Gentlemen, please.................We DO NOT have silent r's. The letter 'R' is just not accentuated especially when accompanied with the letter 'N'. For example, the town of Cairns might sound like 'Cans" but if you listen carefully to an Aussie you can hear the 'R sound but the 'N' is slightly more prominent. Same with Melbourne. It can sound like Mel-bun, but if you listen carefully you can hear the subtle 'R'. Another example is the city of Hobart, which is pronounced HO-BART, the same as anywhere else in the world. There is no 'N' in the name. Perth is just Perth, the same as anywhere in the world. A Quay is a common English word for a dock or a wharf. It is pronounced universally as "KEY". Australia is the 3rd largest wine exporter behind France and Spain and the reason its known for high quality is we don't have the competition killing protectionist laws that France has where farmers in various regions of France are basically locked into what wine varieties they are allowed to make, along with a very strict ranking system with very little mobility within it. Thus our wine makers are able to experiment allot more and be recognized for it.

Just say Perth like you say "Earth"! 😆 Fremantle = Free-man-tl. Western Australian wines are very good, but South Australian wines are better (disclosure: I'm slightly biased) and world-renowned. When you get your Vegemite, remember it's not peanut butter or Nutella. It most commonly goes on buttered toast, spread very thinly. Vegemite, a concentrated brewer's yeast extract with flavours and spices, is a bit of an acquired taste. It's a rich vitamin B source and became famous during World War 2 when Australia shipped large quantities of it to the fighting troops for its nutritional value. It became strictly rationed for the civilian population, which increased the demand after the war.

Perth is WAY better. Yes it gets HOT here but it also can get cold. We don't get snow but.... there's a place down south called Bluff Knoll that occassionally does get a little snow. *Oh and when you do try the Vegemite... for the love of god LESS IS MORE. Just a light smear on fresh bread with butter or toast with butter. Licking it straight off a knife or spoon is for fools.

Do you two understand the rules of English, your own language?Australia has the same language, and no, we don’t have silent “R” in most words. We just don’t emphasise it. In Cairns, the middle sound is pronounced as “air”, precisely because of the R. Perth, the “er” sound is pronounced exactly as you would expect, so Perth rhymes with Earth.
