I prefer Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut over the chocolate only bar. Same great taste as the chocolate only but with almond nuts and raisins mixed in. I’ve never liked Turkish Delight either nor Prawn Cocktail flavour Crisps. A personal preference only. Try Cheese and Onion, Smokey Bacon, Pickled Onion or other flavours. I’d also try those flavours from other companies. Walker’s Cheese & Onion tastes different to Golden Wonder’s version. The chocolate only Wagon Wheels were the original version. I do prefer the jammie ones myself.

American chocolate contains Butyric Acid which is also found in vomit, hence why they have a similar taste. Also, I read somewhere that American chocolate, in particular Hersheys, has such a low cocoa solid percentage (I believe it's about 10%) that it wouldn't be classed as chocolate if it was made in the UK, but rather chocolate flavoured candy.
@aquietgirlcalledsoph7394 жыл бұрын
That’s because there’s an acid in the chocolate called Butyric acid which is also naturally present in the gut and the Butyric acid is the cause of the smell or taste of vomit. That’s what’s in a Hershey’s bar.

Fun fact! The blue smarties were removed from the packets in 2006, due to an additive in the blue sugar coating that couldn’t be sourced naturally (whereas a natural flavour could for the other sweets in the tube could be). Blue smarties were reintroduced in 2008 this time they used spirulina. 😊
@frankbrown47804 жыл бұрын
I was 4 years old when they brought out the blue Smartie. At the time there was a worry that it contained too many E numbers. Us kids thought that the E stood for ecstasy, the class A drug, so we wandered round the playground pretending we were off our heads. I came to the conclusion, in my 4 year old mind, that the reason they put ecstasy in the new blue Smartie, was to hide the flavour (us kids would've noticed the difference if they added it to any of the other Smarties)

Walkers is now a PepsiCo subsidiary. They also own the Smiths brand: the one that is dearest to our old folks' hearts, because Frank Smith invented the crisp as a pub snack. He toured pubs selling them, and had blue salt cellars to hand out to season the crisps. Unfortunately, they were nicked, so he put his crisps in bags that contained a small blue paper packet of salt. You put the salt in the bag, then shook it. There are now many other brands of crisps, the greatest of which is Seabrook's, available mostly in Yorkshire. They are the best.

We looked it up after the video and apparently they never had wine in them. The guy who invented them was Methodist and so didn't believe in consuming alcohol. Wine Gums were marketed as an alternative to actual wine 😂
@brianwhittington50864 жыл бұрын
Years ago, I remember they had a better wine flavour than today's offering. Like most things, the recipe changes by brand or over time, and not always for the better. Jelly Babies are one example, they all seem very bland tasting now as the flavourings have altered, due to food colour / flavour restrictions.☹
@benlee84364 жыл бұрын
@@WanderingRavens That's the one! They have never tasted like wine, however I always thought that was what wine tasted like as a kid. It took a long time for me to twig as an adult that they were actually just fruit flavoured! There was a fun moment in Doctor Who in which the Doctor tried wine only to spit it out in disgust and say, 'I thought'd it'd be like the gums!' I still like them a lot though.

@Ann-Marie Lucas. Remember there was a lot of controversy many years ago about the danger some additives that colour and flavour food and drink caused. It was all to do with certain " E numbers ", some were banned or restricted in their use and from memory, it concerned some reds and yellows. Research said they could cause behaviour changes in some people and also links to health problems. I don't think real alcohol was actually used before in wine gums, just flavouring additives. The substitute artificial additives or natural flavours and colours probably made noticeable differences to many foods and drinks at that time.

As soon as I saw the twiglets on the table I thought "They won't like them" as I've yet to meet anyone from the US or Canada who does. As with Marmite, I think it's something you have to be brought up on. Personally I think Galaxy make a better chocolate bar than Dairy Milk although I'd happily eat either. Wagon Wheels are much smaller than they used to be (no doubt due to sugar content) When I was a kid they were huge and the playground dare always used to be "can you fit a whole one in your mouth?" This game was eventually banned in our school when a boy got one stuck in his mouth, started choking and had to be taken to the school nurse. It's over 40 years ago but I can still remember the sight of that kid being led away with this huge biscuit stuck in his mouth & tears streaming down his face! Walkers are the kings of the crisp world, they've been around for about 100 years I think. As you have probably sussed by now the British are very keen on their crisps - everyone has their own personal Walkers favourite flavour (except my dad who would only ever eat ready salted or salt & shake) but there is no such thing as a bad Walkers crisp.
