Josh and Kalie from ExpatsEverywhere have been stuck in The United States due to Covid-19 and the travel bans. Things are easing up and they are finally able work on their documents to move to Portugal. They vlog along the way to share their journey with everyone to see how it's done. Subscribe to join the journey!
In this vlog, they talk about the latest Covid restrictions and what they need to do to get tested before their flight. They have found a place that will work so they want to share those details with you. They have also learned from the Embassy in DC that it has to be the RT-PCR test before departure. It can't be the rapid test. Also in this vlog, they get clarification on income details and proof of funds.

Just wanted to say hello and thank you for posting your D7 journey. We applied for ours on September 1st through VFS Global in DC and are anxiously awaiting. Seeing your journey has helped calmed my nerves a bit. Thanks for making these vids. You have a new subbie here!

Thanks so much for these videos. Really helpful to see the actual process as it happens and all the little surprises that pop up along the way. We would be submitting with the San Francisco embassy so it’s really helpful to read the comments from people on the west coast who are a few months ahead of us in the process. I’m beginning to think there will be this tiny, tiny window of opportunity to leave before the fall Covid resurgence hits in Europe and things shut down again there. Ugh. Hope you’re able to make the move smoothly!

Thanks for sharing the experience. That is very odd that they ask for funds in a Portuguese bank. Did they say it's a new rule? It was not mentioned in other people who got the D7 visa.

You're welcome. Obviously, we're not sure how new of a rule it is, but it doesn't seem to be an issue in this case due to Covid. Are you looking to make the move soon? - Josh & Kalie

Please share videos are you move along the process. Also do you mind sharing the contact info of "living" company in Portugal? I wasn't able to find it.

Thanks for the information. We will be going through the process next spring of 2021, and hope to be in Portugal mid-July. From what I can tell, the SF embassy requires an in person interview. I’m assuming they will be open by next spring. Does anyone know if in person interviews are definitely required there? Also, we’ll be moving to Porto too, so any information you have on finding housing (furnished rentals) and neighborhoods and areas in and around Porto would be wonderful. Thanks and good luck to you guys.

Thanks for the question and thank you for wishing us well. Obviously things can change. We're currently not required to go to DC for the interview, but things could certainly be different in DC or SF in the future. Right now due to COVID-19, SF is still shutdown and some visas are being processed out of jurisdiction. Have you seen some of the other vlogs that we've done? We talk about all the stuff we've done so far and housing too. If we indeed get our visas accepted, we will continue vlogging about living there. We'll also do a city profile for Porto like we do for our Review/Preview show We would love to have you as a subscriber as we're making our way to 10k and beyond! - Josh & Kalie

Love these videos! My fiancé and I are planning to move to Lisbon in December and we’re just getting started figuring all of this out. Did you have to meet with the consulate in person? Do you have a checklist you can share? Have you found a good airline for traveling with a dog? So many questions! 😊 This information is so helpful!!
@ExpatsEverywhere
@ExpatsEverywhere 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Hannah. Just seeing this. Yes, there are good airlines for dogs. KLM is one of the best. We're flying a combo of AirFrance and KLM from MIA to OPO. One thing to consider is that we're flying with our dog in cabin and we hoping you're not flying in December with the dog in cargo, that might be really cold. Check with the airline on temperature controlled pet cargo areas. Kalie is really keen to make a video specifically about pet travel to Portugal once we arrive. Yes, Kalie has a checklist. Email us at expatseverywhere@gmail.com and she'll take care of that for you. Put subject CHECKLIST. No, we aren't required to meet with the consulate in person. It surprised the heck out of us too! Obviously, this "moving to" isn't finished but we're now under 23 days til our flight and we haven't gotten our visas back yet! - Josh & Kalie

Hello, I just got an email from Patricia at the DC consulate regarding my application. She stated that I need to have " Proof of active Portuguese bank account with disposable funds, and Please send us this document by email as soon as possible, without it your visa might not be approved." I already have my NIF, but I don't have a PT bank account as I can't get over there without the D7 visa to open one, because of Covid?? Catch 22, really. How did you respond to that email and what exactly did you do or say? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

We feel you. We don't know if they're changing the situation/rules by the minute or what, but we basically told them that we would get a NIF and deposit money when we arrived and that we couldn't do it another way, and they said okay. Our guess is that we were front of the line when things opened back up from the the US and EU restrictions back in June/July. If they don't accept that, then, it's possible to have a lawyer open a bank account for you. The bummer is that going this route will cost extra money, but there are lawyers who do this kind of thing from what we've seen. Thanks for reaching out. Please let us know if you need anything else and how you get along. - Josh & Kalie

@@ExpatsEverywhere Thanks! I have been using a local Lisbon service to help with my application that was submitted Sept 16 without the "bank" requirement that has NOW been added. My service has already sent me my NIF back in Sept, and just yesterday opened a bank account for me locally! I should be in Lisboa next Friday Nov 13th!!!! Hi Cheryl, we've actually answered all of that stuff in our other vlogs, except the special vaccinations question. The answer to that is no, no special vaccinations are required.
