There are only 40k Americans living in Spain according to the latest data available from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) . So I don't think that is enough to say that Americans are ruining Spain. I think it's the short term rentals that are driving up the prices.

And if it’s mostly Americans doing that then I can see what they mean, perhaps people are seeing the beginnings of what’s to come, if it’s continued in that trajectory. It will be a repeat of other hot spots. Again, I doubt it’s just the Americans. There has to be a balance. Of course the local governments can help ensure that balance.

A serious problem with Americans coming to Spain is that they drive up the housing prices, in particular for rented apartments. Remember that salaries are very low in Spain compared to the USA. So yes, the increasing influx of Americans is negative for the local community imho (except of course for those locals who live off tourists and expats).
@ANTOANETTA Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. For me was interesting to explore this issue. It is debatable if global economy is driving prices up… and I think the whole world is reshaping.
@timschmitt7550 Жыл бұрын
@@ANTOANETTA Yes, I just wanted to point out that this development can be negative for locals who have to pay rent and live off a regular job in Spain, which usually pays little (in Madrid and Barcelona not quite as bad as in Valencia). I believe that most Americans who move to Spain come with a nicely filled bank account, which they have previously earned by working in the high-paying US economy. I can understand those that now want to enjoy life in the sunny and, compared to the USA, still relatively inexpensive Spain, but as I said this gentrification process also has losers.
@AvFenix55 Жыл бұрын
Prices were already rising whether Americans came or not. A few hundred Americans coming to a city with 800,000 inhabitants has no impact. The city is home to many people from different parts of Europe, especially from the EU. The problem is not that people come from outside to live, but what you have to ask yourself is why there are builders who are 2 years late to be given a building permit to build, or because the government passes laws that discourage owners to put their properties for rent.

This year that number will almost certainly be exceeded. No, I don't think that a few tens of thousands more tourists will pose a problem for the cities of Spain. Inflation is natural in all countries of the world but the one that occurred in the last year and a half caused by the war in Ukraine has caused inflation to skyrocket throughout the world... and Spain is no exception.

Swings and roundabouts. People have always moved. When people find something nice everyone wants it and price goes up. Same with products and same for neighbourhoods. In one aspect it’s bad for locals as they get priced out. But then there are locals who benefit. New money comes in and that creates new economic opportunities. The locals who benefit enjoy and the ones who don’t get resentful. The local gov needs to manage it properly and make rent controls on areas to make sure locals can still live locally. I'd like to say: 1.- Thank you again for the video, is brave. 2.-Airbnb, well regulated, it's not an issue at all, as immigration or expats, well regulated are beneficial. Many families need an Airbnb for many reasons, and many Airbnb owners need those families to pay the mortgages. 3-The real danger, it's the investors that look for trendy cities around the globe and buy 5 or 10 properties in those cities to cash with the digital nomads or newcomers. It's called speculation with a basic need, and sadly I have seen it's getting very popular in Valencia (by valencians too). If a single man could buy the whole city, we would finish as Venecia, a thematic park. At the end is a question of numbers, and regulation (sorry for the liberals out there).

Ruining Valencia? I generally enjoy your viseos--hard to look away--but this is absurd. It would be like if someone made a video asking people if Eastern Eurooeans are ruining Los Angeles. The question answers itself.

It is called gentrification, it's a real problem in some places, but I don't think it applies to Eastern Europeans in LA.
@solveigsolveig22497 ай бұрын
Gentrification by this people has already ruined Valencia for locals. They have been expelled from their own city.

Don’t buy 10 houses in Spain. There’s not law protection against squatters if you own a second home or vacation home. If you can’t afford Valencia, this one is surrounded for small cities and towns like Castellón de la Plana or Sagunto that are way cheaper and with the train you are like less than 30 minutes away.

Some thoughts for people moving to Valencia because I have been many times... its not a great place for singles, its best for married people, couples, or people that don't care about dating.. Its beautiful, but you might get bored, its Not Barcelona or Madrid.. still big, but still.. Spanish people get a little annoying after awhile.

Hello, 🥀🌹🌷🌻🌻🌻🐞🐞🐞May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin.Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
