In Europe our clubs are over 100 years old. My grandads grandad supported my club, I would die for it. Fans meet up before games for fights to see which area is superior. America doesn't have it because your clubs are owned by companies and its all franchised. Our clubs represent our entire city

Yeah, but the football is worse. If you want atmosphere then go to Serbia, Turkey, Poland etc. If you want good football go to PL or la liga. Germany is bang in the middle, okay atmosphere and okay football.
@tbn.z9002 ай бұрын
@@masterbeethoven8209 if you say the atmosphere in germany is middle, you never been to a german stadium before. and if the football is so middle, why does german teams regulary win international trophies even with the 50+1 rule. if german clubs would sell their souls like english, they probably win every time.
@masterbeethoven82092 ай бұрын
@@tbn.z900 I actually have, me and my mates do the 'away day' weekends. Every 2 weeks we go to a new country and watch football from a different league. We've done every country in Europe apart from 5. We've been to Germany twice. Don't get me wrong, German football is good, the fans are good, the stadiums are good. But my point was, if you're looking for atmosphere - there's way more insane places to go to - and if you're looking purely for quality then the PL or La liga is where to go. If you disagree, fine. I'm just putting my perspective out there.
@tbn.z9002 ай бұрын
@@masterbeethoven8209 I agree with you but not completely. The atmosphere in certain countries might be better on some big clubs. For example turkey. In the Istanbul clubs for example they are great, but then you have all other clubs which are dead atmospheres. Croatia or Greece the same. In Germany besides small town clubs the atmosphere is way better compared to “normal” clubs from other countries. And yes the football in the PL might be better but that’s only the reason of the money.

Most European clubs are over 100 years old. The oldest are around 150. They were simply integrated into the culture and everyday life. What is not said, but each match is a continuation of previous antagonisms, conflicts, and wars. For example, a Turkish-Greek match, whether at the national team level or between club teams, is actually a battle that is not fought with weapons. But it could be listed, English-French; Polish-German; etc. Which is still incomprehensible to you, because it doesn't really exist in the United States when a city has two teams. The city rivals. They are actually wars, between 'one half and the other half' of the relevant city. (Liverpool - Everton, Roma - Lazio, Ac Milan - Internazionale, Torino - Juventus, and many more could be listed.) You also marveled at the riot police. I know of a city rally where the army also helped with law enforcement.

"Is this about sports or war?". That's actually a good question. Football is actually a way to release a lot of tribal tensions without a war happening. It's like a safety release valve, although it's normally done by city rather than country.

4:40 In Europe Ultras are tied to a club and clubs are tied to a place. Treating a club like franchise and moving it across the country is tantamount to sacrilege in Europe. That happened with Wimbledon FC when they moved to Milton keys and were rebranded as MK Dons. Old Wimbledon fans started a brand new Club (AFC Wimbledon) and now both clubs compete at the same level

In America maybe they would try to arrest people like that but in five minutes a civil war would break out. In Europe if these people exaggerate they are arrested after they return home, no policeman who wants to see his family again would try to arrest them at the stadium. It is difficult to understand this phenomenon if you do not know European history well. We have beheaded many kings over the centuries and because of this we are not exactly as intimidated by authority as we are in the United States.

Fußball is “war by other means”. The USA has never understood what Fußball is, where it comes from and what it stands for. In the USA everything is commercialized. For very few Europeans, this matters. As you rightly said, fathers and grandfathers are often fans of the club. You have to know the history of Europe to know where the rivalry and hatred come from. War was waged almost continuously in Europe. This war will continue, just without armed forces. Between nations and also between “fans” of the same country. As I said, you can't just copy something and that it is then identical. Nobody wants USA-branded Fußball. Fußball has existed in Europe for several decades.

Nice to see some Ultras from "my" Club at 5:19 and 8:29 ;) But this video is missleading. Its not like the stadions literally get burned down (I wish ours would finally burn down so the city is finally forced to buil a new one ;) every match. Most of the time absolutely nothing happens. Oh and we have played (and will again this year in the CL) against a lot of this clubs that are shown this vid. And suprise suprise no dead people nor burned to the ground stadions. Sometimes it can escalate a little bit but its definitelly not normal that this happens. It also depends a lot on rivalties between different clubs. If you play your arch enemy its more likely that something happens (but you don´t play very often against this clubs) Oh and there exist tausends of football clubs in europe.

Stefan from ["Borussia"] Dortmund, Germany. i'm a Football fan at all, aged 53 and got some experiences with it ... and sometimes I really feel ashamed about watching the cruel sequences ... an "Ultra" is not automatically a "Hooligan". Of course fromout your point of view [it's from another continent which git nothing to do with this sport] it's not imaginable ... in some areas of Europe there are more "NAZIs" than in Germany - believe me. Why? They combine their "Proud of their nation" with a football club ... stupid !!! BUT only for example: until yesterday we host the UEFA Nation's Cup ... I think, it worked ... guys from England, Scotland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland told me so. In my hometown [600,000 inhabitants with a stadium of 80,000+ and football relationship at all] there was at least the semi-final between Netherlands and England ... we were "invaded" by round about 100,000 Englishmen + 250,000 Dutch guys ... everything was definetely okay! Anybody is welcome, if he / they behave more or less correctly. When I travel to another nation I have to behave too! "Tschüss", Stefan from Germany

If you want to see this stay away from the premier league go to mainland European games. The premier league has become more and more commercialised and is becoming closer and closer to American sports. The more money, the more they push working class away from the game. It was the working classes game but is been stripped away by greed. If you do come to the UK and want to watch a game with true hatred, stay away from the ones your mentioned, they dont have real hatred (there fans will pop up here saying they do - they dont). Millwall v West Ham, Villa vs Birmingham, Nott County vs Forest etc. The ones mentioned are just commerciased nonsense. If it doesnt have to be played on Sundays at 12pm it isnt a derby. The only UK derby close to this would he Rangers v Celtic in Scotland but it still isnt close. Im not an expert for European ones but as a guess, Greek local derbies, Turkish local derbys particularly around Istanbul, Croatian, Serbian, in Italy (Milan v Inter, Rome v Lazio or Napoli vs any of them) and then into Eastern Europe. I think Morocco has a growing Ultras scene. Ill argue my, unfortunate, point about English support to death but I could well be wrong on some of the European comments.
