A couple of good quotes/lines from Dave Lister here concerning Pot Noodle - “I tell you one thing. I've been to a parallel universe, I've seen time running backwards, I've played pool with planets, and I've given birth to twins, but I never thought in my entire life I'd taste an edible Pot Noodle." After searching everywhere for food “Just a pot noodle. Oh - and I found a tin of dog food on the tool shelf.' Misery hissed through Lister's gritted teeth. 'Well,' he said finally. 'Pretty obvious what gets eaten last. I can't stand pot noodles.”

Because most of our commercial TV stations can be seen nation wide they can be viewed by 65 million viewers. This means advertising agencies used to have big budgets and could get the best scriptwriters, producers and directors to make ads. Indeed a number of Hollywood's most respected British directors started by making adverts in the UK. For example Ridley Scott (Alien, Thelma and Louse, The Martian, Gladiator, Blade Runner etc) and many other directors you might know started their careers in TV commercials here.

The first time I ever tried a Pot Noodle was when visiting family in Swindon for the weekend. On the Saturday I was asked if I wanted Pot Noodle and chips for lunch as it was my cousin Paul's favourite. I had no idea what that even was, but said yes anyway. What I got was proper home made chips and a curry Pot Noodle served on a plate, with the chips swimming in the Pot Noodle gravy. I instantly fell in love with it! Girl Gone London’s latest video on American Exaggeration and British Understatement goes some way to explaining the cultural differences as to why our ads are like they are - the short version is “we don’t like being sold to.”

My cupboard right now has about 15 pots in it lol. Hungry but cant be bothered cooking it fills the until you can be bothered. 1 or 2 of these flavours I've never seen, I'm guessing limited edition or didn't sell well as there not on my shopping apps.

Look up the Boddington's beer adverts - they were brilliant as well 😂

They were brilliant. However, Anheuser-Busch InBev bought them, and closed the Manchester Boddington's brewery. 😞

@@gbulmer True and it was pretty devastating. I live nearby (Bolton) and was as outraged as everybody else. Alas I am a middle age onset coeliac (gluten free - I have one gene alele) so can no longer drink beer (wine and cider are OK though 😊 ).

There’s some great comedians in these ads - Mark Watson, Jared Christmas, Kiell Smith-Bynoe (who is in the original Ghosts)
