Americans react to Donald Trump's guilty verdict

Donald Trump has been convicted of fraud by a New York jury that declared he was guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a payment made to a porn star during his tumultuous 2016 campaign for the White House.
The verdict made him the first former president in American history to be convicted in a criminal court. It came in the midst of a presidential campaign, sometimes conducted in a gloomy courthouse corridor, in which Trump, 77, could be returned to the White House months after a judge has decided whether or not to send him to jail.

The Stormy Daniels story should have come out in 2016 election though, and it very likely would have changed votes. The whole reason no one knew about his affair with a pornstar while his wife was at home with their young kid is because of what this case was about: DJT directed the falsification of the records and did so as part of an illegal cover up. That secondary crime was not outlined nor did the jurors agree unanimously on the secondary crime. Ramos v. Louisiana in 2020 outlined how it must be unanimous throughout the entire criminal charge. Also in Andres v. United States, SCOTUS determined that giving the jury specific instructions about unanimity was not done properly. Also recently in Smith v United States in 2023 states that "The requirement of unanimity extends to whatever verdict the jury may return - not to a portion of it only, but to all of it". This includes the secondary crime that was supposedly concealed. This will be tossed

As I understand it, he paid a porn star hush money to be quiet about having sex with him. That's legal, but not when you falsify business records about it and violating campaign finance rules.
