Monty Python's flying circus WAS a TV show which lasted for 3 series. In all honesty, it was a bit hit and miss as the Pythons will happily tell you themselves. Some of the sketches are the best things you will have seen and some are very tedious. They subsequently made a few films. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life are all new content, while And now for something completely different is a compilation of the best sketches from the TV series redone and with new segueways between the sketches. Also Live at the Hollywood Bowl is exactly what it sounds like but also has some different stuff than And now for something completely different.

Monty Python are a group of comedians, consisting of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. They started with a TV series, called Monty Python’s Flying Circus, a surrealist sketch show, which run for 4 seasons, although the last season was short and did not include Cleese, who didn’t want to do another season. They also made three movies. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, about King Arthur and his knights and their quest for the Holy Grail. Life of Brian, about a man named Brian, who was born next door to Jesus and gets mistaken for the messiah. And finally, The Meaning a Life, closer to the TV show as it was more a collection of sketches rather than full story like the previous two movies, although the sketches have a running theme of the stages of life.

Python was essentially a comedy troupe who done movies too but the bread and butter was the hilariously funny tv show. I would say IMO that the closest example in North America was a Canadian 90's show called Kids in the hall.

Most of the cast started in the 60's with many other great comedians at the Cambridge Footlights Review, they did other stuff before and after Monty Python. Another trio called The Goodies started there, Tim Brooke Taylor (RIP), Bill Oddie and Graeme Garden are hard to find on youtube but their episode Kung Fu Capers did result in a man laughing to death. Found their 5 minute Christmas and linked on Discord. Have also put on discord pre Monty Python job interview sketch with John and Tim recently. The Holy Grail movie is an absolute classic you will love it, next one is Life of Brian, another classic. Third movie was a load of skits, The Meaning of Life they were offered a ton of cash to make another but had writers block so resorted to what made them in the first place. It is also a classic.

Monty Python's Flying Circus The funniest series EVER in my opinion, its just so utterly bonkers. Its a bunch of crazy skits that blend into eachother. My all time fave is "The Spam Sketch" Literally, when I was a kid I rewound and watched it about 100 times and was still crying with laugher at the woman's reaction 😂🤣 you have to watch it

It was a show which ran for four seasons - after it finished the team that created it started making movies, of which "The Life of Brian" is arguably the best. The sketches are pretty odd - many of them don't have punchlines and just disappear into the next sketch. An acquired taste, but if you're in the mood for them they're hilarious.

Monty python flying Circus ran for 4 series. 3 series with the full cast and the four series ran but without John cleese. As he was beginning working on writing fawelty towers. They made the first of the four films a sort of completion of the best of the TV series, while finishing series 4. And the rest of the film's later after they finished the TV series.

They then, in 1971, released film called And Now for Something Completely Different, which was basically just a series of sketches, the same as they had been doing before. Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl, a recording of their live show performed in Los Angeles in 1982 and then Monty Python's The Meaning of Life was their final big screen release.

M.P. was a tv series titled Monty Python's Flying Circus and some of the sketches were written by the most influential writer of British comedy the late great Spike Milligan. His Q series was an experience . When you have time try to see an evening with Spike Milligan where he performed to a celebrity audience when he was rather old.He even had the German paratrooper who shot at him during the war in the audience.
