I prefer Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut over the chocolate only bar. Same great taste as the chocolate only but with almond nuts and raisins mixed in. I’ve never liked Turkish Delight either nor Prawn Cocktail flavour Crisps. A personal preference only. Try Cheese and Onion, Smokey Bacon, Pickled Onion or other flavours. I’d also try those flavours from other companies. Walker’s Cheese & Onion tastes different to Golden Wonder’s version. The chocolate only Wagon Wheels were the original version. I do prefer the jammie ones myself.

Its funny how you call loads of these snacks the British version, when the British is the original. For example, Lay's is a rebranded Walkers - lays started to sell elsewhere but it kept the name Walkers in the UK cause that's where it came from and its what we were used to.

American chocolate contains Butyric Acid which is also found in vomit, hence why they have a similar taste. Also, I read somewhere that American chocolate, in particular Hersheys, has such a low cocoa solid percentage (I believe it's about 10%) that it wouldn't be classed as chocolate if it was made in the UK, but rather chocolate flavoured candy.
@aquietgirlcalledsoph739
@aquietgirlcalledsoph739 4 жыл бұрын
That’s because there’s an acid in the chocolate called Butyric acid which is also naturally present in the gut and the Butyric acid is the cause of the smell or taste of vomit. That’s what’s in a Hershey’s bar.

Follow up your taste for orange chocolate with a 'Terry's Chocolate Orange', very British and unusual, but not as unusual as that Turkish Delight ! Other bars to try would be a Galaxy chocolate bar and compare it to Cadbury's. Cadbury's Fruit & Nut is also a traditional favourite and I know you have something similar in the U.S. but the Mars bar is almost a staple food over here too. Biscuits, Hobnobs, digestives' oaty cousins.

Wagon Wheels used to be bigger and thicker way back in the 1970s and early 80s. They got shrunk to its current size back in the 80s. They deny it but if you compare the wrapper of one from 40 years ago with a current one you can clearly tell there is a difference in size. I prefer the ones without the jam in them.

Fun fact! The blue smarties were removed from the packets in 2006, due to an additive in the blue sugar coating that couldn’t be sourced naturally (whereas a natural flavour could for the other sweets in the tube could be). Blue smarties were reintroduced in 2008 this time they used spirulina. 😊

I was 4 years old when they brought out the blue Smartie. At the time there was a worry that it contained too many E numbers. Us kids thought that the E stood for ecstasy, the class A drug, so we wandered round the playground pretending we were off our heads. I came to the conclusion, in my 4 year old mind, that the reason they put ecstasy in the new blue Smartie, was to hide the flavour (us kids would've noticed the difference if they added it to any of the other Smarties)

Walkers is now a PepsiCo subsidiary. They also own the Smiths brand: the one that is dearest to our old folks' hearts, because Frank Smith invented the crisp as a pub snack. He toured pubs selling them, and had blue salt cellars to hand out to season the crisps. Unfortunately, they were nicked, so he put his crisps in bags that contained a small blue paper packet of salt. You put the salt in the bag, then shook it. There are now many other brands of crisps, the greatest of which is Seabrook's, available mostly in Yorkshire. They are the best.

One thing the many “taste test” videos does show is that whilst the general concencus seems to be that UK chocolate is better quality than US chocolate, it must be much sweeter. I see many times an American will take a piece of our chocolate and immediately say they couldnt eat the whole bar as they would be bouncing off the walks from the sugar rush. Where as over here, we just open it up and eat the lot without even thinking 😂😂

As an Aussie who moved to the UK, I’d have to agree. Your chocolate is very very sweet, especially Galaxy - I struggled to get through a whole bar of that! And your Cadbury is definitely sweeter than Aussie Cadbury but I know the ingredients are slightly different. However Aussie chocolate does not have any vomit-flavoured chemicals in it and is arguably just as smooth and rich as UK chocolate. We also have Lindt and Green and Blacks as well so I was glad I could find those easily over here.

@Ann-Marie Lucas. Remember there was a lot of controversy many years ago about the danger some additives that colour and flavour food and drink caused. It was all to do with certain " E numbers ", some were banned or restricted in their use and from memory, it concerned some reds and yellows. Research said they could cause behaviour changes in some people and also links to health problems. I don't think real alcohol was actually used before in wine gums, just flavouring additives. The substitute artificial additives or natural flavours and colours probably made noticeable differences to many foods and drinks at that time.

As soon as I saw the twiglets on the table I thought "They won't like them" as I've yet to meet anyone from the US or Canada who does. As with Marmite, I think it's something you have to be brought up on. Personally I think Galaxy make a better chocolate bar than Dairy Milk although I'd happily eat either. Wagon Wheels are much smaller than they used to be (no doubt due to sugar content) When I was a kid they were huge and the playground dare always used to be "can you fit a whole one in your mouth?" This game was eventually banned in our school when a boy got one stuck in his mouth, started choking and had to be taken to the school nurse. It's over 40 years ago but I can still remember the sight of that kid being led away with this huge biscuit stuck in his mouth & tears streaming down his face! Walkers are the kings of the crisp world, they've been around for about 100 years I think. As you have probably sussed by now the British are very keen on their crisps - everyone has their own personal Walkers favourite flavour (except my dad who would only ever eat ready salted or salt & shake) but there is no such thing as a bad Walkers crisp.

Percy Pigs are iconic, but they aren’t really a chewy gummy like the wine gums.

@@WanderingRavens But not with chocolate on. For me, the chocolate Digestives totally obliterate the taste of the tea. They're nice enough on their own, though, even if I prefer the more savoury taste of original Digestives.
