty by the crimped edge to avoid ingesting the toxins that they'd accumulated on their hands whilst working. Once the pasty had been devoured, the crimped piece would simply be dropped to the bottom of the mineshaft.

A great video. You do get about as a family a lot to see our beautiful country. The secret to those country roads is to always be aware of where the last turn in, point was. Another great video guys. I like that fact that you don't feel the need to talk the entire time throughout your videos , you know when to let the visuals and scenery do the talking. Keep up the great work and fingers crossed for some decent weather this summer for you to enjoy on your travels !

Hi Chris, Jess & family, I think you’ve visited more places in the U.K than us natives, hope they’ve lived up to your expectations and you weren’t disappointed too many times, you’ve made me think why my wife and myself have just spend £150.00 on new passports as we have so many interesting and beautiful places right here on our doorstep. Your making some great memories for yourselves and gaining personal knowledge not based on hearsay, bland food and rubbish weather all the while etc. Safe & Happy Travels.🏴🇬🇧👍

We have definitely loved exploring, and everything has lived up to expectations. Sometimes it's just really hard to find parking, which is sometimes a bummer. We are truly blessed to be able to explore and just appreciate where we get to call home. Also, we're so thankful we get to share our adventures with you all. Thank you for your lovely support and time! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x

Enjoyable video again Jess. You’re so enthusiastic and happy that it would be difficult not to like any video you put up and Chris seems so laid back that nothing seems to bother him at all. So you asked for places to visit, well as a Yorkshire man I’d have to recommend the Yorkshire coast. I don’t know if you like birds and bird watching but there is an RSPB reserve called Bempton cliffs, at this time of year and for next couple of months it’s seabird heaven, you’ll see thousand of Gannets, Razorbills, guillemots, kittiwakes and the bird everybody wants to see the Puffin. Obviously you wouldn’t want to drive all that way just for that, ( I would, but that’s because I love Bempton 😊) so other places to visit are Flamborough head ( gorgeous ) Filey and Filey brigg, Scarborough, Bridlington and if you didn’t mind driving a bit further up the coast, then Whitby is a must, plus Robin hoods bay and Staithes. I know it’s a bit of a trek from Norfolk so wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t think it was worth it and if the weather is good it’s even better.

Hi guys! Glad you loved Cornwall, and did not get caught up in the ferocious 'Scone Wars' ( 1784-2024 ) between Devon and Cornwall regarding cream first or jam first, but the skimishing is mainly on the borderlands, and the Exmoor ponies have not yet given their verdict!

Hi Jess, Chris and kids. It’s great to see that you made it down to Cornwall. I have a recommendation for you, if you’re still down there (or for your next visit). If you go to the village of Mevagissey on the south Cornwall coast, you can take a foot ferry along the coast to the village of Fowey (pronounced “Foy”). You get a different view from the ferry and can spend a few hours in Fowey before returning on the ferry to Mevagissey, which is also a great place to see in itself. When arriving in Mevagissey you have to park in the main car park on the approach road as the village streets are tiny/narrow and will be fairly crowded with pedestrians. Plus I don’t recall seeing much room to make a turn and wouldn’t want your car to go off the harbour wall. Anyway maybe you will decide to add this to your itinerary. Oh … there are some nice pubs around Cornwall, especially the ones at the many fishing villages, such as Mevagissey. You should give them a try for the beer and food.

We will be sure to put that on the list if we are able to make it back. We are planning on going back. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Chris

I love Cornwall but I feel disappointed you just motored through our lovely county of Devon. (the place that the cream tea actually comes from) I know you are not familiar with our network of footpaths you would have seen more of the fabulous Lizard area had you parked somewhere near the old folks crossing with their walkway backpacks and walked down the track to the coastal footpath. You can find these on OS maps etc. You will get the best views, find it quieter and take the dogs as long as they are on a lead. You can walk to another village etc and get the bus back to your car if you do some legwork on the planning which is worth the effort. Love your videos, keep them coming!

I'm told you can get good "Cornish" pasties in Wisconsin, near the UP! Apparently quite a lot of Cornish tin miners migrated to Wisconsin in Victorian times and took pasty making with them.

So love Cornwall, if you go back try to go Mevagissy and Looe, both outstanding. Up the road in North Devon you have Croyde bay and Woolacombe both worth a visit. Nearer to and in Bristol, Clifton, Tyntesfield estate, Avon Valley Railway, Ashton Court, SS Great Britain, M Shed and The Matthew. Bristol has many connections to the original colonies so you see a lot about the history of slavery as well as the Georgian house which was a slave traders house from the 17th century. All museums are free except the SS Great Britain, Cabot tower is also free offering panoramic views across Bristol and the Severn estuary. Last thing to note if you have any artists in the family Banksy grew up in Bristol and many of his original street art still survives.

Lands end is considered the most southerly point of england, but its not, its the most southwesterly, it basically sticks out at the end of england the most. But the Lizard is actually the most southerly point, its also where the lighthouse and massive fog horn is. i used to live about 10 miles away from there

It's many years since my last visit to Corwall. Lovely video as usual. I was slightly disappointed with some new build houses that I saw. As a country we seem to be building everywhere without reference to the sites; it is gradually spoiling the countryside. And it is also interfering with our flora and fauna. There has been such a great loss of the aforementioned in my nearly 80 yrs, and I find it heartbreaking.
