​@@baussifyI'm curious, why did you think that? PB&J is a well known combination here, I was alive in the 90's and it was a common thing to eat even back then. There are people here who don't like peanut butter in a sandwich at all because it's so dry, but I think that's the only aversion British people have to PB&J. It's mainly something that only kids eat here too, most adults probably wouldn't choose it over any other sandwich tbh.

I think the problem at the Indian restaurant is that it was serving proper Indian food as opposed to the Indian food that British people eat which is based on Indian food but different.

It was more that it was a different style/type of Indian food. Balti style Indian food is my preference, and is more widely available in most of the UK. It's where you are more likely to find a Madras, along with others both well known and less known, and although it will have some of the British origin food the Indian origin food there is no less "proper" Indian food. Also a particularly big issue, most of the dishes like Madras are not vegetarian and the restaurant they went to is vegetarian as far as I know.

The perception about USA food is the poor quality and how artificial it is. That peanut butter/European products in general is probably pure 100% peanut butter. USA will add 10 different artificial and flavourings into the same thing, on top of extra salt and corn sugar. It's not that its just fatty and salty, its literally so artificial its insane (I spent a year out there - something simple to us like pure juice is almost non-existent) EDIT: just checked the USA peanut butter ingredients are SO unnecessary 😂

you must also remember that most places has many of these ingredients that the american version has, but in america they have to label every chemical compound and ingredient on every package and food product. the perception by many both inside and outside of america is that: "oh america has a lot more crap in their food than anywhere else" but in reality, all places have much the same crap, it's just that they don't list literally everything they are made out of, because they aren't required to.

@@CursedAnqxl @wesandsteph6460 Literally untrue. EU legislation is so much stricter than the FDA when it comes to additives. Watch any of the UK vs USA series or read the actual laws. Don't get me wrong the UK/EU isn't exactly 'healthy', but its hard to find anything that suggests the USA is in any way better. Half my family are in USA and anyone who's spent a long time in both places would probably agree. As for the higher quality items, USA premium is probably better than the EU equivalents (for whatever I've personally indulged in anyway). For the junk food/snacks/average items there's no debate.

In the UK we have peanut butter and mint choc chip and we like both, we eat peanut butter on toast and have mint choc chip ice cream However our peanut butter is different to your guys as ours is more salty and savoury and not sweet.

I don't know about London, but where I live, you can't just ring up a store to find stock. There is a number for the store, but it's the customer service number, not the specific store. Some stores you can check the website to see if it's in stock, but it's so much hassle to ring a store direct. I tried once before and was passed through about 4 different people and was on hold for 35 mins and they still couldn't help.

Surströmming isn't actually bad. The smell is horrific, but it's really nothing more than super salty, it's just that you're psychologically telling yourself that it tastes as bad as it smells lol. We usually eat it during midsommar together with schnapps, quite nice

To extend the taste thing, there are actually 8 senses we look into. You can be hypo or hyper sensitive to all these, and it can be all the time or sometimes, and the environment can make people switch from hypo to hyper sensitive. Working with autistic adults, I have to be very mindful of this as these sensitivities can be extreme and drastically reduce quality of life. I know a guy who needs to eat really spicy foods so he can even taste anything, whereas another guy needs to eat very bland food, something as simple as bread can taste overwhelmingly sweet. If you want to learn more about the research and development around our senses, you should check out a local autism charity, and they will study this topic as part of their jobs so can be useful resources

Fermented herring or fish in general is actually a traditional dish in Egypt! We usually eat it on Easter! It's actually pretty nice once you get over the smell and get used to the salty taste 😅 you can also cook it or put it in salads

Jellied eels are akin to natto. There are people that liked it or hated it, but after trying it several times it grew on you. But unlike natto (which became a stapple food for me), jellied eels are still in the range of 'okay'. I'd obviously preferred another food, but I'd crave for jellied eels from time to time. Sucks they don't have it in my current country.

Wes you've heard Gherkin before because there's a big building in the UK that's in the shape of a big pickle/gherkin and everyone calls it The Gherkin, the boys have mentioned it a few times in videos. (Google it, it actually looks pretty cool.) Also gherkin is a dutch word that means "small pickled cucumber". Idk why but gherkin and pickle is used interchangeably here.
