Before they changed the car from that Suzuki Liana, he was beaten by Ellen Mcarthur, she had (probably still holds) the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation in a yacht. Edit: She did that in 2005, was beaten in 2008. But she's still only one of four people who managed a world tour without stopover or assistance. She did it in 71 days. (Some quick Wikipedia-ing.)

She also circumnavigated Great Britain on her own .... when she was 19! I am the same age as her pretty much - I was not circumnavigating anything but the local pubs in 1995, lol

I’m glad you put that on here. I remember being a little bit fed up of hearing about the “oh-so-bloody-wonderful” Ellen McArthur at the time. Then she was on Top Gear, I watched the interview and I was instantly hit by all the things that everyone must’ve noticed before me. Charismatic, humble, funny, just a joy to watch. I’m gonna try and find that clip, might be worth recommending to KB. (Also, wasn’t she made, like, a Dame or something?).

lawsuits for injuries wouldn't even be a thing if you had universal healthcare. The fact that there is a monopoly making people billionaires on people getting sick or dying from injuries, means that people wouldn't be bothered to sue if they were able to get treated without being made bankrupt

Oh, you gullible child... you think that thousands of people aren't getting rich in universal healthcare countries? You think that if the government (so a bureaucracy like the DMV) is in control of your healthcare they'll actually give you real healthcare? If they don't what are you going to do? Complain? Haha! All the doctors will be employed by the government too, so you think they'll help you?

Boomer, these old Top Gear vids are iconic in the UK. Jodie Kidd, the supermodel, pisses over most of the boys and ended up racing for Maserati in their Cup Series. She now has her own YT car channel called Kidd In A Sweetshop. Oh, have fun in Greece, great food and now the new wines are very drinkable.

Would love to see a reaction video to a complete Top Gear episode, as watching small segments doesn’t always give you the complete picture of what is happening. The ‘Special’ episodes were amazing. Would love to see you watch the Argentina episodes, however they were split into two 1 hour segments so they would be long videos but worth it.

I did an exercise with your troops near Louisiana and drove to Dallas for my RNR down one of those long straight roads in what can only be described as a monster of a hired vehicle. I stopped off at a small shop in the middle of nowhere and was questioned where I was from. Amazingly because I had a northern British accent the shop owner refused to believe I was from England until I did a Hugh Grant impression.

Sign posts and the like you have to experience Ireland. Not too bad now but back in the day I was driving through Dublin looking for the road to Dublin Airport eventually found it and the sign was about half the size of a piece of A4 paper. Also roundabouts......the signs are 300-400 yards up the road so it is pot luck which exit to come of haha

The thing that is annoying in UK,is traffic lights still working after midnight when there is next to nothing else on the road!So you sit at a red light with nobody else about,i think other countries in Europe keep their lights on amber which means give way if you have to,but if there is nobody coming you can just go!!!

If I recall Jimmy Carr won that competition; which was the first reasonably priced car race. It went on for a few years but the leader board got full and the car got old so they switched to a second competition; which Jimmy finished bottom of. His aggressive driving combined with a bit of rain and he span out constantly. I think he was something like 30 seconds slower (possibly he just did it for comic affect as the rain meant he wasnt going to win)

He was fastest in that series (5) the actual fastest person when they retired that car (end of series 7) was Helen MacArthur. The reason he was last in the next car was because they changed the rules they were allowed to do a couple of test laps then the final lap was the timed lap, and he spun it on the timed lap.

Signposting for villages in the in the UK is determined by local rivalries.. If the town north of another town.. They will not fully signpost a direct route. I lived in a market town that has a famous cattle market. And the town 10 miles south of it has the word Market in its name. The local council refuses to send business to that town. Thus they don't sign post it. This is common around the UK.

There is a flip side to the US's notoriously litigious culture. Its justice system is also very efficient - or used to be anyway. I was too little to remember this, but my late father told me about a time when we were living in Denver in the late 70s, and he - being British and bit naïve about US traffic laws (they are not optional like they seem to be in the UK), he failed to stop at a stop sign and, to his surprise, was immediately pulled over by some kind of stealth cop and ticketed. Ten dollars! Now, ten bucks was a lot of money back then, so my mother leapt into action. She had spotted that the line at the intersection was faded. She had her Kodak Instamatic with her and took a picture of the line (she's still got it!). Then, she told the cop that they'd like to contest the ticket in court, which amused him quite a lot, apparently (crazy Brits and all that). But, sure enough, they went to the local court a few days later and told the judge about the faded line and showed him the photograph. He was so impressed that he told them that while their defence was somewhat flimsy, he would cut the fine by five dollars as a reward for a good effort. So that was my folks' one and only experience of the US justice system in three years living there, and they were mightily impressed with it. Much better than the UK's, that's for sure - or so they told me - where some barely trained local magistrate probably would have had them arrested because they had the wrong case in front of them. That can happen!

Just as a heads up KB - Clarkson and the gang (not so much James May) are very divisive here in the UK, well Clarkson especially. You're not going to know the 'off-show' dynamics, interviews, general media output that the UK has so you may not be aware. Seemingly as he got more rich he got more obnoxious and went from straight talking hero to knob pretty quickly. I'd say easily 50/50 of your subscribers will love/hate him. Just a heads up. Si.
